Driving on public roads
For driving on public roads, the specific road traffic regulations applicable in the country of use must be observed. Our service department will be pleased to answer any queries in this respect.
Take the following steps before driving on public roads: • Clean the machine to remove dirt. • Lock the articulated joint. • Check the brakes, steering, tyres and the lighting system. • Switch off the floodlamps. • Lower the splash-guards on the front wheels (Fig. 1). • Bring the blade into the driving position (Fig. 2) such that the blade does not protrude over the dotted line. For the purpose of easier adjustment, marking lines (1, Fig. 2) have been put on the slewing ring and on the blade. • For driving on public roads, the brake-pressuredependent gearbox cutout function must be off (see section “Brake-pressure-dependent gearbox cutout function”).
Fig. 2 • Check the wheel lean hydraulic cylinder for proper operation. For checking, move the control lever (72, Fig. 3) several times from limit stop to limit stop.

• With front grading blade attached: - Raise the front grading blade with the control lever (71, position 10) until the grading blade position pointer (Fig. 4) is in alignment with the yellow road travel marking. - Set the shutoff valve for the dozer cylinder to position B (Fig. 5). With the rear ripper (1, Fig. 6) attached: bring the teeth (6) into transport position. Lower the teeth protection (2) down on the end of the teeth. - Move the rear ripper up against the limit stop using the control lever (64, Fig. 7).

Set the lever (4, Fig. 8) on ripper cylinder (5) to position “B” in order to secure the rear ripper against inadvertent movements. Block all functions of the working equipment. To do so, turn the two locking knobs (60 and 78, Fig. 9) in the opposite direction. Check that the control levers are locked up.

Before putting the machine into operation
40001378.00-en
Before putting the machine into operation, the following checks must be performed: 1. Check the level of all fluids in the machine (engine oil, hydraulic fluid and coolant) and make sure all oils and coolants are suited to the respective operating conditions. 2. Carry out the daily servicing tasks. 3. Inspect the machine, looking for signs of possible leaks and check the hoses. Retighten and replace, if needed. 4. Observe the instructions in “Run-in period” if the machine is new or has been overhauled. 5. Check the tyres for visible damage. Replace or repair as needed. Check the tyre inflation pressure and correct, if necessary. 6. Clean the steps and handrails. Grease, oil, mud or ice (in winter) on the steps and handrails may cause accidents. Make sure that steps and handrails are always clean. 7. Clean the stickers and replace those that have become illegible. 8. Make sure that the engine access panels and all doors are duly closed and locked up. 9. Secure the cab door in completely closed or open position. 10. Remove all obstacles which might reduce your field of vision. Clean the windscreen, the windows and the rear-view mirrors. 11. Make sure no tools or other objects have been left behind on the machine or in the cab. 12. Make sure nobody is under or on the machine.
Only the driver is allowed to stay on the machine. 13. Make sure no other persons are within the working range of the machine. 14. Familiarize yourself with the safety measures applied at the place of work. 15. Establish an escape route from the machine (emergency exit through the 2nd door, the hinged windows) in case a cab door is blocked or the machine topples over. 16. Before driving or working in the dark, make sure all lighting and signalling systems are fully operational.
WARNING: Check the machine before each new phase of operation for proper functioning of the steering, brakes, hydraulic control elements, instruments and protective devices. Check that the gearshift lever is in NEUTRAL position. A properly functioning machine helps prevent accidents. Make all necessary repairs and adjustments before putting the machine back into operation. Noncompliance can lead to severe or fatal injuries.
17. Adjust the seat so that you can use the brake pedal without having to move your back off the backrest. 18. Put on the seatbelt and adjust it. 19. Check whether all the instruments on the control panel work properly while the engine is running and after operating temperature has been reached. 20. Check whether the grader control elements are operating perfectly.
