Bleeding the fuel system
40001387.00-en
High-pressure fuel system After removal or replacement of the high-pressure fuel lines it is not necessary to perform external bleeding in order to start the engine. The fuel pump produces a high fuel pressure during starting and discharges the air at the highpressure side through the injection nozzles.
The fuel hose (6) must be resistant to fuels and transparent.
Check all lines and connections and the fuel filter assembly for leaks.
Procedure: Turn the electrical system key switch to position I but do not start the engine. The electrical fuel pump now runs for about 30 seconds and vents the system (the running noise of the pump can be heard). After this, start the engine. If the engine does not start then turn the keyswitch back to position 0 for about 30 seconds. During this time the engine electronics performs a reset. Then repeat the venting procedure. If the engine now starts then the system has been vented.

Read and observe: “Fuel system, safety instructions” Designation After repairs on the fuel system or after cleaning of the fuel tank, the system must be bled. Procedure: 1. Slide the hose (6, Fig. 1) over bleeding valve (3). 2. Insert bleeding hose (6) into a collecting receptacle (7). 3. Open bleeding valve (3) with an open-end spanner (turning counter-clockwise). 4. Press button (2) of the hand pump repeatedly until there are no more air bubbles to be seen in the hose (6). 5. Close bleeding valve (3) with an open-end spanner (turning clockwise). 6. Withdraw hose (6) with collecting recipient (7) from bleeding valve (3) and dispose of the collected fuel in compliance with state-of-theart techniques in closed containers.
