Diplomové výstavy a katalogy jsou specifický žánr světa umění.

Studující a kurátoři*kurátorky musí každý rok znovu přehodnocovat smysluplnost tohoto formátu. Střídají se přístupy více invazivní (kurátoři*kurátorky upravují práce studujících, pro vyšší působivost výstavy jako celku) s přístupy, které nechávají vyznít různost a specifičnost jednotlivých děl a oborů, ovšem s rizikem nekonzistentního výsledku. Prezentace FaVU VUT je ještě specifičtější v tom, že souběžně prezentuje výstupy volného i užitého umění.

Pro letošní ročník jsme se jako oslovený kurátorský tým rozhodli tento formát definovat jako službu. Službu vedoucí k nenápadnému, přesto z našeho pohledu důležitému výsledku. Díla neremixujeme, nepřicházíme s okázalou architekturou ani se vše nesnažíme zabalit do formy uhrančivého vtipu či komunitního gesta. Nahlížíme na výstavu a katalog velmi utilitárně a hledáme praktické výstupy – nástroje, které mohou studujícím sloužit po opuštění alma mater. Ústředním bodem této méně viditelné služby bylo oslovení deseti vybraných teoretiček, historiků a kurátorek (Anežka Chalupová, Veronika Čechová, Eva Drexlerová, František Fekete, Jiří Havlíček, Natálie Kubíková, Jiří Sirůček, Martina Růžičková, Tea Záchová) k sepsání textů s velmi jasným zadáním. Chtěli jsme, aby texty měly co nejpodobnější strukturu. Nemělo by se jednat o filozofii, poezii či autorskou interpretaci díla, ale o věcný popis toho, s jakým médiem a tématem studující pracují a zda již u nich můžeme pozorovat nějakou specifickou pracovní metodu. Může se zdát, že podobný druh psaní redukuje autory*autorky na pouhý výrobní štítek, ale ve skutečnosti pomáhá v orientaci, přímo a srozumitelně popisuje základní vlastnosti díla, což dokumentace často nedokáže. Může to znít jako maličkost, ale osobně jsme se k podobným textům dostali až po letech praxe a jednoznačně by nám po dokončení studia pomohly, třeba v přihláškách na nejrůznější granty či umělecké opencally.

Věříme také, že současní umělci*současné umělkyně nejsou skupina odsunutých géniů, kteří tvoří do šuplíku a čekají na posmrtné objevení, ale jsou to osobnosti, které jsou součástí živé oborové diskuse a dokážou své myšlenky komunikovat, ustanovovat nová témata a diskusi aktivně tvořit. Proto jsme jako další službu zvolili pozvání vybraných kurátorek*kurátorů, se kterými se studující seznámí během zahájení výstavy (Mirela Baciak, Thomas Conchou, Tjaša Pogačar).

Na začátku roku jsme se sešli se všemi studujícími, abychom jim vysvětlili, jak si představujeme realizaci projektu. Řekli jsme jim také, že tento proces může také být bolestivý nebo komplikovaný, stejně jako je samotný život, že každá výstava i každý katalog jsou určitým druhem zkoušky, s jejímž výsledkem je člověk málokdy spokojen. Nakonec je toto první střetnutí asi takové, jaké je právě teď, směsí emocí, úhlů pohledu, štěstí a strachu, nadšení a nepochopení, důvěry a pochybností, šepotu a přízraků.

Všichni, kteří se na této zkušenosti podíleli, do ní vložili vše, co v tu chvíli mohli. Spolupráce se 40 lidmi nikdy není dlouhá a klidná řeka, ale jedno je jisté – alespoň jednou v životě jsme to zvládli. Alespoň pro tento jediný den jsme společně vytvořili něco, co teď máte v rukou a před očima. To něco není bezvýznamné, protože znamená čas, společné bytí, konec, ale hlavně začátek života po studiu.

Diploma exhibitions and catalogues are a specific genre in the art world. Every year students and curators have to re-evaluate the meaningfulness of this format. They alternate between more invasive approaches (the curators modify the students’ works to increase the impact of the exhibition as a whole) and approaches that allow for the diversity and specificity of individual works and disciplines, but at the risk of inconsistent results. The presentation of the FFA BUT is even more specific in that it simultaneously presents the output of both free and applied art.

This year, as the curators, we decided to define this format as a service. A service leading to an inconspicuous yet, from our point of view, important result. We do not remix the works, we do not come up with spectacular architecture, nor do we try to pack everything into the form of a charming joke or a community gesture.

We look at the exhibition and the catalogue in a very utilitarian way, seeking practical outputs—tools that can serve students after they leave their alma mater. The central point of this less visible service was to address ten selected theorists, art historians, and curators (Anežka Chalupová, Veronika Čechová, Eva Drexlerová, František Fekete, Jiří Havlíček, Natálie Kubíková, Jiří Sirůček, Martina Růžičková, Tea Záchová). As for the texts, they were assigned a very clear task.

We want all the authors’ texts to be as similar in structure as possible. They should not be philosophical or poetic or the author’s interpretation of their work, but a factual description of the medium and subject they are working with and whether a specific working method can already be observed. It may seem that this kind of writing reduces the authors to mere production labels, but in fact it helps in orientation, by describing the essential characteristics of the work in a direct and comprehensible way that documentation often fails to achieve. It may not sound important, but we only came to such texts after years of practice, and they would have clearly helped us in our applications for various grants or art open calls after our graduation.

We also believe that contemporary artists are not a group of marginalised geniuses who are working just for themselves and are waiting to be discovered only after their death. They are personalities who are part of a lively professional debate and they can communicate their ideas, establish new topics and actively shape discussions.

Therefore, as an additional service, we have decided to invite the selected curators who the students would meet during the opening of the exhibition (Mirela Baciak, Thomas Conchou, Tjaša Pogačar).

At the beginning of the year we met with all the students to explain how we imagined the project would be implemented.

We also told them that this process could be painful or complicated, that this was life, that every exhibition, every catalogue was a kind of test that one was rarely satisfied with. In the end, this first encounter is probably as it is now; a mixture of emotions, points of view, happiness and fear, excitement and misunderstanding, trust and doubt, whispers and ghosts.

All the people involved in this experience gave what they could when they could. A project with 40 people is never a long and calm river, but one thing is for sure; we have done it at least once in our lives. That one day we will together make something that is now in your hands and in front of your eyes, and that something is not insignificant, because it means time, being together, the end, but most importantly, the beginning of life after school.

Jan Bražina Jan Bražina (* 1997) pracuje s hmotou a prostorem, kromě tradičních materiálů používá zejména textil a nalezené oblečení, které dále upravuje. Jeho práce spočívá v úpravě materiálu spolu s hledáním vztahovosti a významu, které se promítají do instalací. Ty mají často scénografickou podobu, do níž diváctvo vstupuje a stává se její součástí, zároveň je v nich však důležitý detail a formální řemeslné zpracování. Jeho díla zahrnují také médium videa a performance.

Bražina zpracovává téma vztahovosti těla a skrze kůži jeho nejbližších vrstev, oblečení či kostýmu. Tělo a jeho vrstvy v jeho pracích fungují jako ukazatelé vzájemnosti, emocí a symbolů.

Vychází z osobní introspekce, vzpomínek a vlastního pozorování mezilidských vztahů. Oblečení a kostým jsou pro Bražinu nástroji komunikace a vynalézáním proměnlivé identity, jeho končetiny a fragmenty morfují do dalších organických struktur a prostorových vztahů. Jeho tvorba může být označena jako queer nejen na základě osobní zkušenosti, ale i proto, že tělo a lidský subjekt chápe mimo normativní kategorie, vznikající z vědomé provázanosti se světem fungujícím mimo binaritu. V rámci výstavy diplomových prací prezentuje své závěrečné dílo love rhymes with fuck you (2023).

Jan Bražina je absolventem Ateliéru sochařství 2 FaVU VUT v Brně. Absolvoval několik stáží, vyjma dalších ateliérů na FaVU (Ateliér video) také v ateliéru Sochy a K.O.V. na pražské UMPRUM. Účastnil se několika samostatných i skupinových výstav v zahraničí, například v Lipsku (galerie KUB), Praze (galerie Jednadvatři) či v Bukurešti. Kromě toho se podílel na mnoha dalších kolaborativních projektech na poli performance, scénografie a jiných mezioborových projektech. Absolvoval umělecké rezidence v Praze, Vídni a jinde.

František Fekete

Jan Bražina (* 1997) is a sculptor who works with matter and space, using traditional materials in addition to textiles and found clothing which he further modifies. His work consists of modifying the material and searching for relationality and meaning, which is reflected in his installations. These often take a scenographic form that the viewer enters and becomes part of, while detail and formal craftsmanship are also important. His works include the media of video and performance.

Bražina works with the theme of the relationality of the body through the skin, its closest layers, clothing and costume. In his works the body and its layers function as pointers to reciprocity, emotions and symbols. He draws on personal introspection, family stories and his own observations of interpersonal relationships.

Clothing is a tool for communicating and reinventing shifting identities; its limbs and fragments morphing into other organic structures and spatial relationships. His work can be labelled queer, not only on the basis of personal experience, but also because he understands the body and the human subject outside normative categories, arising from a conscious interconnectedness with a world operating outside the binary. Bražina presents his final work love rhymes with fuck you (2023) as part of his diploma exhibition.

Jan Bražina graduated from Sculpture Studio 2 at the FFA BUT. He has completed several internships, in other studios at the FFA BUT (Video Studio), in the Studio of Sculpture and K.O.V. at UMPRUM in Prague. He has participated in several solo and group exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad, for example in Leipzig (KUB Gallery), Prague (Jednadvatři Gallery) and Bucharest. In addition, he has participated in many collaborative projects in the fields of performance and scenography, along with other interdisciplinary projects. He has completed several artist fellowships in such locations as Prague and Vienna.

Drahomíra Dubinská Stěžejním vyjadřovacím prostředkem Dady Dubinské (* 1998) je ilustrace a malba. Ve svých obrazech zasazuje figury nebo objekty jako nositele sdělení do rozostřené atmosféry jemných tónů. Tato pocitová efemérnost změkčuje často závažné problémy naší společnosti, které jsou pro Dubinskou tematickým základem. Jejími klíčovými okruhy zájmu jsou technologie a jejich dopad na lidstvo nebo jedince a ambivalence utopického a dystopického obrazu budoucnosti s částečným využitím environmentální etiky. Ve své interpretaci daných prostředí a skutečností využívá imaginaci a nadsázku.

Diplomová práce Kontrasty dohľadu (2023) odráží její dlouhodobý zájem o reflexi pronikání technologií do osobního prostoru a živého bytí v kontextu sociálních otázek. Dubinská se v ní věnuje zkoumání konceptů sledování, dozoru a dohledu v souvislosti s moderní technologií. Daný fenomén hromadné kontroly obyvatelstva pomocí kamerových zařízení, její vznik a vývoj zkoumá Dubinská z pohledu surveillance studies, z filozofické, sociální, psychologické a estetické perspektivy. U děl záměrně využívá rozostřenost a estetiku vizuálního obsahu sledujících aparátů, jako je termovizní snímkování, černobílé noční vidění a infračervené vidění. Výsledné malby tak svou vizuální bohatostí odkazují na odlišné formy zobrazení reality. Série obrazů různých formátů a technik (olejomalba, airbrush, akryl na plátně) komunikuje otázky soukromého a veřejného prostoru, zaznamenávání pohybu a tělesnosti jedince nebo formy digitální identity. Plátna zobrazují současné stírání hranic veřejného a soukromého života, jeho narušení v citlivých okamžicích, např. v důsledku hacknutí chytrých zařízení. Autorka záměrně a s ironií vybírala (ne)běžné situace jednotlivců, buď projevy intimity na veřejných prostranstvích, v přírodě, ale i v soukromí vlastních domovů, nebo jiné náhodné a banální situace v sociálním prostředí.

Pomocí těchto podivných snímků reality kriticky poukazuje na stav aktuálních globálních tendencí v přístupu k technologiím, jejichž použití nevyžaduje žádný závazný souhlas aktérů*aktérek.

Naráží na fakt, kdy průběžné automatizované vyhodnocování polohy, mapování pohybu a lidské činnosti se pomalu, ale jistě mění z podoby abstraktních, neškodných databází na elementární předstupeň dystopické představy společnosti řízené umělou inteligencí.

Dada Dubinská absolvovala bakalářské studium na Fakultě umění Technické univerzity v Košicích v Ateliéru současného obrazu u Adama Szentpéteryho. Dokončuje studia v Ateliéru grafiky a experimentální tvorby u Petra Rónaie na téže univerzitě a v Ateliéru malířství 3 na FaVU VUT v Brně u Patricie Fexové a Veroniky Vlkové.

Byla součástí skupinových výstav Pokoje, Praha (2021, 2022) nebo Kontexty mesta 2022: Umelecké intervecie v Prešove, Prešov (2022).

Anežka Chalupová

Dada Dubinská’s (* 1998) main means of expression are illustration and painting. In her paintings she sets figures or objects as carriers of messages in a blurred atmosphere of subtle tones. This emotional ephemerality softens the frequent serious problems of our society that are Dubinská’s thematic basis. Her key areas of interest are technology and its impact on humanity and the individual, and the ambivalence of utopian and dystopian images of the future, with partial use of environmental ethics. She uses imagination and hyperbole in her interpretation of environments and realities.

Dubinská’s thesis entitled Contrasts of Surveillance (2023) shows her long-standing interest in reflecting on the penetration of technology into personal space and living in the context of social issues. In this thesis Dubinská explores the concepts of surveillance, supervision and monitoring in the context of modern technologies.

Dubinská examines the phenomenon of mass control of the population by means of video surveillance devices, particularly its emergence and development. She looks from the perspective of surveillance studies and from philosophical, social, psychological and aesthetic perspectives. In her works she deliberately uses the blurring and aesthetics of the visual content of the surveillance devices, such as thermal imaging, black and white night vision and infrared vision. The resulting paintings with their visual richness thus refer to different means of depicting reality. A series of paintings in various formats and techniques (oil painting, airbrush, acrylic on canvas) address issues relating to private and public space, recording the movement and physicality of the individual and forms of digital identity.

The canvases depict the contemporary blurring of the boundaries between public and private life, and their disruption at sensitive moments, for example, as a result of the hacking of smart devices.

The artist deliberately and ironically chose (un)ordinary situations of individuals, either manifestations of intimacy in public spaces, or in the countryside, but also in the privacy of their own homes, and other random and banal situations in the social environment.

Using these strange snapshots of reality she critically highlights the state of current global trends in the approach to technologies whose use does not require any binding consent from the participants. She alludes to the fact that the continuous automated evaluation of location, and the mapping of movement and human activity are slowly but surely changing from being abstract and innocuous databases to an elementary precursor of a dystopian vision of an AI-driven society.

Dada Dubinská graduated as a Bachelor of Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Technical University in Košice in the Studio of Contemporary Painting under Adam Szentpétery. She is currently completing her studies in the Studio of Graphic and Experimental Design at the same university under the supervision of Peter Rónai and in the Painting Studio 3 at the FFA BUT under the supervision of Patricie Fexová and Veronika Vlková. She was part of the group exhibitions entitled Rooms, Prague (2021, 2022) and Contexts of the City 2022: Artistic Interviews in Prešov, Prešov (2022).

Vojtěch Dvořák Vojtěch Dvořák (* 1998) je malířem a kreslířem, u kterého médium kresby a malby zjevují především jeho intenzivní schopnost komunikovat subjektivní a niterné vidění světa. Přitom využívá nejčastěji velkoformátové olejové malby a menší formáty kreseb, ale také prostorové instalace, objekty či videa. Jeho díla se nedají zařadit striktně mezi abstraktní či figurativní malbu. Jejich náměty totiž vycházejí z prostého autorova vědomí ohledávajícího fenomény skutečnosti. Ty potom základními malířskými strategiemi jako kompozice, barva, tvar a linie převádí do originálních obrazových vizí v pestré paletě. Znovu objevuje svět a zjevuje ho skrze imaginativní subjektivismus. Můžeme v nich nalézt vlivy surrealistického automatismu či expresivního abstrakcionismu, zároveň ale unikají podobným zužujícím charakteristikám a pouhému zařazení do pokračovatelů modernismu se vzpírají i vyloučením jednotného estetického a společenského programu. Jeho autorský přístup naopak materializuje interní logiku obrazu a podněcuje diváckou citlivost. Kompozice nemají přísnou vnitřní geometrii, odvíjejí se jakoby od nahodilého začátku ke konci. Struktura obrazů má někdy až psychedelický charakter, ale náměty a názvy obrazů jako Král mravenců (2021) nebo Kamínek chce bejt Elvis (2020) jsou zároveň vtipné a odlehčené. Spontaneita a hravost čišící z jeho obrazů tak upomíná na art brut, nebo dokonce medijní tvorbu.

Kresby tohoto ražení jsou založeny na výrazné gestičnosti, kdy linka jednotlivé tvary či motivy několikrát obkresluje. Tvary asociují figurativní fragmenty a tváře v imaginativní intuici. Jiné kresby naopak připomínají zvláštní mapy s detailně prokreslenými cestičkami či naznačenými půdorysy staveb a měst. Jeho diplomová práce nese název Following Mutuality (2023).

Vojtěch Dvořák vystudoval Střední uměleckoprůmyslovou školu sv. Anežky v Českém Krumlově, od roku 2017 studuje na FaVU VUT v Brně, prošel Ateliérem malířství 1 a 2, kde pod vedením Luďka Rathouského, Vladimíra Houdka a Ondřeje Homoly i diplomuje. Absolvoval také stáž v Ateliéru intermédií. Vystavoval například v Ukradené galerii v Českém Krumlově nebo v Seidlově vile ve Ždánicích.

František Fekete

Vojtěch Dvořák (* 1998) is a painter and draughtsman working with the media of drawing and painting, which reveal, above all, his intense ability to communicate a subjective and intimate vision of the world. To do so, he mostly uses large-format oil paintings and smaller formats of drawings, as well as spatial installations, objects and videos. His works cannot be classified strictly as abstract or figurative paintings. In fact, their themes are based on the artist’s simple consciousness exploring the phenomena of reality.

He then uses basic painting strategies such as composition, colour, shape and line to translate these into original pictorial visions in varied palettes. He rediscovers the world and reveals it through imaginative subjectivism. The influences of surrealist automatism and expressive abstractionism can be found in them, but at the same time they escape such narrowing characterisations and resist their mere inclusion as the successors of modernism by excluding a unified aesthetic and social program. Instead, his authorial approach materialises the internal logic of the image and stimulates the viewer’s sensibility. The compositions do not have a strict internal geometry; they unfold as if from a haphazard beginning to an end. The structure of the paintings is sometimes almost psychedelic, but the subjects and titles of paintings such as King of Ants (2021) and Pebble Wants to be Elvis (2020) are both humorous and light-hearted. The spontaneity and playfulness emanating from his paintings thus evoke art brut or even media art. His drawings are based on a strong gestural quality, where the line repeatedly traces individual shapes or motifs. Shapes associate figurative fragments and faces in an imaginative intuition. Other drawings, on the other hand, evoke strange maps with detailed paths or outlined plans of buildings and cities. His thesis is entitled Following Mutuality (2023).

Vojtěch Dvořák graduated from the St. Agnes Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in Český Krumlov. From 2017 he studied at the FFA BUT (Painting Studio 1) and he graduated from Painting Studio 2 under the supervision of Luděk Rathouský, Vladimír Houdek and Ondřej Homola. He also completed an internship in the Intermedia Studio at the same university. He exhibited at the Ukradená Gallery in Český Krumlov and Villa Seidl in Ždánice.

Kristýna Gajdošová Kristýna Gajdošová (* 1997) spojuje ve své intermediální praxi zájmy o různé oblasti lidské tvůrčí činnosti: hudbu, módu a rave.

Situace před, během a po párty se stávají průsečíkem jejího zájmu mezi rave kulturou a současnou uměleckou scénou – dvěma diskurzy, které se v její tvorbě vzájemně ovlivňují. Párty tak pro Gajdošovou neznamená jen tanec v klubu, je to symbióza umožňující vyjádření a překonání tíživých i radostných, kolektivních a zároveň individuálních pocitů. Gajdošová hledá průniky osobního s kolektivním a vnější reality s vnitřním světem ve chvílích sdíleného prožitku. Představuje si a vytváří dočasné prostory pro společné trávení času, ve kterých je možné estetickými i mimoestetickými perspektivami svobodně nahlížet nové potenciální zdroje utopického myšlení. Výstupy její tvorby mají často podobu komplexního prostředí složeného z mnoha materiálově různých prvků s potenciálem participativního zapojení diváctva. Napříč dílčími projekty prostupují autorské kresby/ilustrace, které se podle potřeby dále vyvíjejí – někdy v potisk na látku, jindy třeba do podoby dočasného tetování aplikovaného na kůži návštěvnic*návštěvníků umělecké události. V rámci výstavy diplomových prací prezentuje svůj magisterský projekt Skrze nasáklý mrak (2023).

Vlastní praxi kombinuje se společnými aktivitami v několika autorských skupinách, s nimiž se podílí na uměleckých, ale také kurátorských a participativních projektech. Je členkou dívčího uměleckého kolektivu LILKY_60200. V roce 2022 spoluzaložila v prostoru někdejší galerie SOLO offspace nezávislý brněnský výstavní prostor Cejla. Cílem Cejly je vytvořit kurátorský kolektiv a platformu, která poskytne nový výstavní a vzdělávací prostor zaměřený především na studenty*studentky i čerstvé absolventy*absolventky uměleckých a uměnovědných oborů. Jako kurátorka působí od roku 2020 také v galerii Umakart – výstavním prostoru v podobě výkladní skříně neobsazeného obchodu, který umožňuje „navštívit“ galerii 24 hodin denně.

Kristýna Gajdošová je absolventkou Ateliéru intermédií FaVU VUT v Brně. Svou tvorbu Gajdošová doposud představila především na skupinových výstavách a projektech v rámci místní nezávislé galerijní scény, v zahraničí pak vystavovala například v Německu či Belgii. Během studia prošla několika studijními a pracovními stážemi v Čechách i zahraničí, konkrétně u Zuzanny Czebatul v Ateliéru hostujícího pedagoga FaVU (zimní semestr 2021–2022), Zeyny Pekünlü (letní semestr 2020–2021) a v ateliéru Malba 4 na Akademii výtvarných umění v Praze (2018). Absolvovala také studijní pobyt na The Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK), Media Art department v belgickém Gentu (2020–2021).

Veronika Čechová

Kristýna Gajdošová (* 1997) combines her interests in various areas of human creativity in her intermedia practices: music, fashion and raves. The situations before, during and after a party become the intersection of her interests in rave culture and in the contemporary art scene—two discourses that influence each other in her work. For Gajdošová, partying is not just dancing in a club; it is a symbiosis that allows for the expression and overcoming of feelings that are oppressive and joyful, collective and individual.

Gajdošová explores the intersections of the personal with the collective, and the external reality with the internal world in moments of shared experience. She imagines and creates temporary spaces for spending time together in which new potential sources of utopian thinking can be freely glimpsed through aesthetic and non-aesthetic perspectives. The outcomes of her work often take the form of complex environments composed of many materially diverse elements, with the potential for participatory audience engagement.

Permeating across the sub-projects are original drawings/illustrations that evolve further as needed—sometimes into a print on fabric; at other times perhaps into a temporary tattoo applied to the skin of visitors to an art event. As part of the diploma exhibition, she presents her master’s project Through the Soaked Cloud (2023).

She combines her own practice and collaborative activities within several artist groups, with whom she participates in artistic, curatorial and participatory projects. She is a member of the girls’ art collective LILKY_60200. In 2022, she co-founded the independent Brno exhibition space Cejla in the space of the former SOLO offspace Gallery. The aim of Cejla is to create a curatorial collective and a platform that will provide a new exhibition and educational space aimed primarily at students and recent graduates in art and art history. As a curator, she has also been working at Umakart Gallery since 2020—an exhibition space in the form of an unoccupied store window that allows viewers to “visit” the gallery 24 hours a day.

Kristýna Gajdošová is a graduate of the Intermedia Studio at the FFA BUT. Up to this point she has mainly presented her works in group exhibitions and projects within the local independent gallery scene, and she has exhibited in Germany and Belgium.

During her studies, Gajdošová completed several study and work internships in the Czech Republic and abroad, specifically with Zuzana Czebatul at the Visiting Teacher’s Studio at the FFA BUT (winter semester 2021–2022), with Zeyna Pekünlü (summer semester 2020–2021), and in the Painting Studio 4 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (2018). She also completed a study stay at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK), Media Art department in Ghent, Belgium (2020–2021).

Martin Gračka Martin Gračka (* 1992) se zabývá především figurální malbou s přesahy do žánru portrétu a zátiší. Dlouhodobě se zajímá o elementární otázky malířského řemesla, jako je práce s čistou barvou, komplementárními barvami, práce s kompozicí, malířská gesta a zkratky. V jeho vyjadřovacím jazyce lze vysledovat inspiraci modernou a experimentální využití nejrůznějších stylů a manýr, nejsilněji je přítomný odkaz ke kubismu.

Náměty obrazů jsou široce rozkročené mezi všedními výjevy z každodenního života, městskými i přírodními scenériemi, ženskými akty, motivy z textů a názvů hudebních skladeb či filmů i postavami a scénami z počítačových her. Ve většině tematických sérií je zpravidla možné rozpoznat přítomnost humoru a nadsázky, s nimiž autor zvolené náměty uchopuje.

Pro sérii maleb vzniklých v rámci diplomové práce si Gračka určil za východisko užití základních barev s mnohovrstevnatým pastózním nánosem vrstvy olejových barev, které tvoří až fyzickou strukturu obrazů. Autorovým cílem je mimo jiné prozkoumání podobností mezi grafikou videoher hraných kolem roku 2000 a modernistickými obrazy. Toto dobové ukotvení se promítá do formální stránky obrazů v podobě gest a malířských zkratek zachycujících nedokonalosti tehdejší počítačové grafiky a její technologické limity, ale také atmosféru, kterou díky těmto nedostatkům a specifické vizualitě hry z tohoto období vyzařují. Mnoho maleb evokuje scény ze světa thrillerů a hororových filmů a sdílejí tísnivou atmosféru a nehostinné prostředí s náznaky dramatu mezilidských vztahů a interakcí.

Dosavadní výstavní aktivity Martina Gračky spočívají především ve skupinových výstavách a projektech v rámci místní nezávislé galerijní scény a site-specific autorských prezentací. Kromě studia malby v Ateliéru malířství 1 pod vedením Vasila Artamonova prošel také několika semestrálními stážemi v dalších uměleckých ateliérech na FaVU VUT v Brně, mj. v Ateliéru malířství 3 u Petra Kvíčaly a Břetislava Malého, Ateliéru tělového designu u Lenky Klodové a Karolíny Kohoutkové nebo Ateliéru herních médií u Vojtěcha Vaňka a Tomáše Hrůzy.

Veronika Čechová

Martin Gračka (* 1992) mainly deals with figurative painting and with overlaps into the genres of portrait and still life. He has long been interested in elementary issues regarding the painter’s craft, such as working with pure colour, complementary colours, composition, painter’s gestures and abbreviations. In his expressive language, one can trace the inspiration of modernism and the experimental use of various styles and mannerisms, with the strongest reference to cubism.

The themes of the paintings range widely among scenes from everyday life; urban and natural scenery, female nudes, motifs from the lyrics and titles of musical compositions and films, as well as characters and scenes from computer games. In most of the thematic series it is usually possible to detect the presence of the humour and exaggeration with which the author treats his chosen themes.

For the series of paintings created as part of his diploma thesis, Gračka chose to use primary colours as a starting point, using a multi-layered paste of oil paints to form the physical structure of the paintings. One of the author’s aims is to explore the similarities between the graphics of video games played around the year 2000 and modernist paintings. This period setting is reflected in the formality of the paintings, in the form of gestures and painters’ abbreviations that capture the imperfections of the computer graphics of the time and their technological limits. But it also reflects the atmosphere that emanates from the games of this period, caused by these shortcomings and their specific visuality. Many paintings evoke scenes from the world of thrillers and horror films, and have oppressive atmospheres and inhospitable environments with hints of the drama of interpersonal relationships and interactions.

Martin Gračka’s current exhibition activities mainly consist of group exhibitions and projects within the local independent gallery scene and site-specific artist presentations. In addition to his studies in Painting Studio 1 under the supervision of Vasil Artamonov, he has completed several semester-long internships in other art studios at the FFA BUT, including the Body Design Studio under Petr Kvíčala and Břetislav Malý and the Studio of Game Media under Vojtěch Vaněk and Tomáš Hrůza.

Tereza Hašková Práce Terezy Haškové (* 1998) jsou složeny z bytelných site-specific instalací a vycházejí z původní architektury či místa. Za pomoci objektů se autorka snaží o rozšíření povědomí o krajině kolem nás.

Pohrává si s myšlenkou na aktivnější zapojení lokální krajiny či staveb z dob minulých. Prvky z land artu využívá jako komunikační nástroj pro tvorbu monumentálních venkovních sousoší. Používá především přírodní materiály, jako je dřevo nebo kov, z nichž tvoří velkolepé venkovní instalace. Jedná se například o dílo Dva duby (2021), které Hašková vytvořila v rámci své bakalářské práce na FaVU VUT v Brně. Objekt se nachází u obce Nový Rychnov v krajině na poli. Spojením dřevěného pódia vzniká mezi stromy přechod, kam se mohou obyvatelé*obyvatelky chodit scházet a posedávat, pokud se chtějí vydat na procházku či jen trávit čas v přírodě. Zároveň vznikly dronové videozáběry krajiny, na nichž si instalaci můžeme prohlédnout z jiného úhlu, a uchopit tak představu o širší perspektivě okolní krajiny.

V objektové instalaci Stromořadí (2018) autorka představuje několik objektů z kovových kruhů umístěných na dlouhých bidlech tyčících se v krajině. Výška celé instalace se téměř rovná výšce skutečných stromů obklopujících dílo. Kolem této scenérie se pasou krávy a život zkrátka probíhá dál, za účasti nerušícího uměleckého sousoší. Objekt s názvem Kláda (2019) autorka umístila tentokrát do vnitřních prostor. Můžeme se domnívat, že se jedná o opačnou polohu než ve dvou předchozích pracích: objekt byl tentokrát přenesen do „kultivovaného“ městského prostředí. Jedná se o vcelku monumentální objekt tvořený z jednoho celistvého kusu stromu, do kterého jsou vyřezány jednotlivé geometrické sekce. Objekt působí částečně jako optický klam a dává divákovi pocit, jako by se kmen stromu vysouval a zasouval pomocí určitého automatizovaného cyklu.

Ve své diplomové práci Drtička kamene (2023) se Hašková zabývá krajinou. S tímto tématem pracuje již čtvrtým rokem a krajina pro ni představuje převážně vlastní hluboké vnímání kulturního dědictví. Snaží se zdůraznit a podpořit vnímání okolí za pomoci lokálních výtvarných intervencí. Projekt má, stejně jako u předchozích projektů, sociálně-kulturní potenciál a měl by přinášet estetický zážitek i vybízet kolemjdoucí k využití jeho možností, jako je společné scházení a odpočinek. Jedná se o původní drtičku kamene, ze které zbyl dnes už jen obrys základů stavby. Nachází se ve starém lomu v obci Horní Cerekev a z jedné strany jej obklopuje voda. Autorka zde pracuje s renovací hlavní podesty domu a vytváří pódium, kde se v budoucnu dají pořádat společná setkání pro místní obyvatelstvo. Má tak ambici kontinuálně pracovat na obnově komunikace a navázání pevných vztahů obyvatelů*obyvatelek k jejich okolí.

Natálie Kubíková

The works of Tereza Hašková (* 1998) are composed of robust site-specific installations and are based on original architecture or place. With the help of objects, the artist tries to expand our awareness of the landscape around us. She plays with the idea of a more active involvement of the local landscape and buildings from the past. She uses elements from land art as a communication tool to create monumental outdoor sculptures. She mainly uses natural materials such as wood and metal to create spectacular outdoor installations. This is the case, for example, with the work Two Oak Trees (2021), which Hašková created as part of her bachelor thesis at the FFA BUT. The installation is located next to the village of Nový Rychnov in a field. By adding a wooden platform, a crossing point is created between the trees and residents can come and sit and go for a walk, or just spend time in the countryside. A drone video footage of the landscape has been created, where one can view the installation from a different angle and get an idea of the wider perspective of the surrounding landscape.

In the object installation Trees (2018), the artist presents several objects made of metal rings, which are placed on long perches towering in the landscape. The height of the entire installation is almost equal to the height of the actual trees surrounding the work.

Around this scenery cows graze and life goes on, all in the presence of a non-disturbing artistic sculpture. The artist placed the object titled Log (2019) indoors. We can assume that this is the opposite position to the two previous works: this time the object has been moved into a “cultivated” urban environment. It is quite a monumental object made up of one solid piece of a tree, into which individual geometric sections are carved. The object functions partly as an optical illusion, giving the viewer the feeling that the tree trunk is being extended and retracted through some kind of automated cycle.

In her diploma thesis titled Crusher of Stone (2023), Hašková deals with landscape. This is the fourth year she has worked with this topic and, for her, the landscape mainly represents her own deep perception of cultural heritage. She tries to emphasise and support the perception of the surroundings with the help of local artistic interventions. As with her previous projects, the project has socio-cultural potential and should provide an aesthetic experience and encourage passers-by to take advantage of its possibilities, such as gathering together and relaxing. The site was originally a stone crusher, of which only an outline of the building’s foundations remains today. It is located in an old quarry in the village of Horní Cerekev and has water on one side of the site. The author is renovating the main landing of the house and creating a stage where in the future it will be possible to organise social gatherings for the residents. She has an ambition to continuously work on the restoration of the communication, and the establishment of strong relationships, between the inhabitants and their surroundings.

Volha Huseva Volha Huseva (* 1996) se zabývá sochařským materiálem a keramikou, ve kterých nalézá svůj pevný základ, přestože její projekty mají více poloh. Vizuální přemýšlení přesahuje klasickou sochu. V jejích pracích se můžeme seznámit s experimentováním s různými formami v rámci klasického sochařského média, jako je pálená hlína, porcelán, montážní pěna nebo směs odpadních materiálů – dřeva, kovu, plastu apod. Zároveň se v autorčině práci nachází jemný, ale důležitý přístup procesuálnosti, který někdy hravě směřuje spíše k experimentu s ohraničenou formou, již chce autorka zásadně narušit. Její projekty odkazují ke společensko-politickým tématům.

Plynule střídá svoje schopnosti volné i užité tvorby. Onu procesuálnost a experiment vidíme v rané práci věnované společenským fenoménům, jako je např. plastická chirurgie. Autorka v díle Tváře smrti (2017) reflektuje oběti plastické chirurgie. Vytváří odlitky lidských masek, na kterých nechává procesuálně zaznamenat vyžírání čistícím přípravkem. Některé části se z nich pak ztrácejí, propadají se pod potřísněným toxickým materiálem. Téma plastické chirurgie rezonuje se sochařstvím – plastický chirurg jako „Ten“, který přetváří lidské tváře, ne vždy povedeně. Fascinace krásou a umanutost se „zlepšovat“ se pak stává psychickou závislostí.

Huseva postupně do svého vizuálního zázemí přivádí environmentální postupy, ve kterých si podrobuje celkový prostor, a v lecčem se tak dotýká happeningu – jednodenních akcí, kde také převládá další médium – kresba či zásadní dokumentace pomocí fotografie. V díle Špinavá Volha (2020) reaguje na znečištění jedné z největších řek Evropy. Využívá trash estetiky, když vyhozené plastové tašky spojuje dohromady a instaluje je v přírodním prostředí řeky. Vytváří tak konflikt dvou různých prostředí.

V díle Zóna (2021) si autorka pohrává s dystopickou estetikou filmu Stalker (1979) od Andreje Tarkovského. V pochmurném prostředí veřejné umývárny a jejích keramických obkladů využívá záznam kresby, skrze niž pohlcuje celý vnitřní prostor umývárny, která se stává součástí jejího sochařského záměru. S postupnými otisky a zvuky tekoucí vody z kohoutků se dostáváme do fiktivních světů mimo lidské entity. V projektu Domov? (2022) zase odkazuje k politické situaci vlivu dezinformací nejen na východní Evropu, ale na celý svět. Tíživou situaci v její rodné zemi, Bělorusku, demonstrují pocity zobrazené v šedé krychli, která nemá žádná okna a na první pohled se stává vězeňskou celou. Konflikt již v názvu díla přináší i otázku, kde se můžeme opravdu cítit bezpečně. Trashová estetika montážní pěny, šedé jeskyně se setkává s precizností určitých sochařských postupů.

Tyto specifické postupy, genezi svých děl od přeměny jednotlivých soch do podrobeného prostředí, využívá i při své diplomové práci To, co chci vidět (2023), která zhodnocuje její vizuální přemýšlení směrem ke každodenním politickým a angažovaným činnostem. Skrze svůj běloruský původ se autorka vrací k reakci na současný konflikt ve východní Evropě, a to k propagandě jakožto modernímu nástroji k ovlivňování lidského vědomí. V opuštěném objektu divadla prostřednictvím instalace reflektuje válečnou propagandu – agresivní způsob vytváření dezinformací a strachu obětí, které pak následkem toho vezmou dobrovolně zbraně do ruky.

Autorka chce využít podobných strategií a navodit atmosféru pomocí instalace v konkrétním prostoru. Výstupem pak jsou velkoformátové fotografie, které autorka reflektovala i v předešlé práci.

Volha Huseva (* 1996) deals with sculptural material and ceramics, and in those she finds her solid foundation, although her projects have multiple forms. Her visual thinking goes beyond classical sculpture. In her works we can get acquainted with experimentation with various forms within the classical sculptural medium, such as baked clay, porcelain, mounting foam and a mixture of waste materials—wood, metal, plastic, etc. At the same time, there is the subtle but important approach of processualism in the artist’s work, which sometimes playfully tends towards experimentation with a circumscribed form that the artist wants to fundamentally disrupt. Her projects refer to socio-political themes. Huseva seamlessly alternates between her free and applied creative skills. This processualism and experimentation can be seen in her early work dealing with social phenomena such as plastic surgery. In Faces of Death (2017), the artist reflects on the victims of plastic surgery.

She creates casts of human masks, where she has them procedurally recorded as being eaten away by a cleaning product. Some of the masks then disappear, lost beneath the smeared toxic material. The very theme of plastic surgery resonates with sculpture— the plastic surgeon as “He” who reshapes human faces, not always successfully. The fascination and the compulsion to “improve” and “beautify” then becomes a psychological addiction.

Huseva gradually introduces environmental practices into her visual background, in which she conquers the overall space and, in many ways, touches on happenings—one-day events where another medium—drawing or the fundamental documentation of photography—also prevails. In Dirty Volga (2020), she responds to the pollution of one of Europe’s largest rivers. Using trash aesthetics, she uses discarded plastic bags, which she joins together and installs in the natural environment of the river. In doing so, she creates a conflict between two different environments that meet there.

In the bleak environment of a public washroom called The Zone (2021), the author plays with the dystopian aesthetics of Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker (1979). In the environment of ceramic tiles, the artist uses the recording of a drawing, through which she absorbs the entire environment inside the washroom, which at this moment becomes part of her sculptural intention. With the successive imprints and sounds of running water from the taps, we are transported into a setting of fictional worlds beyond human entities.

In the project Home? (2022), she again refers to the political situation regarding the influence of disinformation, not only on Eastern Europe, but on the whole world. The plight of her home country, Belarus, is demonstrated by the feelings depicted in a grey cube that has no windows and, at first glance, becomes a whole. The conflict in the title of the work also raises the question of where we can really feel safe. The trash aesthetics of the mounting foam, the grey cave, thus meets the precision of certain sculptural processes.

These specific processes; the genesis of her works from the transformation of individual sculptures into their subjugated environments, are also used in her final work What I Want to See (2023), which moves her visual thinking towards everyday political and engaged activities. Through her Belarusian origins, the artist returns to her response to the contemporary conflict in Eastern Europe, namely, to propaganda as a modern tool for influencing human consciousness. Through an installation in an abandoned theatre building, she reflects on war propaganda—an aggressive way of creating misinformation and fear among victims who then take up arms willingly as a result of the propaganda. The artist wants to use similar strategies to evoke an atmosphere through the installation in a specific space. The output will then be large-scale photographs, which the artist also reflected on in her previous work.

Volha Huseva absolvovala magisterské studium v Ateliéru sochařství 1 u Michala Gabriela a Tomáše Medka na FaVU VUT v Brně a také magisterské studium oboru Socha a prostor na Fakultě designu a umění Ladislava Sutnara Západočeské univerzity v Plzni. Zúčastnila se skupinových výstav sochařských prací studentů*studentek Ateliéru sochařství 1 v Botanické zahradě v Brně nebo skupinové výstavy Pokoje v Praze, dále vystavovala např. na Designbloku či v galerii Ladislava Sutnara v Plzni.

Tea Záchová

Volha Huseva completed her master’s studies at the Sculpture Studio 1 under Michal Gabriel and Tomáš Medek at the FFA BUT, and her master’s studies in the Sculptures and Space at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Art and Design. She participated in group exhibitions of sculptural works by students of the Sculpture Studio 1 of the FFA BUT in the Botanical Garden in Brno and in the group exhibition Rooms in Prague. She also exhibited at Designblok and at the Ladislav Sutnar Gallery in Pilsen.

Barbora Ilič Barbora Ilič (* 1993) vytváří videa a prostorové instalace, pro jejichž celkové vyznění a emocionální náboj je nezřídka stěžejní hudební složka a lehký podtón (sebe)ironie. Důležitým motivem v její tvorbě jsou kulturní, společenské a politické události a systémy v zemích bývalé Jugoslávie, zejména Srbsku, kde umělkyně žila. Napříč jejími uměleckými výstupy lze sledovat práci se specifickou symbolikou a estetikou oblasti tzv. Balkánu a také kritickou reflexi romantizované nostalgie po 90. letech minulého století jakožto času svobody a proměny spojené s nadějí ve světlé zítřky, než se mohly naplno projevit dopady nového společenského uspořádání s dominantním vlivem kapitalismu.

Snové a uvolněné „spojení nespojitelného“ v podobě kombinování popkulturních i čistě vizuálních odkazů na místa a situace, které autorku inspirovaly, se zhmotňuje v různých podobách: ať už jde o její vlastní umělecké projekty, výstavy, jichž je kurátorkou, nebo prostředí pro návštěvnickou interakci na rozmezí umění a zábavně stráveného volného času s přáteli, jako je tomu v případě baru/kulturního prostoru SPLIT, který spoluzaložila v roce 2019 v pražských Holešovicích a jehož existenci předčasně ukončil dopad restrikcí v době koronavirové krize. V roce 2022 pak spoluzaložila v prostoru někdejší galerie SOLO offspace nezávislý brněnský výstavní prostor Cejla. Cílem Cejly je vytvořit kurátorský kolektiv a platformu, která poskytne nový výstavní a vzdělávací prostor zaměřený především na studenty*studentky i čerstvé absolventy*absolventky uměleckých a uměnovědných oborů. Nově je Ilič také součástí kolektivu Ugly Brno, který se zabývá gentrifikací města Brna.

Diplomovým projektem Barbory Ilič je krátký autofikční film Barbara: The Weltschmerz Musical (2023). Skrze postavu cizinky-umělkyně s příznačným jménem Barbara poukazuje na intimní úroveň fenoménů, které utváří vztah tzv. Západu k tzv. Balkánu. Ten je v tomto případě zastoupen exjugoslávským prostorem, a to zejména nynějším Srbskem. Práce se tak skrze téma jugonostalgie dostává k otázkám dekolonizace vlastní identity, k reparativnímu obratu v umění a problematice toho, k čemu se vůbec můžeme ze své, téměř vždy nějakým způsobem privilegované, pozice vyjadřovat.

V roce 2022 byla nominována do soutěže Jiné vize CZ festivalu PAF Olomouc, který si dlouhodobě klade za cíl vytvářet povědomí o českém pohyblivém obraze: hraničních formách na pomezí animace, experimentálního filmu a videoartu. Za svůj krátký snímek Platonic Breakup (2022) získala cenu diváků. Svou tvorbu Ilič doposud představila především na skupinových výstavách a projektech v rámci české a srbské nezávislé galerijní scény. Před studiem umění se věnovala společenským vědám, bakalářský titul získala na Katedře sociologie Filozofické fakulty Univerzity Karlovy v Praze a poté pokračovala ve studiu nových médií na Ústavu informačních studií a knihovnictví na téže univerzitě. Je absolventkou Ateliéru videa FaVU VUT v Brně u Martina Mazance a Jana Šrámka.

Veronika Čechová

Barbora Ilič (* 1993) creates videos and spatial installations in which the overall impression and emotional charge are often determined by a musical component and a slight undertone of (self-)irony. Important motifs in her work are cultural, social and political events and systems in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, especially Serbia, where the artist has lived. Throughout her artistic output one can trace in her work the specific symbolism and aesthetics of the Balkan region, as well as a critical reflection on the romanticised nostalgia for the 1990s, seen as a time of freedom and transformation, coupled with hope for a brighter tomorrow, before the effects of the new social order with the dominant influence of capitalism could fully manifest themselves.

The dreamy and relaxed “fusion of something that cannot be connected”, in the form of combining pop culture and purely visual references to places and situations that inspired the artist, materialises in various forms: her own art projects, exhibitions she curates, and environments for visitor interaction at the intersection of art and fun leisure time spent with friends. Such is the case of the bar/cultural space SPLIT, which she co-founded in 2019 in Holešovice, Prague, and whose existence was prematurely ended by the impact of restrictions during the coronavirus crisis. In 2022 she co-founded the independent Brno exhibition space Cejla in the space of the former SOLO offspace Gallery. Cejla’s aim is to create a curatorial collective and platform that will provide a new exhibition and educational space aimed primarily at students and recent graduates in art and art history. Ilič is also part of the Ugly Brno collective, which deals with the gentrification of Brno.

Ilič’s diploma project is the short auto-fiction film Barbara: The Weltschmerz Musical (2023). Through the character of a foreign artist with the characteristic name Barbara, she points to the intimate level of the phenomena that shape the relationship between the so-called West and the so-called Balkans. In this case, the latter is represented by the ex-Yugoslav space, especially by the present-day Serbia. Through the theme of Yugonostalgia, the work looks at the questions of the decolonisation of one’s own identity, the reparative turn in art and the issue of what we can even comment on from our usually privileged positions.

In 2022 Barbora Ilič was nominated in the Other Visions CZ competition at the PAF Olomouc festival, a showcase that has long aimed to create awareness of the Czech moving image: border forms between animation, experimental film, and video art.

Her short film Platonic Breakup (2022) won the audience award.

Ilič has so far mainly presented her works in group exhibitions and projects within the Czech and Serbian independent gallery scene.

Prior to studying art, Ilič studied social sciences, earning her bachelor’s degree at the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. She then went on to study new media at the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship at the same university. She graduated from the Video Studio at the FFA BUT under Martin Mazanec and Jan Šrámek.

Risto Ilič Risto Ilič (* 1995) je autorem rozsáhlé série mnohovstevnatého projektu Ugly Brno (2019–dosud), který vytvořil společně s Johannesem Tröstlerem a Barborou Ilič. Cílem projektu bylo zdokumentovat grafickou vizuální estetiku provozoven v centru města a současně sledovat tlak na zrychlenou gentrifikaci. Jedná se o videa či fotografie, převážně v podobě záznamů či archivací, následně přetvořených do galerijních instalací. Ugly Brno zde polemizuje nad grafickou identitou města a jejím uplatněním ve veřejném prostoru. Inscenovaná hra s videozáznamem Ugly Brno: Interviews (2019) vychází z prvotního dílu, nesoucího název Ugly Brno: Inception (2019), který reaguje na městskou prezentaci na zasedání města Brna-střed za účelem návrhu přeměny grafické identity. Ve čtvrté části projektu Ilič pomocí herců přejímá fráze, které zaznívají v původní nahrávce, a vytváří tak fiktivní narativy, jež recyklují argumenty a vize ze skutečné nahrávky. Na cyklus výstav částečně navazuje i audiovizuální instalace s názvem I am The One Who’s Gonna Steal Your Job (2023), kde se Ilič kriticky dotýká tématu oborového pracovního uplatnění pro absolventy* absolventky vysokých uměleckých škol. Závěsný obraz zde může sloužit jako objekt zájmu pro generování zisku z umělecké praxe a samotná malba jakožto zpeněžitelné médium pro trh s uměním. Počítačově generované obrazy vycházejí z fotografií vitrín i obchodů v centru Brna, a stávají se tak precedentem etické otázky autorství uměleckého díla poukazujíce na budoucnost užívání AI technologií v umělecké praxi. Právě počítačové technologie a umělá inteligence se pomocí uživatelských aplikací staly dostupné všem a v současnosti se již více umělců*umělkyň zabývá otázkou autenticity umělce*umělkyně či uměleckého díla. Ilič pracuje spíše gesticky a v díle I am The One Who’s Gonna Steal Your Job otevírá mnoho témat spojených s myšlenkovými pochody o sobě samém i o budoucnosti umění.

Kromě Ugly Brno jsou v Iličových projektech inspirací také kombinace mytologických bájí a křesťanských poselství. Ty využívá k vytvoření ‚‚současných mágů‘‘, jež tak odpovídají ‚‚západocentrickému pohledu‘‘ na současné umění. Například v instalaci s názvem The Soya Tears of Sibyl’s Dreams (2019) se Ilič kriticky věnuje tématu růstu jakožto soudobého nástroje pro neustálou produkci kapitálu i pomyslných úspěchů a odkazuje na společnost, která zapomněla, jak žít v souladu s úrodným a neúrodným zároveň.

Ve videu Nekršteni dani (2019) naopak představuje postavu umělce-bílého mága a imaginativně zde přetváří svět v místo, které se neřídí pravidly kapitalismu. Spojuje tak ve své práci sociálně-ekonomické vazby a dává je do kontextu s environmentální krizí. V rámci diplomové výstavy prezentuje svůj závěrečný projekt I Am The One Who’s Gonna Steal Your Job (2023).

Risto Ilič studoval obor Teorie interaktivních médií na Filozofické fakultě Masarykovy univerzity v Brně. Je absolventem Ateliéru videa u Martina Mazance a Jana Šrámka na FaVU VUT v Brně.

Absolvoval pracovní stáž v Kulturním centru Bělehradu a stáž na Cooper Union School of Arts v New Yorku. Zde vznikl navazující projekt Ugly Brno 5: Ghost Identity (2019), v němž se práce s bannery a výlohami z Brna setkává s prostředím newyorského Manhattanu, který je svým vizuálním smogem amerického kapitalismu pověstný.

Natálie Kubíková

Risto Ilič (* 1995) is one of the authors of the extensive series of the multi-layered project Ugly Brno (2019–present), which he created with artists Johannes Tröstler and Barbora Ilič. The aim of the project was to document the graphic visual aesthetics of business premises in the city centre, while simultaneously tracking the pressures of accelerated gentrification. The works include videos and photographs, mostly in the form of recordings and archival footage, and subsequently transformed into gallery installations. Here, Ugly Brno delivers a polemic over the graphic identity of the city and its application in public spaces. The stage play with video footage from the project Ugly Brno: Interviews (2019), is based on an initial project under the title Ugly Brno: Inception (2019), which is a response to the city’s presentation, and is set in the context of a Brno-Centre Council meeting, and is presented in order to propose a transformation of Brno’s graphic identity.

In the fourth part of the project, Ilič uses actors to replay the phrases heard in the original recording, creating fictional narratives that recycle arguments and visions from the recording. The series of exhibitions is partially followed by an audio-visual installation titled I am The One Who’s Gonna Steal Your Job (2023), which ilič also presents in the diploma exhibition. Here Ilič critically touches upon the topic of job prospects for art school graduates. The hung painting can serve as an object of interest for generating profit from artistic work, and the painting itself as a monetizable medium for the art market. The computer-generated paintings are based on photographs of shop windows and shops in the centre of Brno, thus becoming a precedent for the ethical questions of the authorship of the artwork itself, and pointing to the future with the use of AI technologies in art practices. Computer technology and artificial intelligence have become accessible to all users through user applications, and today more and more artists are dealing with the question of the authenticity of an artist or of an artwork itself.

As a result, the artist works in a rather gestural way and in his work I am The One Who’s Gonna Steal Your Job he opens up many topics related to thought processes about himself and the future of art.

In addition to Ugly Brno, Ilič’s projects are also inspired by a combination of ancient myths and Christian messages. He uses these to create ‘’contemporary magicians’’ who thus correspond to the ‘’Western-centric view’’ of contemporary art. For example, in the installation titled The Soya Tears of Sibyl’s Dreams (2019), the artist critically deals with the theme of growth as a contemporary tool for the constant production of capital and imaginary achievements, referring to a society that has forgotten how to live in harmony with the fertile and the infertile at the same time. In the video Nekršteni dani (2019), on the other hand, he presents the figure of the artist—a white magician—and imaginatively transforms the world into a place governed by rules outside the world of capitalism. In doing so, he brings together socio-economic connections in his work and places them in the context of the environmental crisis.

Risto Ilič completed his bachelor’s degree in Theory of Interactive Media at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University in Brno.

He subsequently graduated from the Video Studio at the FFA BUT. He also completed an internship in the United States at the Cultural Center of Belgrade (Serbia) and the Cooper Union in New York (USA), where he created the follow-up project Ugly Brno 5: Ghost Identity (2019), in which a work with banners and signs of Brno is confronted with the environment of Manhattan, which is famous for its visual smog caused by American capitalism.

Sára Jarošová Sára Jarošová (* 1998) se zabývá osobní a kolektivní pamětí ve vztahu k nejrůznějším médiím. Intermediální přístup jí dovoluje zkoumat téma paměti v celé jeho šíři – od vizuální analýzy společenských rituálů přes inscenované video eseje o vztahu paměti a místa po abstraktní malby, které zachycují osobní vzpomínky pomocí nečitelných znaků a barevných skvrn.

Ve svých textech skládá fragmenty příběhů, které vyprávějí o realitě neprivilegovaných jazykem ohlodaným na kost. Ve své práci často využívá optiku dítěte, která není naivní ani nostalgická, ale bezprostředně chaotická a někdy až podvratná. Do videofilmů, které vznikají ve spolupráci s Davidem Neumannem, obsazuje dětské protagonisty jako zdroj autentické výpovědi na hraně dokumentu a fikce.

Ve videu s názvem A co kdyby? (2022) snímala dvojici dětí, jak improvizovaně předvádějí zdánlivě nesmyslné činnosti, které plynule přecházely do rituálního zaříkávání nebo zcizující interakce s objektivem kamery. Dívka i chlapec na sobě měli barevné roztrhané kostýmy, na obličeji líčení a chvílemi spolu komunikovali fiktivním jazykem. Pomocí klíčování se střídavě pohybovali v zasněženém lese nebo na jezerní hladině. Změna měřítka z nich vytvářela drobnou součást biosféry. Ve videu se Jarošová snažila zpochybnit zažitou představu o individuálním tvůrci a nabídla odpověď v podobě kolektivního autorství. Spekulativní otázka z názvu videa se vztahovala k hledání nových možností kooperace živých a neživých složek v rámci otevřené struktury přírodního ekosystému. Jakým způsobem by se proměnila společnost, kdybychom „spolupráci“ definovali jako blízký vztah plný lásky? Je autorství pouhá iluze postkapitalistického diskurzu, která má potvrzovat tradiční dělbu práce? Video A co kdyby? (2022) bylo prezentováno na skupinové výstavě Cuerpo Transparente v Centro de Producción Audiovisual Leonardo Favio v Buenos Aires. Její textová sbírka s názvem Naleštěnej Mercedes (2023) byla publikována na digitální platformě pro současnou poezii Psí víno. V rámci výstavy diplomových prací prezentuje svůj závěrečný projekt Můj teenage dream nikdy nekončí (2023), který se zabývá tématem utopické budoucnosti a irelevantnosti historie. Je zpracován ve 3D digitálně vytvořeném prostředí herního enginu Unreal Engine 5.

Sára Jarošová vystudovala bakalářský obor Filmová, divadelní, televizní a rozhlasová studia na Filozofické fakultě Univerzity Palackého v Olomouci. Je absolventkou Ateliéru environmentu FaVU VUT v Brně pod vedením Barbory Klímové a Matěje Smetany.

Jiří Havlíček

Sára Jarošová (* 1998) deals with personal and collective memory in relation to various media. Her inter-media approach allows her to explore the theme of memory in its entirety—from visual analyses of social rituals, to staged video essays dealing with the relationship between memory and place, to abstract paintings that capture personal memories through illegible marks and splashes of colour.

In her texts she composes fragments of stories that narrate the reality of the unprivileged in a language stripped to the bone.

Her work often adopts a child’s perspective, which is neither naive nor nostalgic, but downright chaotic and sometimes even subversive. In the video films in collaboration with David Neumann she casts child protagonists as sources of authentic testimony verging on documentary and fiction.

In a video titled What If? (2022), she filmed a pair of children improvising seemingly nonsensical activities that transitioned seamlessly into ritual incantations and alienating interactions with the camera lens. Both the girl and the boy wore colourful tattered costumes and makeup, and at times they communicated with each other in a fictional language. They alternately moved through a snowy forest or were on the surface of a lake. The change of scale made them a tiny part of the biosphere. The video sought to challenge the accepted notion of the individual creator, and offered a response in the form of collective authorship. The speculative question of the video’s title relates to the search for new possibilities of cooperation between living and non-living components within the open structure of the natural ecosystem. How would society be transformed if we defined “cooperation” as a close relationship full of love? Is authorship a mere illusion of post-capitalist discourse meant to affirm the traditional division of labour? The video What If? was presented as part of the group exhibition Cuerpo Transparente at the Centro de Producción Audiovisual Leonardo Favio in Buenos Aires. Her text collection, titled Polished Mercedes, was published on the digital platform for contemporary poetry Psí víno.

As part of the diploma exhibition, Jarošová presents her final project My Teenage Dream Never Ends (2023), which deals with the theme of a utopian future and the irrelevance of history. It is developed in a 3D digital environment using the Unreal Engine 5 game engine.

Sára Jarošová graduated from the Faculty of Arts of the Palacký University, Olomouc, majoring in Film, Theatre, Television and Radio Studies, where she received her bachelor’s degree. She is a graduate of the Environment Studio of the FFA BUT under the guidance of Barbora Klímová and Matěj Smetana.

Yuliya Jonas Yuliya Jonas (* 1993) je fotografka zabývající se mimo jiné animací, zvukem a intervencemi do veřejného prostoru. Zajímá se o paměť ve vztahu k přítomnosti a budoucnosti. Zpracovává své vlastní vzpomínky, ale i současná společenská témata, jako je ekologická havárie nebo nedobrovolná migrace. Konceptuální uvažování se v její práci prolíná s poetickým viděním a angažovaným přístupem. Vizuální výstupy, nejčastěji v podobě fotografií, objektů nebo instalací, jsou většinou minimalisticky úsporné. Kromě analogové a digitální fotografie se v její práci objevuje zájem o starší postupy ve vytváření obrazové reprezentace, jako je camera obscura nebo ručně kreslená animace.

V interaktivní videoinstalaci s názvem Box of Idea (2019) si divák mohl pomocí DIY rozhraní přehrávat jednoduché ručně kreslené animace barevných geometrických tvarů, které nápadně připomínaly konkrétní objekty. Minimalistická abstraktní estetika v sobě skrývala konkrétní příběhy. Otáčející se žlutočervená koule vypadala jako dětský míč, šedomodrý kužel jako špičatá kouzelnická čapka. Neustálá transformace podivných tvarů, připomínajících nepovedená platónská tělesa, manifestovala přechod od myšlenky k objektu a zase zpět. Pro kolaborativní projekt polské umělkyně Zuzanny Czebatul vytvořila objekt s názvem When the Wind Blows (2022), model monumentu ve veřejném prostoru ve tvaru zvětšené dětské hračky. Rudá barva pěticípého větrníku odkazovala na symbol komunismu, který se ve větru dával do pohybu a na chvíli ztrácel svůj původní tvar. Když se vítr utišil, tvar se objevil znovu.

Přírodní živel jej očistil od historického nánosu, aktualizoval ho, aby mohl znovu vstoupit do hry. Objekt When the Wind Blows byl součástí skupinové výstavy Adjustable Monuments (2022) v galerii Sammlung Philara v Düsseldorfu. V rámci diplomové výstavy prezentuje svůj magisterský projekt s názvem Bus stop (2023).

Yuliya Jonas vystudovala bakalářský obor Fotografie na Fakultě umění v Ostravě. Na FaVU VUT v Brně je diplomantkou v Ateliéru environmentu u Barbory Klímové a Matěje Smetany.

Jiří Havlíček

Yuliya Jonas (* 1993) is a photographer working with animation, sound and interventions in public spaces. She is interested in memory in relation to the present and the future. She processes her own memories as well as contemporary social issues such as ecological accidents and involuntary migration. Conceptual thinking is intertwined with poetic vision and an activist approach in her work. The visual outputs, most often in the form of photographs, objects or installations, are usually minimalistic. In addition to analogue and digital photography, her work shows an interest in older practices of creating visual representation, such as camera obscura and hand-drawn animation.

In an interactive video installation titled Box of Idea (2019), the viewer could play with, via a DIY interface, simple hand-drawn animations of colourful geometric shapes that were strikingly reminiscent of specific objects. The minimalist and abstract aesthetics encapsulated concrete stories. A spinning yellow-red ball looked like a child’s ball and a grey-blue cone resembled a pointy magician’s hat. The constant transformation of strange shapes, reminiscent of failed Platonic bodies, manifested the transition from idea to object and back again. For a collaborative project by Polish artist Zuzanna Czebatul Jonas created the object When the Wind Blows (2022), a model of a monument in public space in the shape of an enlarged children’s toy. The red colour of the five-pointed pinwheel referred to the symbol of communism, and it was moving in the wind, and at times losing its original shape. When the wind died down, the original shape reappeared. The natural element cleansed it of its historical accretion, updating it so that it could come into play again. When the Wind Blows was part of the group exhibition Adjustable Monuments (2022) at the Sammlung Philara Gallery in Düsseldorf. As part of the diploma exhibition, she presents her master’s project Bus Stop (2023).

Yuliya Jonas graduated in Photography from the Faculty of Arts in Ostrava, where she received her bachelor’s degree.

She obtained her master’s degree at the FFA BUT in the Environment Studio under the supervision of Barbora Klímová and Matěj Smetana.

Ľubomír Kralovič Ľubomír Kralovič (* 1996) se ve své umělecké praxi kontinuálně a s důsledným soustředěním věnuje ztvárňování lidské – specificky mužské – postavy. Nejde ovšem o přímočaré zkoumání fyziologie a obecného archetypu lidské tělesné schránky. Abstrahovaná mužská postava je zde zástupným symbolem a pomůckou k ohledávání konkrétních vzpomínek z doby autorova dětství a fenoménu paměti obecně. Zaměření projektu je částečně introspektivní a velice osobní, Kralovič ve zpracování konkrétního vzhledu svých soch-loutek vychází z vlastní fyzické podoby a také z autentických vzpomínek na domov jakožto ztělesnění jistoty známého a bezpečného prostředí.

V diplomovém projektu s poetickým názvem Vzpomínková smyčka (2023) autor navazuje na svou dosavadní práci a rozhodl se přistoupit ke komplexnímu propojení dosavadních dílčích témat a fyzických forem. Spojuje zde fragmenty vzpomínek zpracované v ranějších výstupech, jakým byl např. projekt bakalářské práce, v němž Kralovič pod názvem Vnitřní autoportrét (2020–2021) vytvořil sousoší postav otce a syna v takřka životních velikostech.

Zatímco v předchozích realizacích šlo ve většině případů o intuitivní tvorbu se záměrem zkoušet, objevovat a porozumět, v diplomové práci jde o snahu uspořádat poznatky na dané téma do smysluplného celku. Výsledná prostorová instalace vzniklá na základě virtuálních 3D modelů reprezentuje koláž několika autorovi důvěrně známých míst–pokojů, „rekonstruovaných“ do představené podoby čistě na základě mentálního obrazu vzpomínky na tato místa. Forma diplomové práce je snová, neskutečná, tak jak se jeví mentální obraz daného místa. Tato neskutečnost, umělost a snovost je umocněna pojetím výstavního prostředí, v němž je kromě samotných soch, které jsou cíleně schematizované a materiálově zploštělé, co nejmenší množství dalších rušivých prvků. Ľubomír Kralovič je absolventem Ateliéru sochařství 1 FaVU VUT v Brně pod vedením Michala Gabriela.

Veronika Čechová

In his artistic practice, Ľubomír Kralovič (* 1996) continuously and consistently focuses on the portrayal of the human – specifically male – figure. However, this is not a straightforward exploration of physiology and the general archetype of the human body.

The abstracted male figure is a substitute symbol and a tool for exploring specific memories from the artist’s childhood and the phenomenon of memory in general. The focus of the project is partly introspective and very personal; Kralovič’s treatment of the concrete appearance of his sculpture-puppets is based on his own physical form and on authentic memories of home as the embodiment of the security of a familiar and safe environment.

In his diploma project with the poetic title Memory Loop (2023), the author builds on his previous work and approaches a complex interconnection of the existing partial themes and physical forms. He combines fragments of memories processed in earlier outputs, such as his bachelor’s thesis project, in which Kralovič created an almost life-size sculpture of a father and son under the title Inner Self-Portrait (2020–2021).

While the previous projects were mostly intuitive creations with the intention of trying, discovering and understanding, in this thesis the effort is to organise the knowledge on the topic into a meaningful whole. The resulting spatial installation created on the basis of virtual 3D models is a collage of several of the author’s familiar places-rooms “reconstructed” into the presented form purely on the basis of the mental image of the memory of these places. The form of the thesis is dreamlike, unreal, as the mental image of the place appears to be. This unreality, artificiality and dreaminess is enhanced by the concept of the exhibition environment, in which, apart from the sculptures themselves, which are purposefully schematised and materially flattened, there are as few other distracting elements as possible. Ľubomír Kralovič is a graduate of Sculpture Studio 1 at the FFA BUT under the supervision of Michal Gabriel.

Klára Lázničková Klára Lázničková (* 1995) pracuje v médiu malby, kresby, ilustrace, performance a poezie. Její široký intermediální přístup spojuje zájem o procesy lidského chování, ať už na rovině osobní, nebo celospolečenské. Svými pracemi se snaží rozkrýt, na jakých principech funguje člověk jako utvářející člen společnosti, odkud pramení jeho smýšlení o environmentálních tématech a přístup k ekologii nebo zažité sociální role, přičemž se pro rozkrytí společenských stereotypů často vrací do dětských let. Ve svých sériích dává vzniknout hypotetickým či dystopickým vizím ohledně možné podoby budoucího světa.

Diplomová práce Pohádka (2023) zahrnuje performativní práci s básní jako deníkovým záznamem a s jeho sdílením. V rámci projektu nabízela Lázničková ke sdílení několik svých narativních básní psaných pohádkovým jazykem, které soustavně vytvářela poslední dva roky. Básně vznikaly primárně jako forma sebeterapie, jsou odrazem určitého životního období autorky. Spontánní volba pohádkového narativu ji zpětně přivedla k hloubkové analýze, do jaké míry nás tradiční pohádkové příběhy, jejich postavy a vztahy (princ, princezna, útrapy, svatba) ovlivňují v dospělosti.

Lázničková se zamýšlí nejen nad biopolitickou mocí pohádek, ale především je popisuje jako možný nástroj ke stvrzování pasivního přijetí zažitých vzorců v mezilidských vztazích a tradičních genderových rolí a jako potenciální zdroj pro vznik psychopatologie osobnosti. Na příkladu pohádkového pojetí vztahu prince a princezny, jako hrdiny a trpící ženy, se věnuje otázce partnerských vztahových vazeb, dotýká se jejich toxické podoby například i při problematice domácího násilí. Participativním přístupem, kdy oslovila své širší okolí, aby k jednotlivým částem básní vytvořili ilustraci, prohlubuje terapeutický akt sdílení a řeší schopnosti a možnosti mezilidské interakce a spolupráce.

Klára Lázničková absolvovala bakalářské studium v Ateliéru malba 1 na Fakultě umění Ostravské univerzity pod vedením Daniela Balabána. V současnosti dokončuje magisterská studia ve stejném ateliéru a zároveň v Ateliéru environmentu na FaVU VUT v Brně u Barbory Klímové a Matěje Smetany. V průběhu studia absolvovala na stejné škole stáže v Ateliéru malířství 2 u Luďka Rathouského, v Ateliéru intermédií u Pavla Sterce a v Ateliéru malířství 3 u Patricie Fexové. Byla zakládající členkou umělecké skupiny Global Genocide Inc. (Martin Žák, Klára Lázničková, Jonáš Svoboda, Andreas Gajdošík a Daniel Nováček; 2019–2022), která se skrze performance, happeningy a intervence ve veřejném prostoru zaměřovala především na environmentálně a politicky angažované umění.

S Global Genocide Inc. byla součástí skupinových výstav, například Unscrupulous, Photogether gallery, Zlín (2021); Tady a teď!, Dům umění města Brna, Brno (2021); Konečná řešení dětských otázek, Billboart Gallery, FUD UJEP, Ústí nad Labem (2020); Comfort balcony, Důl Michal, Ostrava (2020). Je členkou skupiny Tchibo Family.

Anežka Chalupová

Klára Lázničková (* 1995) works in the areas of painting, drawing, illustration, performance and poetry. Her broad intermedia approach is united by her interest in the processes of human behaviour, both on a personal and social level. Through her works she tries to reveal the principles on which humans function as formative members of society; the origins of their thoughts about environmental issues, their attitudes to ecology and experienced social roles, often going back to their childhood to reveal social stereotypes. In her series she gives rise to hypothetical or dystopian visions of the possible shape of the future world.

Lázníčková’s diploma thesis Fairy Tale (2023) involves performative work with a poem; using it as a diary record and sharing it.

As part of the project, Lázničková offered to share several of her narrative poems which were written in a fairy tale language that she has been creating and updating over the last two years. The poems were created primarily as a form of self-therapy, reflecting a certain period in the author’s life. Her spontaneous choice of fairy tale narrative led her to an in-depth analysis of the extent to which traditional fairy tale stories, their characters and relationships (prince, princess, hardships, wedding) influence us in adulthood. Lázničková not only reflects on the biopolitical power of fairy tales, but above all describes them as possible instruments used to confirm the passive acceptance of experienced patterns in interpersonal relationships and traditional gender roles, and as potential sources for the emergence of personality psychopathology. Using the example of the fairy tale concept in the relationship between the prince and the princess, as a hero and a sufferer, she addresses the issue of partner relationships, touching on their toxic forms, for example the issue of domestic violence. Through a participatory approach, reaching out to people from her wider community interested in creating illustrations for individual sections of the poems, she deepens the therapeutic act of sharing and addresses the capacities and possibilities of interpersonal interaction and collaboration.

Klára Lázničková completed her bachelor’s studies in the Painting Studio 1 at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Ostrava under the supervision of Daniel Balabán. She is currently completing her master’s studies in the same studio and in the Environment Studio at the FFA BUT under the supervision of Barbora Klímová and Matěje Smetana. During her studies, she completed internships in the Painting Studio 2 (FFA BUT) under Luděk Rathouský, in the Intermedia Studio (FFA BUT) under Pavel Sterec and in the Painting Studio 3 (FFA BUT) under Patricie Fexová. She was a founding member of the art group Global Genocide Inc. Vojtěch Luksch Pro tvorbu Vojtěcha Luksche (* 1992) jsou hlavním námětovým zdrojem počítačové hry. Vybírá si z nich jednotlivé záběry, které převádí do malířské podoby. Výrazově jeho díla přímo odkazují k hernímu prostředí se specifickou grafikou, někdy u nich ponechává postavy a objekty z daných her a zachycuje ironické i drastické děje příběhu, kterého je jako hráč součástí. Jindy se soustředí hlavně na volné krajiny a přírodní prostranství, jejichž podobu vyplývající z nedokonalosti grafiky záměrně zbavuje všech dalších herních prvků. Digitální estetika je pro něj přirozeným nástrojem, pomocí něhož zkoumá podstatu malby. Nejčastěji maluje na překližky nebo plátno, někdy digitální vizualitu přenáší na vyšívaný podklad. Vybírá si hry z přelomu milénia, které pro něj mají osobní rozměr a zároveň splňují požadavky nedokonalé grafiky s přírodou rozdělenou do fragmentů, s hranatými objekty a podivnými úhly pohledů.

Diplomová práce Edges of Cedar Grove (2023) navazuje na Lukschovy poslední práce, u kterých se soustředí na digitální přírodu. Motivy obrazů pocházejí především z her série Grand Theft Auto, kde díky volnému pohybu v krajině může on sám náměty a kompozice hledat. Malby vykazují prvky plochosti, geometrie a fragmentárnosti přímo odkazující k herní grafice. Jsou to zároveň prostředky, které ho zajímají i v souvislosti s malířskými směry přelomu 19. a 20. století, převážně s tvorbou Paula Cézanna. V jeho pojetí současné krajinomalby se tak spojuje digitální estetika s přímým odkazem k modernistickým malbám. Ve vyprázdněné, jednoduché a geometrické přírodě nachází Luksch určitý druh romantismu a skrze specifickou krajinu se vrací zpět do svého alternativního domova. Záměrem autora je tvorba virtuálního plenéru, pro který sám používá název e-plenér.

Vojtěch Luksch je absolventem v Ateliéru malířství 1 na FaVU VUT v Brně u Vasila Artamonova. Byl součástí skupinových výstav SEFT vol. 4, SEFT, Brno (2022); IDDQD, Galerie ART, Brno (2021); 4+4 dny v pohybu, Strašnická škola, Praha (2021); Faunův džíp vol. 2, Galerie Orlických hor, Rychnov nad Kněžnou (2021) nebo Revitalizace, Galerie Znak, Praha (2019) a dalších. V roce 2022 byl nominovaný na Cenu kritiky za mladou malbu, kde získal cenu sympatie.

For Vojtěch Luksch (* 1992) computer games are the main source of his work. He chooses individual images from them, which he transforms into paintings. In terms of expression, his works directly refer to the game environment with specific graphics, sometimes leaving the characters and objects in the games and capturing the ironic and drastic events of the story he is part of as a player.

At other times he mainly focuses on open landscapes and natural spaces, the form of which, resulting from the imperfection of the graphics, is deliberately stripped of all other game features.

For Luksch, digital aesthetics is a natural tool through which he explores the essence of painting. Most often he paints on plywood or canvas, sometimes transferring the digital visuality to an embroidered background. He chooses games from the turn of the millennium, which for him have a personal dimension while meeting the requirements of imperfect graphics with landscapes divided into fragments, with angular objects and strange angles of view.

Luksch’s diploma thesis Edges of Cedar Grove (2023) is a continuation of his recent work, in which he focuses on digital landscapes. The motifs of the paintings mainly come from the Grand Theft Auto series of games, where he can search for themes and compositions thanks to the free movement in the landscape. The paintings exhibit elements of flatness, geometry and fragmentation directly referring to game graphics. They also interest him in relation to the painting movements from the turn of the 20th century, mainly the work of Paul Cézanne. His conception of contemporary landscape painting thus combines digital aesthetics with a direct reference to modernist paintings. In the empty, simple and geometric landscape, Luksch finds a kind of romanticism and through a specific landscape he returns to his alternative home. The artist’s intention is to create a virtual plein air painting, for which he uses the term e-plenair.

Vojtěch Luksch is a graduate of the Painting Studio 1 at the FFA BUT under Vasil Artamonov. He has been part of the group exhibitions SEFT vol. 4, SEFT, Brno (2022); IDDQD, ART Gallery, Brno (2021); 4+4 Days in Motion, Strašnická škola, Prague (2021); The Faun’s Jeep vol. 2, Orlické hory Gallery, Rychnov nad Kněžnou (2021), and Revitalization, Znak Gallery, Prague (2019), among others. Nela Maruškevič Nela Maruškevič (* 1998) se zabývá médiem malby, specificky citlivým malířstvím v rozšířeném poli závěsného obrazu. Oprošťuje se od přímých odkazů na vnější krajinu, která je jejím nejdůležitějším inspiračním zdrojem, a převádí ji do členěné abstraktní plochy až do archetypálního obrazového zobrazení. Její vztah k přírodě graduje k intenzivnímu vnitřnímu prožitku, který však divákům*divačkám nepodbízí. Dává jim naopak prostor, aby její cykly maleb uchopili prostřednictvím své vlastní interpretace, která se sice stává osobní zpovědí, ale zároveň zasazuje její díla do širšího kontextu efemérních pocitů a tělesných dějů v člověku.

Diplomová práce Maruškevič Při vpuštění světla do pokoje (2023) vyniká vnitřní soudržností a krajní citlivostí, která se mísí již ve vybraném autorčině materiálu. Za působení malby, textilu, přízí, nitek a skla dává možnosti zobrazení v průniku a průchodu prostory, které se setkávají v trojrozměrném uskupení vně obrazu a proudí ven v pohybu energií. Cyklus maleb středního formátu nevzniká na základě rozumového konceptu. Krajina zde stejně jako v předchozích pracích funguje jako hlavní esence fragmentů, které mají návaznost na autorčiny niterné prožitky. Ze závěsného klasického média malby tak vychází morfologie změti dalších materiálů (převážně nitek), které se lineárně spojují někde v kosmickém prostoru galerie v podobě organického skleněného tvaru určitých buněk.

Její rukopis se odráží v gestické kompozici organických ploch s jemným efektem rozpíjené barevnosti a ohraničených exaktních lineárních prvků příze na plátně, které nám připomínají zhmotnění meditace, ticha či určitého bezčasí.

Nela Maruškevič absolvovala Ateliér malířství 2 u Luďka Rathouského na FaVU VUT v Brně. Součástí studia byla zahraniční stáž na lotyšské Akademii umění v Rize. Během studia vystavovala v lokální jablonecké Galerii Kaplička, v Seidlově vile ve Ždánicích, také v Liberci a participovala na festivalu Tehláreň v Liptovském Mikuláši na Slovensku. Aktuální tvorbu prezentovala v Distillery a galerii SOLO offspace v Brně nebo galerii Jelení v Praze.

Tea Záchová

Nela Maruškevič (* 1998) deals with the medium of painting, specifically, sensitive painting in the expanded field of the hung picture.

She frees herself from direct references to the external landscape, which is her most important source of inspiration, and transforms it into a structured abstract surface, even into an archetypal pictorial representation. Her relationship with nature progresses to an intense inner experience. However, she does not pander to the viewers. Rather, she gives them space to grasp her cycles of paintings through their own interpretations, which, while becoming personal confessions, also place her works in the broader context of the ephemeral feelings and bodily processes of the human being.

Her diploma thesis When Letting Light into a Room (2023) stands out for its internal coherence and extreme sensitivity, which are already combined in the author’s chosen material. Under the influence of painting, textiles, yarns, threads and glass, she shows the possibilities of representation in the intersections and passages through spaces that meet in a three-dimensional grouping outside the painting, and flow outwards in a movement of energies. Her series of medium-format paintings is not based on a rational concept. There, as in her previous works, the landscape functions as the main essence of fragments that have a connection to the artist’s inner experiences. From the hung classical medium of painting thus emerges a morphology of a jumble of other materials (mostly threads) that linearly join somewhere in the cosmic space of the gallery in the form of organic glass shapes of certain cells. Her handwriting is reflected in the gestural composition of organic surfaces with the subtle effect of diffused colour and the bounded exact linear elements of yarn on canvas, which evoke the materialisation of meditation, silence, and a certain timelessness.

Nela Maruškevič graduated from Painting Studio 2 under Luděk Rathouský at the FFA BUT. Her studies also included an internship at the Latvian Academy of Arts in Riga. She has exhibited at the Jablonec Kaplička Gallery, at Seidl Villa in Ždánice and in Liberec. She participated in the Tehláreň Festival in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia. She has also presented her current work at the Distillery and SOLO offspace Gallery in Brno and at the Jelení Gallery in Prague.

Mário Nguyen Mário Nguyen (* 1992) pracuje převážně objektově a sochařsky.

Ve své tvorbě vychází z klasičtějších figurálních motivů, speciálně potom v soše a 3D animaci. V posledních letech se uchyluje zvláště k práci v prostoru s mnohovrstevnatými materiály a práci s objektovou instalací. Tak tomu je například v projektu pod názvem Heavy Light Weight (2020), kde k vytvoření díla využívá kinetickou interaktivní instalaci. Jedná se o dva železné objekty připomínající ptačí pera, které jsou obklopené několika tisíci bambusových tyček.

Autor zde pracuje s ambivalencí lehkosti ptačího pírka v kontrastu s fyzickou tíhou kovového materiálu, ze kterého je vyrobeno. Instalaci tvoří dva šedesátikilové objekty ptačích per, visící přímo nad hlavami diváků*divaček, kteří sami mohou zatáhnout za rukojeť visící v prostoru. Instalace pojednává o tzv. efektu motýlích křídel. Tato symbolika se zde objevuje jako metafora tématu duševního zdraví a jeho křehkosti, je-li narušen i jen zlomek toho, co by osoba bez psychických obtíží mohla považovat za standardní. Instalace tak navozuje pocity strachu a nechává diváctvo nahlédnout do prožívání pocitů úzkosti a těžkosti. Projekt vychází z původní instalace pod názvem Living Space (2016), ve které autor opět použil bambusová brčka tvořící geometrické obrazce v prostoru galerie či také v obytných prostorách. Součástí byla performance, v níž se objevila postava držící dvě zářící světla, která v instalaci tančila. Jednalo se o spojení monumentálních rozměrů instalace s její křehkou zpracovaností.

Instalace částečně navazovala na motivy bakalářské práce s názvem Katarze Múzy (2018). Zde autor našel inspiraci v reflexi svých vlastních emocí, které se odrážejí v jeho následných uměleckých postupech. Vytvořil objekt, sousoší do sebe vzájemně zapletených ženských těl. Každá část představuje fyzickou podobu jedné ze tří fází procesu tvorby. První fází je rezignace tvořit či cokoliv vytvářet, k čemuž se pojí také frustrace a úzkost. Druhou fází je rozhněvanost a vzdor vůči tvůrčímu procesu, ale také pomalu bující pocit odhodlanosti.

Třetí fází je konečné uvolnění a obrovská úleva, která postavu postupně vyvazuje z pout. Monumentální figurální instalace připomíná spíše hybridní tělo. Celá socha je zavěšená v prostoru několik metrů nad zemí.

Figurální aspekty sochařské praxe uplatnil Nguyen také v práci s názvem Svítíš před očima slepců (2013), kterou vystavil jako veřejnou intervenci na tabuli autobusové zastávky. Zde se zajímá o téma materialismu či konzumerismu a sprejuje bílé masce přes oči vrstvu černého spreje. Popisuje tak práci jako společenskou ztrátu kulturních a duševních hodnot a nasazuje masku nad hlavy lidí čekajících na spoj.

Mário Nguyen studoval v letech 2014 až 2018 na katedře Socha, objekt a instalace v ateliéru Socha v 3D virtuálním prostoru a architektuře na Akademii výtvarných umění a designu v Bratislavě pod vedením Patrika Kovačovského. Je absolventem Ateliéru sochařství 1 u Michala Gabriela a Tomáše Medka na FaVU VUT v Brně.

Natálie Kubíková

Mário Nguyen (* 1992) works mainly with objects and sculpture.

His work is based on rather classical figurative motifs, especially in sculpture and 3D animation. In recent years he has focused on working in spaces with multi-layered materials and object installation, as in the project titled Heavy Light Weight (2020), where he uses a kinetic interactive installation. This involves two iron objects resembling bird feathers surrounded by several thousand bamboo sticks. The artist works with the ambivalence of the lightness of the bird feathers in contrast to the physical weight of the metal material out of which they are made. The installation consists of two sixty-kilo bird feather objects hanging directly above the heads of the viewers, and the viewers can pull a handle hanging in the space. The installation deals with the so-called butterfly effect.

This symbolism appears here as a metaphor for the theme of mental health and its fragility when even a fraction of what a normal person might consider standard is disturbed. Thus, the installation evokes feelings of fear and allows the audience a glimpse into the experiences of people with feelings of anxiety and dejection.

The project is based on an original installation titled Living Space (2016), in which the artist again used bamboo straws to form geometric shapes in a gallery space, as well as in living spaces. It included a performance in which a figure holding two glowing lights appeared to dance in the installation. It was a combination of the monumental dimensions of the installation with its fragile elaboration.

The installation was partly based on the motifs of his bachelor thesis titled Catharsis of the Muse (2018). There, the artist found inspiration in the reflection of his own emotions, which is reflected in his subsequent artistic approaches. He has created an object, a sculpture of female bodies entangled in each other. Each part represents the physical form of one of the three phases of the creation process. The first phase is the resignation to create anything, which is accompanied by frustration and anxiety. The second phase is anger and defiance towards the creative process, but also a slowly building sense of determination. The third phase is the final freedom and immense relief that gradually unties the figure. The monumental figurative installation is more like a hybrid body. The entire sculpture is suspended in space several metres above the ground.

Nguyen has also applied figurative aspects of sculptural practice in a work titled You Shine Before the Eyes of the Blind (2013), which he exhibited as a public intervention on a bus stop sign. He explored the theme of materialism or consumerism, spraying a layer of black spray paint over the white mask’s eyes. In doing so, he described the work as a social loss of cultural and spiritual values, and placed the mask over the heads of the people waiting for the bus.

Mário Nguyen studied from 2014 to 2018 at the Department of Sculpture, Object and Installation in the Studio of Sculpture in 3D Virtual Space and Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava under the supervision of Patrik Kovačovský.

He is a graduate of Sculpture Studio 1 under Michal Gabriel and Tomáš Medek at the FFA BUT.

Pavla Nikitina Pavla Nikitina (* 1997) formálně vychází z čistého klasického sochařství. Srdcem její umělecké praxe je práce s médiem plastiky, ke které využívá moderní materiály a nové technologie, jako je 3D modelování a tisk. K tradici historicky prověřeného tvarosloví přidává psychologický a sociální přesah, pramenící ze současného vnímání světa v médiu sochy.

Autorka ve své práci často reflektuje historické tendence a odkazy na moderní umění, které následně zhmotňuje ve svých plastikách. Taková práce je např. NO PERFORMANCE TODAY (2020–2022), ve které vychází z obrazu od Toyen Relache (1943).

Základní východisko představovala tíživá situace v době pandemie, která nás všechny izolovala do soukromých prostorů, jež nebylo možné narušit. Uvězněna, někdy v apatii, někdy v nudě, autorka vyjádřila své pocity skrze zhmotnění 3D verze sebe sama do plastiky otočené vzhůru nohama, která reflektuje známý obraz surrealistické malířky. Důležitou prací v rámci bakalářského studia bylo dílo 5 minut (2019), které se pak stalo i signifikantním východiskem pro práci diplomovou. Nikitina se zajímala o válečné veterány, kteří se dobrovolně přihlásili na frontu, a o následky traumat, ze kterých se léčí. Vzniklo tak 25 sošek z 3D tisku pomocí ručního skenování zraněných vojáků v rehabilitačním centru v Kyjevě. Cílem bylo vyprávět příběh obyčejných lidí, kteří se následkem válečného konfliktu odosobňují do podoby pouhých čísel. S nedokonalostmi těl, s defekty, které nebylo možné naskenovat, se autorka následně popasovala po svém – domodelovala chybějící části. Plastika tak je zde pouze formou, jež přehrává angažovaný příběh reportáže o válečných veteránech, kteří šli dobrovolně chránit svoji vlast. Socha a 3D skenování jsou zde pouhým nástrojem, který autorka využívá jako sociologickou sondu z místa, kam by se obyčejný smrtelník jen těžko dostával.

Název diplomové práce Otužilí sirénami (2023) komentuje příběhy z rusko-ukrajinské války od roku 2022. Tato sochařská realizace na základě 3D skenů generuje sochy z reportáže o událostech způsobených válkou. Nikitina se mimo jiné zaměřila i na samotný termín 3D reportáž a možnosti, které jí jako umělkyni pracující na hranici žánru reportáže a sociálního dokumentu poskytuje. Naproti sobě stojící sochy tak mezi sebou vytvářejí dialog.

Pavla Nikitina absolvovala magisterské studium v Ateliéru sochařství 1 u Michala Gabriela a Tomáše Medka na FaVU VUT v Brně. V roce 2022 byla finalistkou umělecké ceny PinchukArtCentre Prize v Kyjevě a o rok dříve získala Cenu pro mladé ukrajinské umělce Grand Prix, MUHI. Absolvovala uměleckou rezidenci v Černé Hoře, kde je zastoupena v tamější sbírce Národního muzea (2019, Cetinje). Během studia vystavovala na skupinových výstavách nejen v České republice (Prototyp Festival, Brno; Muzeum umění a designu, Benešov; Dům umění, Ústí nad Labem), ale také v zahraničí – ve Francii (In progress: MUHi 2021 Cena finalistů, Ukrajinské kulturní centrum, Paříž), v Polsku (Art War, Dom Innowacji Spolecznych, Varšava) či na Ukrajině (United, PinchukArtCentre, Kyjev).

Tea Záchová

Pavla Nikitina (* 1997) formally draws on pure classical sculpture.

The essence of her artistic practice is working with the medium of sculpture, for which she uses modern materials and new technologies such as 3D modelling and printing. She adds psychological and social dimensions to the tradition of historically tested morphology, stemming from the contemporary perception of the world in the medium of sculpture.

In her work the artist often reflects on historical tendencies and references to modern art, which she then materialises in her sculptures. One such work is NO PERFORMANCE TODAY (2020–2022), which is based on a painting by Toyen titled Relache (1943). Her basic starting point was the situation caused by the pandemic, which isolated all of us in private spaces that could not be disturbed. Trapped, sometimes in apathy, sometimes in boredom, the artist expressed her feelings through the materialisation of a 3D version of herself in an upside-down sculpture that echoes the famous image of the surrealist painter. An important work, which would later be a significant starting point for her diploma thesis, was the work titled 5 Minutes (2019), which was created as part of her bachelor’s studies. Nikitina was interested in the war veterans who volunteered to go to the front, and the effects of the traumas from which they were healing. This resulted in twenty-five 3D printed sculptures that were created by hand-scanning the injured soldiers at a rehabilitation centre in Kiev. The aim was to tell the story of ordinary people who, as a result of the war, are reduced to mere numbers. The author then dealt with the imperfections of the bodies, the defects that could not be scanned—modelling the missing parts. There, the sculpture is only a form replaying the committed story of reportage about war veterans—living beings who volunteered to protect their homeland. The sculpture and 3D scanning are merely a tool that the artist uses as a sociological probe from a place where an ordinary mortal would have a hard time to get to.

The title of the diploma work, Hardened by Sirens (2023), comments on stories from the Russian-Ukrainian war. It becomes a sculptural project that generates sculptures based on 3D scans from reportage of the events caused by the war. Among other things, Nikitina also focuses on the term 3D reportage and the possibilities it provides her as an artist working on the border of the genres of reportage and social documentary. The sculptures standing opposite each other thus create a dialogue between them.

Pavla Nikitina completed her master’s studies in Sculpture Studio 1 under Michal Gabriel and Tomáš Medek at the FFA BUT. In 2022 she was a finalist in the PinchukArtCentre Prize in Kiev and a year earlier she won the Grand Prix for Young Ukrainian Artists, MUHi. She completed an internship in Montenegro, where she is represented in the collection of the National Museum (2019, Cetinje). During her studies she exhibited in group exhibitions not only in the Czech Republic (Prototyp Festival, Brno; Museum of Art and Design, Benešov; House of Arts, Ústí nad Labem), but also abroad; in France (In progress: MUHi 2021 Finalists Award, Ukrainian Cultural Centre, Paris), Poland (Art War, Dom Innowacji Spolecznych, Warsaw), and Ukraine (United, PinchukArtCentre, Kiev).

Markéta Olšarová Markéta Olšarová (* 1998) se ve své intermediální tvorbě pohybuje napříč spektrem umělecké tvorby a edukace. Mezi médii, v nichž tvoří, převažuje zejména performance, video, objekt nebo specifická práce se světlem a kontrasty, ze kterých následně vytváří komplexní instalace a imerzní prostory. Její praxe je založena na pečlivé rešerši daného tématu, kterou dále kombinuje s osobními zkušenostmi a východisky. Ty jsou zpravidla experimentální, zpracované s důrazem na vizuální složku, jejímž výsledkem je bezprostřední emocionální a smyslový divácký zážitek.

Ve svém bakalářském projektu Hodně kýče (2021) rozvinula Olšarová sociální aspekt uvažování se zájmem o členy rodiny a domácí prostředí skrze řadu kýčovitých předmětů. Výsledná prostorová instalace využívá sbírku drobných keramických slonů autorčiny babičky, která je aranžérským způsobem vyskládaná na velkých skleněných tabulích. Líbeznost keramických figurek stojí v přímém kontrastu ke skleněným střepům, které dávají celé instalaci prvky agresivity a způsobují zvláštní napětí mezi přehnanou estetikou figurek a potenciálem možného nebezpečí. Všudypřítomný kontrast estetické líbeznosti a fyzické zranitelnosti je umocněný světelným zdrojem, který instalaci pomocí odrazů a zrcadlení dále násobí. Zájem vytvářet napětí mezi bezpečným a nebezpečným, libým a dezorientujícím se promítá i do autorčiny diplomové práce nazvané Prostor vnímání (2023), ve které se zaměřuje na problematiku místně specifické instalace v rámci negalerijních prostorů.

Středobodem práce je interaktivní luminiscenční prostředí a divákův fyzický zážitek, vycházející z napětí mezi světlem, tmou a kontrasty v prostoru. Olšarová navazuje na tradici uměleckých instalací, které jsou založené na smyslovém vnímání a balancování na hranici reality a fikce, jako jsou například práce Olafura Eliassona nebo v českém kontextu práce Pavla Korbičky.

Vedle vlastní umělecké tvorby spolupracuje Olšarová na mnoha dílnách a vzdělávacích projektech, jako příklad lze zmínit workshop Město, krajina v kulisách, který vedla společně s Lucií Jasparovou u příležitosti Divadelního festivalu DVD v Praze (2022).

V rámci Brno Art Week (2021) představila interaktivní instalaci, ve které pracuje s recyklovanými materiály, světlem a prostorem.

Světelná instalace navazuje na její diplomový projekt a představuje městskou noční krajinu plnou světel a stínů, která návštěvníka nabádá k interakci. Práce s dětmi je důležitou součástí autorčiny umělecké praxe. Dětem chce předávat nejen vlastní radost z tvorby, ale snaží se je hravou formou inspirovat k přemýšlení nad otázkami spojenými se širšími společenskými problémy jako například recyklací a ochranou životního prostředí.

Markéta Olšarová absolvovala bakalářský program v Ateliéru performance u Tomáše Rullera na FaVU VUT v Brně. Je absolventkou Ateliéru sochařství 2 pod vedením Jana Ambrůze a Pavla Korbičky. Absolvovala stáže v Ateliéru environmentu u Barbory Klímové a Matěje Smetany a v Ateliéru sochařství 2 pod vedením Jana Ambrůze a Pavla Korbičky. Svou práci doposud představovala především v rámci performativních projektů, například během pražské výstavy Pokoje (2019), ve Veletržním paláci v Praze (2019) nebo v Galerii Pakosta v Litomyšli (2020).

Eva Drexlerová

Markéta Olšarová’s (* 1998) intermedia work ranges across the spectrum of artistic creation and education. The media in which she works are dominated by performance, video, object and specific work with light and contrasts, from which she subsequently creates complex installations and immersive spaces. Her practice is based on careful research into a subject matter and she further combines this with her personal experiences and background.

These are usually experimental, developed with an emphasis on the visual component, and resulting in an immediate emotional and sensory experience for the viewer.

In her bachelor project A Lot of Kitsch (2021), Olšarová developed the social aspect of thinking with concern about family members and the home environment through a series of kitsch objects. The resulting spatial installation makes use of her grandmother’s collection of small ceramic elephants arranged on large glass panels. The prettiness of the ceramic figurines is in direct contrast to the glass shards which lend an element of aggression to the entire installation, creating a strange tension between the exaggerated aesthetics of the figurines and the potential for danger. The omnipresent contrast of aesthetic prettiness and physical vulnerability is further enhanced by the light source, which multiplies the installation through reflections and mirroring. The interest in creating tension between the safe and the dangerous, the pleasurable and the disorienting, is also reflected in the author’s diploma thesis titled Space of Perception (2023), in which she focuses on the issue of site-specific installations in non-gallery spaces. At the centre of the work is an interactive luminescent environment and the viewer’s physical experience, based on the tension between light, darkness and contrast in the space. Olšarová follows the tradition of art installations based on sensory perception and balancing on the border between reality and fiction, such as the works of Olafur Eliasson and, in the Czech context, those of Pavel Korbička.

In addition to her own artistic work, Olšarová collaborates on many workshops and educational projects, such as the workshop City, Landscape in Scenery, which she conducted with Lucie Jasparová at the Prague Theatre DVD Festival (2022). During Brno Art Week (2021) she presented an interactive installation in which she worked with recycled materials, light and space. The light installation is a continuation of her diploma project and presents an urban nightscape full of lights and shadows that encourage visitors to interact. Working with children is an important part of her artistic practice. Not only does she want to convey to children her own joy at creating, but she also tries to inspire them in a playful way to think about issues related to broader social issues such as recycling and protection of the environment.

Markéta Olšarová studied at the Performance Studio under Tomáš Ruller at the FFA BUT. She completed internships in the Environment Studio under Barbora Klímová and Matěj Smetana and in the Sculpture Studio 2 under Jan Ambrůz and Pavel Korbička. She has mainly presented her work in the framework of performative projects, for example, during the exhibition Rooms in Prague (2019), at the Trade Fair Palace in Prague (2019) and at the Pakosta Gallery in Litomyšl (2020).

Martin Pfann Martin Pfann (* 1990) se ve své diplomové práci Beze stopy (2023) vztahuje k odkazu antifašistického odboje na Vysočině. Jeho výchozím médiem se stává samotná krajina, kterou rozpoznává jako svébytné úložiště či nosič paměti. Uchyluje se přitom k celé řadě nástrojů, jejichž pomocí sestavuje jakousi alternativní kartografii.

Svou vzpomínkovou stezku po stopách pozapomenutého romského partyzána Josefa Serinka, Františka Hyšky a dalších znovuobjevených dohledatelných i anonymních postav z řad místního obyvatelstva zachycuje do mapy a doprovází audioprůvodcem.

Své objevy i své zásahy do krajiny navíc dokumentuje na YouTube a na Instagramu. Další sociální síť potom splétá přímo v terénu, když zve své známé ke společnému kopání památeční zemljanky a když se setkává s místním obyvatelstvem i se zástupci*zástupkyněmi institucí, které by mohly zaštítit kodifikaci oficiální turistické trasy.

Vzpomínání na antifašistický odboj bylo selektivní a tendenční před rokem 1989 i po něm. Ani Pfann nenabízí objektivní přístup.

Zato předkládá takovou selekci a takové tendence, které mají napomoct vědomému utváření určité „představy společenství“.

Nestopuje přitom jen kolektivní paměť odboje, ale i osobní vzpomínky na dětství, které na Vysočině strávil. Oklikou tak nachází cestu k protestantskému prostředí, v němž vyrůstal a jež o půlstoletí dřív poskytovalo důležité podloží protinacistickému vzdoru.

V dalším plánu Pfannova partyzánská stezka představuje dosavadní vyústění jeho nejen umělecké dráhy. Sám své někdejší studium romistiky popisuje jako návod, jak vzít vážně zkušenost „těch druhých“ a jak se orientovat v teritoriu mezi pamětí a historií.

Podobně v řadě odboček navazuje na svoje starší práce, jejichž pozadí tvoří řada kolektivních počinů více méně aktivistické povahy. Údernickou svépomocnou osvětu rozvíjel už v podobě památníku-přednášky na počest odbojářky Marie Sedláčkové (Marie Sedláčková Memorial, 2019). Jeho diplomový projekt Without a trace (2023) by se ale dal spojit s dalšími pracemi, v nichž se s performativní nadsázkou vymezoval vůči jistým politickým polohám (Right Angle Yoga, 2022) nebo testoval nepohodlnost chlapáckých a národoveckých stereotypů (Pride, 2018). Tentokrát však míří k jinému vyznění, když usiluje o pozitivní identifikaci, a dokonce i o přijetí určitého patosu. Přestože se Pfannova diplomová trasa opírá o LARP jako mobilizační strategii a politiku identit pojímá jako svého druhu RPG, poukazuje nakonec k východisku jak z melancholie radikální levice, tak z cynismu současného umění.

Vojtěch Märc

Martin Pfann (* 1990) deals with the legacy of the anti-fascist resistance in the Vysočina region in his diploma thesis Without a Trace (2023). His starting medium is the landscape itself, which he approaches with a variety of tools in order to construct a form of alternative cartography. His memorial trail—captured on a map and accompanied by an audio guide—is in the footsteps of the forgotten Romani partisan Josef Serinek, František Hyška and other rediscovered, traceable and anonymous figures from the local population. He also documents his discoveries and his interventions in the landscape on YouTube and Instagram. He then weaves another social network directly in the terrain, when he invites his friends to dig together at the memorial earthworks and when he meets with local residents and representatives of institutions that could sponsor the codification of an official tourist route.

Remembrance of the anti-fascist resistance was selective and biased before 1989, and it has remained so even after that time. Nor does Pfann offer an objective approach. Instead, he presents such a selection in a way that is intended to help the conscious formation of a certain “idea of community”. In doing so, he is not only tracing the collective memory of the resistance, but also personal memories from his childhood spent in the Vysočina region.

In a roundabout way he finds himself back in the Protestant environment in which he grew up and which, half a century earlier, had provided an important base for anti-Nazi resistance.

In another plan, Pfann’s partisan trail does not represent the culmination of his artistic career. He describes his former Romani studies as being a guide to taking seriously the experiences of “the others”, and how to navigate in the territory between memory and history. Similarly, in a series of digressions, he builds on his earlier works, the backdrop of which is a series of collective undertakings of a more or less activist nature. He has already developed a self-help education in the form of a memorial-lecture in honour of the resistance fighter Marie Sedláčková. His diploma project could be linked to other works in which he defined himself with performative hyperbole against certain political positions (Right Angle Yoga, 2022) and tested the non-comfortability of masculine and nationalist stereotypes (Pride, 2018). This time, however, he aims for a different tone, namely a positive identification and even an acceptance of a certain pathos. Although Pfann’s diploma route relies on LARP as a mobilisation strategy and he conceives identity politics as a kind of RPG, this ultimately points to a way out of both the melancholy of the radical left and the cynicism of contemporary art.

Lukáš Prokop Podle teoretika Simona O’Sullivana spočívá síla umění ve schopnosti překódovat dominantní pojetí reality a v síle vytvářet dříve neznámé alternativy. Podobná snaha je vlastní i práci Lukáše Prokopa (* 1997), který využívá produktivního potenciálu (sci-fi) fikce k budování nových světů, jež by přesahovaly mantinely známé antropogenní imaginace. Jeho díla [např. Whispers Divulging (2020) nebo Oozing Worlds into Being (2022)] těchto cizích sfér dosahují za pomoci spletitých tvůrčích strategií a experimentů s technologiemi zahrnujících postprocessing, generativní design či tvorbu s pseudonahodilým digitálním šumem. Současně se vymykají jednoduchým kategorizacím, neboť Prokopovi je vlastní oscilace mezi různými médii: subtilně spojuje práci s videem, grafikou, objektem, fotografií, textilem, psaním nebo digitálním tiskem.

Aktivním zapojením technologických kreativních procesů do tvorby Prokop taktéž záměrně problematizuje i svou autorskou roli jako výhradního producenta uměleckého obsahu/díla. Ukazuje nám, že tvůrce je součástí složitých a rozprostřených sítí, které se čím dál více organizují na osách optických kabelů či skrze strojové vidění. Jeho práce tak přivádí pozornost k působení technických zařízení a k vlivům, které mají na naše vnímání a chápání světa.

Důraz na dynamiku a tekutost těchto techno-lidských systémů znázorňuje i jeho proměnný umělecký pseudonym h5io6i54k, pod nímž – s vědomím nestálosti digitální identity – vystupuje jako VJ, grafik, umělec či tvůrce hudebních videí. V rámci diplomové výstavy představuje svůj závěrečný krátký videoesejistický film Concomitant Outgrowth Event (2023).

Lukáš Prokop je absolventem Ateliéru video u Martina Mazance a Jana Šrámka na FaVU VUT v Brně. Jeho díla byla vystavena v Galerii Mladých, Zaazrak|Dornych nebo Garage Gallery. According to theorist Simon O’Sullivan, the power of art lies in its ability to recode the dominant conception of reality and in its power to create previously unknown alternatives. A similar endeavour is inherent in the works of Lukáš Prokop (* 1997), who uses the productive potential of science fiction to build new worlds that transcend the confines of the familiar anthropogenic imagination. His works [e.g. Whispers Divulging (2020) and Oozing Worlds into Being (2022)] achieve these other spheres with the help of intricate creative strategies and experiments with technologies involving post-processing, generative design, and creation with pseudo-random digital noise. They also defy simple categorisations, because Prokop’s inherent oscillation between different media subtly combines work with video, graphics, objects, photography, textiles, writing and digital print.

By actively involving technological creative processes in his work, Prokop deliberately makes problematic his authorial role as the exclusive producer of artistic contents/works. He shows us that the creator is part of the complex and distributed networks that are increasingly organised on the axes of fibre-optic cables or through machine vision. His work thus brings our attention to the effects of technical devices and the effects they have on our perception and understanding of the world. The emphasis on the dynamics and fluidity of these techno-human systems is illustrated by his changing artistic pseudonym h5io6i54k, under which—knowing the fluidity of digital identity—he performs as a VJ, a graphic designer, an artist, and a music video maker. As part of the diploma exhibition, he presents his final short video essay film Concomitant Outgrowth Event (2023).

Lukáš Prokop is a graduate of the Video Studio under Martin Mazanec and Jan Šrámek at the FFA BUT. His works were exhibited at the Gallery of the Young, Zaazrak|Dornych, and the Garage Gallery. Svatopluk Ručka Svatopluk Ručka (* 1998) je grafický designér, který se pohybuje v rozšířeném poli vizuální komunikace. Ve své praxi propojuje užitou tvorbu, vizuální umění a módu. Skládání a vzájemné prolínání rozdílných přístupů mu umožňuje balancovat na hraně konceptuálního uvažování a funkčnosti. Syntézu různých uměleckých disciplín využívá jako nástroj při hledání finální podoby vlastních projektů.

Spojení grafického designu a módy se poprvé objevilo v jeho práci s názvem On-White (2018). Manifest v podobě textu částečně pokrýval bílou látku, ze které byla ušitá dlouhá volná róba. Modelka se stala ztělesněním řečnické figury. Šaty popisovaly šedou zónu mezi jednotlivými obory designu a zároveň byly tímto popisem samy pokryté. Konceptuální tautologie – šaty jako grafický design jako grafický design. Multidisciplinární iluze, která zpochybňovala sama sebe. Podobné téma rozvinul a posunul ve svém dalším projektu s názvem Silver Lining (2021). Umělecké gesto, které bylo v základu práce On-White, zde bylo podpořeno interdisciplinárním výzkumem. Spojením technologie pletení a současného vizuálního jazyka došlo k provázání grafického designu a módy. Výsledné textilie v sobě měly zakódovaný proces, který autora provázel po celou dobu výzkumu. Jeho snaha „designovat“ byla neustále konfrontována se získanými znalostmi a praktickou neznalostí. Tento dynamický proces byl vizualizován jako několik navzájem se protínajících linií, které se od designu vzdalovaly na obě strany a zase se k němu vracely. Na jednom pólu se linie dotýkaly nového interdisciplinárního vědění, na druhém pólu tečoval účinnou nevědomost. Projekt Silver Lining se v praxi pokusil ukázat, jak důležité je dopředu nepodceňovat zdánlivě slabá místa a jak pevné vazby vznikají teprve provázáním jednotlivých vláken. V rámci diplomové výstavy prezentuje Ručka svůj závěrečný projekt «Tu ne perds pas le Nord» (2023).

Svatopluk Ručka je absolventem Ateliéru grafického designu 2 u Denisy Kollarové, Jozefa Ondríka a Šárky Svobodové na FaVU VUT v Brně. Od roku 2017 spoluorganizuje přehlídku Malá noc módy v Brně. V roce 2019 absolvoval pracovní stáž ve studiu módní návrhářky Marine Serre v Paříži. Od roku 2023 se jako hlavní grafik podílí na vydávání magazínu CIRC. Jiří Havlíček

Svatopluk Ručka (* 1998) is a graphic designer who works in the expanded field of visual communication. His practice combines applied art, visual art and fashion. The composition and intermingling of different approaches allow him to balance on the edge of conceptual thinking and functionality. He uses a synthesis of different artistic disciplines as a tool in the search for the final form of his own projects.

The combination of graphic design and fashion first appeared in his work entitled On-White (2018). A manifesto in the form of text partially covered a white fabric, from which a long loose robe was made. The model became an embodiment of a figure of speech.

The dress described the grey zone between individual fields of design, while being covered by this description. A conceptual tautology—a dress as a graphic design as a graphic design. A multidisciplinary illusion that called itself into question. Ručka developed and expanded a similar theme in his next project titled Silver Lining (2021). The artistic gesture that was at the heart of the work On-White was supported by interdisciplinary research. By combining knitting technology and contemporary visual language, graphic design and fashion became intertwined. The resulting textiles had a process encoded within them that guided the artist throughout the research. His desire to “design” was constantly confronted with acquired knowledge and practical ignorance. This dynamic process was visualised as several intersecting lines that moved away from the design on both sides and returned to it again. At one pole the lines touched new interdisciplinary knowledge, at the other pole they touched effective ignorance. The Silver Lining project attempted to show in practice how important it is not to underestimate seemingly weak points, and how strong links are only created by interweaving individual threads. As part of the diploma exhibition, Ručka presents his final project «Tu ne perds pas le Nord» (2023).

Svatopluk Ručka is a graduate of the Graphic Design Studio 2 under Denisa Kollarová, Jozef Ondrík and Šarka Svobodová at the FFA BUT. Since 2017 he has been co-organising the Little Night of Fashion show in Brno. In 2019, he completed an internship at the studio of fashion designer Marine Serre in Paris. Since 2023, he has been involved in the publication of the CIRC magazine as a senior graphic designer.

Matěj Sláma Matěj Sláma (* 1996) pracuje s rozličnými médii a technologiemi na pomezí pohyblivého obrazu, zvuku, kresby a módy, ze kterých následně vytváří komplexní instalace a výstavní celky. Jednou z podstatných rovin jeho práce je performativita holičského a kadeřnického řemesla, ve které se zpravidla prolíná výzkumná složka s poetickou linií. Zvolenými postupy často inklinuje k deníkové formě záznamu a archivní práci, která mu slouží jako výchozí bod pro dekonstrukci sociálních konvencí a hledání nových východisek i jejich praktického využití. S tím také souvisí jeho zájem o řemeslnost a technickou zručnost zpracování, ať už v oblasti samotného kadeřnického řemesla, nebo umělecké manipulace v digitálním prostředí. Jeho práce je v tomto smyslu kritická vůči společensky uznávaným standardům a usiluje o konkrétní výstupy nad rámec galerijní prezentace.

Projekt Hair: Laboratory (2020) odráží Slámův dlouhodobý zájem o problematiku vlasů jako biologického materiálu a současně i společenského fenoménu, který se zásadně podílí na sociální konstrukci těla. Výrazná je zde autorova snaha o budování vlasové kartotéky, která navazuje na současné posthumanistické perspektivy a vnímá biologický materiál nejen jako individuální stopu, ale jako materiál kolektivní archeologie, který autor překládá pomocí kresby, softwarové vizualizace nebo skenů do informací – digitálních stop.

Výzkumný aspekt, připomínající mnohdy principy forenzní vědy, jde ruku v ruce s jeho výraznou citlivostí a osobní fascinací abnormálními tvary vlasů a tabuizovanými poruchami jejich růstu. Do centra Slámovy práce se tak dostávají estetické kvality blízké glitch artu, jehož specifický jazyk přispívá k hlubšímu porozumění kvalit, které jsou společensky vnímány jako degradované či vadné.

Technologický i mediální eklektismus je u Slámy impulzem k dalším výstupům, které se tematicky prolínají. Téma portrétní proměnlivosti a cyberface například rozpracoval ve fotografické sekvenci Hair: Patterns (2020) pro časopis Bublina. Tvůrčí zpracování nevyhnutelných „chyb“, které technologie generují, se promítá i do vizuálu triček navržených společně s Alexandrem Campazem a Lukášem Prokopem pro festival PAF Olomouc (2018). Jeho diplomová práce The Scar (2023) má podobná východiska. Sláma se v ní soustředí na zapomenutá městská zákoutí a pomocí 3D vizualizace vytváří hybridní prostředí, ve kterém se objektivní skutečnost prolíná s fiktivním světem vystavěném na autorské imaginaci.

Matěj Sláma je absolvent Ateliéru video u Martina Mazance a Jana Šrámka na FaVU VUT v Brně. Během studia absolvoval studijní stáže v Cooper Union v New York City a drážďanské Akademii výtvarných umění u Carstena Nicolaie. Svou práci představil například v pražské galerii Berlínskej model, ale také v zahraničí, například výstavu Leechin’ (2018) v univerzitní galerii Cooper Union v New Yorku.

Praktické zkušenosti sbíral také na rok a půl dlouhé stáži v galerii 1646 – Experimental Art Space v nizozemském Haagu. Vedle galerijního prostředí se pravidelně prezentuje ve veřejném prostoru, na klubové scéně i v rámci společných projektů, mj. s Lukášem Prokopem, tandemem Slama & Delong nebo s Klárou Fantovou.

Je součástí zlínsko-brněnského kolektivu Lofofora, kde spolupracuje na hudební dramaturgii a přípravách workshopů a festivalu.

Eva Drexlerová

Matěj Sláma (* 1996) works with various media and technologies on the border of moving image, sound, drawing and fashion, from all of which he subsequently creates complex installations and exhibition units. One of the essential levels of his work is the performativity of barbers’ and hairdressers’ crafts, in which the research component is usually intertwined with the poetic. His chosen methods often tend towards the diary form of recording and archival work, and these serve as his starting point for deconstructing social conventions and finding new starting points and their practical application. This also relates to the artist’s interest in craftsmanship and technical skill in processing, whether in the craft of hairdressing itself or artistic manipulation in a digital environment.

In this sense his work is critical of socially accepted standards and strives for concrete outcomes beyond the gallery presentation.

The project Hair: Laboratory (2020) reflects the artist’s long-standing interest in the issue of hair as a biological material and as a social phenomenon that fundamentally contributes to the social construction of the body. The author’s effort to build a hair card catalogue is quite distinctive, following contemporary posthumanist perspectives and perceiving biological material not only as an individual trace, but as a material of collective archaeology which the author translates through drawing, software visualisation, or scans, into information—digital traces. The research aspect, reminiscent of many of the principles of forensic science, goes hand in hand with his strong sensitivity and personal fascination with abnormal hair shapes and the taboo disorders of growth itself. The aesthetic qualities close to glitch art are thus at the centre of Sláma’s work, and its specific language contributes to a deeper understanding of qualities that are socially perceived as degraded or defective.

Technological and media eclecticism is an impulse for the author to produce other outputs which are thematically intertwined.

For example, he elaborated on the theme of portrait mutability and cyberface in the photographic sequence Hair: Patterns (2020) for the Bublina magazine. The creative processing of the inevitable “mistakes” that technologies generate is also reflected in the visuals of the T-shirts he designed with Alexander Campaz and Lukáš Prokop for the PAF Olomouc festival (2018). His diploma thesis The Scar (2023) has similar starting points. In it, Sláma focuses on forgotten urban places and uses 3D visualisation to create a hybrid environment in which objective reality merges with a fictional world exposed to the author’s imagination.

Matěj Sláma studied at the Video Studio under Martin Mazanec and Jan Šrámek at the FFA BUT. During his studies, he completed internships at the Cooper Union in New York City and the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts under Carsten Nicolai. He has presented his work at the Berlinskej model gallery in Prague, among others, as well as abroad, for example in the exhibition Leechin’ at the Cooper Union Gallery. He also gained practical experience during a year and a half’s internship at the 1646 Gallery-Experimental Art Space in The Hague, the Netherlands. In addition to the gallery environment, he regularly presents his works in public spaces and in the club scene, as well as in joint projects, such as those with Lukáš Prokop, the tandem Slama & Delong and Klára Fantová. He is part of the Lofofora collective from Zlín and Brno, with whom he collaborates on music dramaturgy and the preparation of workshops and festivals.

Adam Smrekovský Adam Smrekovský (* 1996) pracuje výhradně s médiem pohyblivého obrazu a filmovou narací. Navazuje na zcizující postupy experimentálního filmu a také na výtvarné postupy videoartu, který zkoumá a dekonstruuje aspekty narace vytvářející z díla celistvý fikční svět.

Jeho filmy na první pohled působí absurdním humorem a minimalistickým dějem. Reaguje tak na všudypřítomné a přetrvávající krize „velkých“ vyprávění. Postavami jeho filmů jsou často zvláštní outsideři, bizarní postavy, které však i přes neobvyklý zjev a řeči dávají větší smysl než skutečnost, vůči níž se vymezují. Kočičák, vyhořelý korporátní manažer chytající ztracené psy nebo prekarizovaný zaměstnanec z fabriky, který ve volném čase jezdí donekonečna autobusy, mohou sloužit jako příklady. I přes celkové absurdní pojetí lidského údělu nalezneme v jeho dílech citlivě reflektovanou sociální realitu a témata konspiračních teorií, zhoubného vlivu neoliberálních strategií internalizovaného self-managementu i prekarizované práce. Celkově Smrekovský svými filmy popisuje jakousi existenciálně laděnou odsouzenost k fungování uvnitř systému.

Formálně autor tíhne k DIY estetice, angažuje neherce nebo amatérské herce, kamera, střih a mizanscéna technicky leckdy působí spontánním a nahodilým stylem. Čerpá z estetiky sociálních sítí nebo DIY YouTube koláží. Žánrově se jeho díla pohybují někde mezi fikčním dokumentem a filmovou esejí, přibližuje se také mock-dokumentárnímu žánru – herec mluví s kameramanem, hrané záběry jsou v juxtapozici s found footage materiálem a jedna postava prochází několika filmy. Z jejich sledování si divák odnáší pocit dezorientace z mísení náznaků fikce a skutečnosti. I přesto opisují jeho filmy svou narací autentickou atmosféru, která se v jistých okamžicích přibližuje až specifické filmové mystičnosti (nebo její ironizaci). To vše diváka nutí dívat se dál a opakovaně. V rámci výstavy prezentuje svou diplomovou práci s názvem X-Y-Z (2023).

Adam Smrekovský nejprve studoval v Ateliéru intermédií na FaVU VUT v Brně. Je absolventem Ateliéru video u Martina Mazance a Jana Šrámka na téže univerzitě. Zúčastnil se stáže na Cooper Union v New Yorku. Jeho filmy byly promítány například na festivalu PAF Olomouc v rámci soutěže Jiné vize CZ (2021) nebo Letní filmové škole v Uherském hradišti (2021). Vystavoval na skupinových výstavách v Praze a Brně (Galerie FaVU, Berlínskej model nebo Galerie Jelení) nebo v Uničově na Festivalu současného umění (2022).

František Fekete

Adam Smrekovský (* 1996) works exclusively with the medium of moving image and film narration. He follows the alienating practices of experimental film and the visual practices of video art, which explores and deconstructs aspects of narrative, creating a holistic fictional world. At first glance his films have absurd humour and a minimalist plot. In doing so, he responds to the pervasive and persistent crisis of “grand” narratives. The protagonists in his films are often strange outsiders, bizarre characters who, despite their unusual appearances and speech, make more sense than the reality they define themselves against. The cat person, the burnt-out corporate executive who catches lost dogs, or the precarious factory worker who endlessly rides buses in his leisure time can serve as examples. Despite the overall absurd conception of human destiny, his works reflect sensitively on social reality and the themes of conspiracy theories, and on the destructive influence of neoliberal strategies of internalized self-management and precarious work. Overall, Smrekovský’s films describe a kind of existential destiny to function within the system. Formally, the author tends towards DIY aesthetics, engaging non-actors or amateur actors, while the camera, the editing and mise-en-scene often appear to be spontaneous and haphazard. Smrekovský draws on the aesthetics of social media and DIY YouTube collages. In terms of genre, his works are somewhere between fictional documentary and film essay, and they also come close to the mock-documentary genre—the actor talks to the cameraman, the staged footage is juxtaposed with found-footage material, and one character appears in several films. What the viewer gains from watching them is a sense of disorientation from the mix of fiction and reality.

Despite that, his films describe an authentic atmosphere through their narration, which at certain moments approaches a specific cinematic mystique (or its ironizing). All of this makes the viewer want to keep on watching. As part of the diploma exhibition, he presents his final work entitled X-Y-Z (2023).

Adam Smrekovský first studied Intermedia Studio at the FFA BUT, then at the same university under the guidance of Martin Mazanec and Jan Šrámek he studied Video Studio, of which he is a graduate. He completed an internship at the Cooper Union in New York. His films were screened at the PAF Olomouc festival (Other Visions CZ 2022), and at the Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště (2021). He has exhibited in group exhibitions in Prague and Brno (FFA Gallery, Berlinskej model Gallery, Jelení Gallery) and at the Festival of Contemporary Art in Uničov (2022).

Natálie Sodomková Natálie Sodomková (* 1997) se dlouhodobě zabývá možnostmi ilustrativních způsobů vyjádření v kontextu herní grafiky s přesahy do interaktivity. Hybridnost herního média je v její tvorbě impulzem k rozmanitým výstupům od klasických deskových her a tištěných publikací přes interaktivní instalace po digitální hry. Jádrem její práce je zkoumání digitálního prostředí a tvoření fiktivních světů za pomoci kresby, fyzických instalací, herních enginů či renderovaných programů. V rámci těchto světů ohledává pozici herního média v kontextu současného umění jako specifického sdělovacího prostředku.

Hra se jako sdělovací prostředek objevuje v autorčině 2D digitální hře LES (2020), která využívá explorativní a interface-based prvky. Jako hráči*hráčky se ocitáme v roli pozorovatele lesního mikrosvěta, který sledujeme pomocí omezeného periskopového výřezu ve svrchní vrstvě obrazu. Hra je založená na výrazném vizuálním jazyku, ve kterém autorka ustupuje od grafiky založené na ručně malovaných akvarelech a vykresluje herní prostředí pomocí stylizace zakládající se na nedostatečném rozlišení a omezené barevnosti.

Výsledné provedení vstupuje do kontextu osmibitové etapy herní historie a připomíná obrazový rozptyl neboli dithering. K němu se vrací nikoli z pozice nahodilého retra, ale autenticky jím zachycuje pohádkový charakter lesního prostředí, ve kterém citlivě směřuje k mytologii a lidové tradici vyprávění. Ukazuje les jako magické místo, které stojí na hranici našich vlastních vzpomínek, představ a fikcí.

Důležitou součástí autorčiny tvorby jsou zároveň projekty, v nichž experimentuje s rozličnými materiály a možnostmi, které nabízí spojení fyzického herního prostředí s novými technologiemi.

Jedním z těchto projektů je například tištěná publikace Obložené chlebíčky (2021), kterou paralelně doplňuje i stejnojmenná digitální hra. Sodomková se zde věnuje historii tohoto fenoménu v mezinárodnímu kontextu a uživatele zve k tomu, aby si pomocí samolepek nastrojili ideální variaci obloženého chlebíčku. Jedním z posledních projektů je autorčina dlouhodobá spolupráce s Anetou Fasorovou na strategické deskové hře Rozety a Rakety (2022). Výrazný černobílý vizuál je inspirovaný světem gotických katedrál, které se promítají do designu překližkových figurek. Ty se pohybují po čtvercových dlaždicích neboli rozetách z tvrdé lepenky, které vymezují hrací pole. Cílem hry je sestavit daný počet rozet dříve než protihráč. V rámci diplomové výstavy Sodomková prezentuje svůj závěrečný projekt visual identity of the virtual city (2023).

Natálie Sodomková je absolventkou Ateliéru herních médií u Vojtěcha Vaňka na FaVU VUT v Brně. Je členkou Ateliéru Duchů, autorského kolektivu, který sdružuje absolventy*absolventky a studenty*studentky Ateliéru herních médií. Absolvovala stáže na UMPRUM v Praze, ve studiu ilustrace Tomski&Polanski a na Accademia di Brera v Miláně. Svou tvorbu představila na interaktivní výstavě Kompas v KUMSTu v Brně, DUUL v Ústí nad Labem, mezinárodním festivalu ilustrace a komiksu LUSTR v Praze nebo na festivalu filmové animace a současného umění PAF Olomouc.

V rámci své tvorby spolupracovala na mnoha dílnách a vzdělávacích projektech, například na kurzu digitální ilustrace nebo workshopu Pod zemí pro Kinoškolu v brněnském kině Art. Eva Drexlerová

Natálie Sodomková (* 1997) has long been concerned with the possibilities of illustrative modes of expression in the context of game graphics with overlaps into interactivity. The hybrid character of the gaming medium is an impulse in her work that leads to a variety of outcomes, ranging from classic board games, printed publications, interactive installations and digital games. At the core of her work is the exploration of digital environments and the creation of fictional worlds using drawing, physical installations, game engines and rendered programs. Within these worlds, she explores the position of the gaming medium in the context of contemporary art as a specific means of communication.

The game appears as a means of communication in the author’s 2D digital game LES (2020), which uses exploratory and interface-based elements. As players, we find ourselves in the role of observer of the forest microworld, and we observe it through a limited periscope cut-out in the top layer of the image. The game is based on a distinctive visual language, in which the author moves away from graphics based on hand-painted watercolours, and depicts the game environment using a stylisation based on a lack of resolution and limited colour. The resulting production enters the context of the eight-bit stage of gaming history and is reminiscent of image scattering or dithering. The author returns to it not from the position of a haphazard retro, but authentically uses it to portray the fairy-tale character of the forest environment in which she sensitively moves towards mythology and the folk tradition of storytelling. She shows the forest as a magical place that stands on the border of our own memories, fantasies, and fictions.

An important part of the author’s work includes projects in which she experiments with various materials and the possibilities offered by the combination of the physical game environment with new technologies. One of these projects is the printed publication Sandwiches (2021), which is accompanied by a parallel digital game of the same name. There, Sodomková explores the history of this phenomenon in an international context and invites users to use stickers to create an ideal variation of a sandwich. One of the latest projects is the author’s long-term collaboration with Aneta Fasorová on the strategic board game Rosettes and Rockets (2022).

The striking black and white imagery is inspired by the world of gothic cathedrals, which is reflected in the design of the plywood figures.

These move on square tiles, or hardboard rosettes, that define the playing field. The object of the game is to assemble a given number of rosettes before the opponent. In the diploma exhibition Sodomková presents her final project visual identity of the virtual city (2023).

Natálie Sodomková studied at the Game Media Studio under Vojtěch Vaněk at the FFA BUT. She is a member of the Studio of Ghosts, an artistic collective that brings together graduates and students of the Game Media Studio. She completed internships at UMPRUM in Prague, at the Studio of Illustration Tomski&Polanski and at the Accademia di Brera in Milan. She has presented her work at the interactive exhibition Kompas at KUMST in Brno, at DUUL in Ústí nad Labem, at the international festival of illustration and comics LUSTR in Prague, and at the festival of contemporary art and moving image PAF Olomouc. As part of her work, she collaborates on many workshops and educational projects, such as the Digital Illustration Course and the Underground workshop for the Cinema School at Kino Art in Brno.

Kateřina Srbová Kateřina Srbová (* 1997) definuje svoju dizajnérsku prax prostredníctvom spoluúčasti na dianí v Ateliéri grafického designu 1 (pod oficiálnym vedením Zuzany Kubíkovej) a s ním asociovanej platformy AGDX, ktorých je absolventkou. Platformu AGDX vníma ako bezpečný priestor, ktorý umožňuje kultiváciu dlhodobej spolupráce na prienikových témach jej členov. Takto vznikol, v spolupráci s Jakubom Poláchom, web Glossy Research (glossyresearch.org) ako súčasť Srbovej bakalárskej práce, ktorá kriticky reflektovala kategórie jedinečnosti, originality a autenticity ako konkurenčných výhod v kontextoch módneho a grafického designu. Glossy Research, ktorá bola navrhnutá ako kolaboratívna webová platforma, umožňuje zdieľať, nielen Srbovej, ale aj ďalším užívateľom, príspevky k, v bakalárskej práci riešenej, problematike.

Srbová sa sústreďuje na tvorbu rešerší pre nadväzujúci, kolektívny dizajnový proces. Tu si kladie otázky po základných podstatách riešených problematík, ku príkladu: „Čo môže znamenať varenie?“, „Čo môže znamenať kaviareň?“, v projekte a zoskupení kitchen.agdx. Základnú podstatu sa Srbová následne snaží, v dialógu s ostatnými členy*členkami aktuálnej pracovnej skupiny, navrhovať, formulovať a implementovať do spoločne vytváranej softwarovej infraštruktúry. Vo svojej diplomovej práci writer.axdx (2023) Srbová rešeršuje podklady a buduje argumentáciu pre nástroj umožňujúci tvorbu textu oprosteného od zaužívaných pravidiel formátovania, ktoré sú typické pre súčasné textové editory. writer.axdx má ambíciu vrátiť pozornosť svojho užívateľa k základnej podstate, k samotnému aktu tvorby textu, podľa užívateľových špecifických potrieb, nie podľa hraníc proprietárneho editora.

Martina Růžičková

Kateřina Srbová (* 1997) defines her design practice through her participation in the Drawing and Graphics Studio 1 (under the official supervision of Zuzana Kubíková) of the FFA BUT and its associated platform AGDX, of which she is a graduate. She sees the AGDX platform as a safe space that allows the cultivation of long-term collaborations on the overlapping themes of its members. Thus, in collaboration with Jakub Polách, the Glossy Research website (glossyresearch.org) was created as part of Srbová’s bachelor’s thesis, which critically reflected on the categories of uniqueness, originality, and authenticity as competitive advantages in the contexts of fashion and graphic design. Glossy Research, which was designed as a collaborative web platform, enables the sharing of the contributions to the issues addressed in her bachelor’s thesis with other users, including Srbová.

Srbová focuses on the creation of research for the follow-up, collective design process. There, in the project and group called kitchen.agdx, she asks questions about the underlying merits of the issues addressed, for example: “What can cooking mean?”, “What can a café mean?”. Srbová has a dialogue with the other members of the group and tries to design, formulate and implement the basic essence of the jointly created software infrastructure.

In her master’s thesis, writer.axdx (2023), Srbová researches the background material and builds an argument for a tool that enables the creation of a text free from the established formatting rules typical of current text editors. Through writer.axdx, Srbová has aimed to return a user’s attention to the basic essence, the act of creating a text according to the user’s specific needs, not according to the confines of a proprietary editor.

Olga Staňková Olga Staňková (* 1995) ve své malířské tvorbě dlouhodobě a cíleně zkoumá možnosti vyjádření nehmotných jevů z okolního i svého vlastního vnitřního světa za užití minimalistických barevných prostředků a abstrahovaných forem. Při snaze ztvárnit esenci fenoménů, jako je ticho či nepřítomnost, pracuje kombinovanou technikou, která nechává diváctvo tápat, zda jsou tajuplné formy na obraze namalované autorčinou rukou, nebo se jedná o obtisky blíže neurčitých objektů a materiálů. Efemérnost a neuchopitelnost obrazům dodává také jemnost, s jakou se motivy zdánlivě vytrácejí či rozpouštějí z plátna pryč.

V některých případech, jako např. v sérii s názvem Velmi hlasitý šepot (z let 2020–2021), působí velkoformátová plátna v tlumených šedých odstínech, doplněných subtilními bílými akcenty, dojmem, jako by se z nich vyobrazené tvary a barevné pigmenty téměř vypařovaly přímo před očima, které se snaží usilovně uchopit načrtnuté významy. Svébytnou polohu představuje ranější série v tónech černé barvy s lesklými plochami a odrazy v podobě obrazů malovaných na latex (2021), k nimž jako by uvozovala cestu rozsáhlá práce na klasickém plátně v černo-šedých tónech evokující téměř meditativní proces snahy nahlédnout do lidských myšlenek. Stejně tak by se ovšem mohlo jednat i o soustředěný pohled do vzdálených hlubin (2020).

Experiment s matérií malby vedl v případě tohoto projektu také ke vzniku několika zcela i částečně transparentních skleněných objektů.

Zkoumání fyzických možností a definice malby pokračuje i v diplomovém projektu. Série nazvaná Reprezentace nepřítomnosti (2023) se věnuje transformaci a kontrastu současných přírodních změn s technickým, umělým prostředím. Autorka ve vzniklých obrazech, vytvořených transformací zabarvení kovu na velkých ocelových plátech, zaznamenává proměnu našeho současného vnímání přírody.

Olga Staňková je absolventkou Ateliéru malířství 3 na FaVU VUT v Brně pod vedením nejprve Petra Kvíčaly a Břetislava Malého, později Patricie Fexové a Veroniky Vlkové. Svou tvorbu doposud představila především na skupinových výstavách a projektech v rámci místní nezávislé galerijní scény.

Veronika Čechová

In her painting work, Olga Staňková (* 1995) has long and purposefully explored the possibilities of expressing intangible phenomena from the surrounding world, as well as from her own inner world, using minimalist means of colour and abstracted forms. In an attempt to portray the essence of such phenomena as silence or absence, she works with a mixed media technique that leaves the viewer confused as to whether the mysterious forms in the paintings are painted by the artist’s hand or are decals of unspecified objects and materials. The ephemerality and elusiveness of Staňková’s paintings is also enhanced by the subtlety with which the motifs seemingly disappear or dissolve away from the canvas.

In some cases, such as in the series titled Very Loud Whisper (from 2020–2021), the large-format canvases in muted shades of grey, accompanied by subtle white accents, give the impression that the shapes and colour pigments depicted are almost evaporating away right before the eyes that are struggling to grasp the meanings outlined. The earlier series in tones of black with glossy surfaces and reflections in the form of paintings on latex (2021), to which a largescale work on a classic canvas in black and grey tones evoking an almost meditative process of trying to look into the innermost of human thoughts seems to have led the way. However, it could just as well be a concentrated look into the distant depths (2020). In the case of this project, experimentation with the material of painting also led to the creation of transparent and semi-transparent glass objects.

The exploration of the physical possibilities and a definition of painting continues in Staňková’s diploma project. The series entitled Representation of Absence (2023) is dedicated to the transformation and contrast between contemporary natural changes and technical, artificially created environments. In the resulting paintings, created by transforming the colouring of metal on large steel plates, the artist records the transformation of our contemporary perception of nature.

Olga Staňková is a graduate of the Painting Studio 3 at the FFA BUT under the guidance of Petr Kvíčala and Břetislav Malý, later Patricie Fexová and Veronika Vlková. Staňková has so far mainly presented her work in group exhibitions and projects within the local independent gallery scene.

Veronika Šavarová Veronika Šavarová (* 1997) pracuje v klasickém médiu malby. Jejím hlavním inspiračním zdrojem je zpřítomnění „dokonalého krásného světa“, který vykazuje určitou auru neposkvrněného a nedotčeného každodenního života. Tento svět se možná takový zdá být na první pohled, ale zároveň je zobrazena jeho dysfunkčnost. Autorčino výtvarné pojetí se váže na metafyzický prostor, určité téma tajemství a bezčasovosti, až k pocitům osamělosti. Jako by sám prostor o sobě kladl na osamělost a odcizení důraz. Její obrazy nám nic nediktují. Pohledy, které se v nich snažíme nacházet, nás netlačí, nezmocňují se nás, a tak diváci*divačky mohou mít pocit, že se s nimi téměř nepočítá. Jako by byly uzavřeny samy v sobě.

Ve všech projektech z let 2018–2022, jako jsou Interiéry (2018), Uvíznutí (2019), Deníkové zápisy (2020), Bezpečná místa (2021) či Epifyt (2020–2021), je důležitým znakem obyčejnost. Přestože se tyto malířské cykly zdají jako neemocionální, silný dialog zde vede barva. Skoro jako by divák*divačka i autorka ve splynutí jedné bytosti měli využívat synestezii. Na obrazech jsou vykreslené, někdy plošně a někdy se silnou linií, pokojové rostliny v těžko rozeznatelném prostoru, který pomyslně spojuje vnější i vnitřní světy. Rostliny jsou tak jedinou „živou“ bytostí, kterou v obrazech nacházíme. Symbolika rostlin, která autorku zajímá dlouhodobě, osciluje různým směrem. Jsou pro ni interním vyjádřením, které však divákům*divačkám nesděluje. Pocitově tak můžeme uvažovat o rostlině jako symbolu přírody, která se stále zmenšuje a uchyluje do menších prostorů, protože ji technický a industriální svět požírá. Zároveň si však můžeme všímat i prostoru, který v nás vyvolává neklid – rostliny různě bují, až se s nich stávají nebezpeční tvorové.

Diplomový projekt To, co chci vidět (2023) vychází z předešlých prací, ve kterých se Šavarová soustředila na práci s narativem. Autorka přiznává klasickou malbu, nehledá její přesahy, naopak olejomalba, kterou završuje své studium, demonstruje, že meziprostory lze nacházet v klasickém závěsném médiu, jež se vztahuje k našemu aktuálnímu času a prostoru.

Veronika Šavarová absolvovala Ateliér malířství 3 na FaVU VUT v Brně u Patricie Fexové a Veronika Vlkové. V rámci zahraničních stáží navštívila např. Kulturní centrum Dvoreca Balchik v Bulharsku.

Převážně se prezentuje v galeriích off formátu či v kulturních zařízeních (Café Tucan, Valašské Meziříčí; Kavárna Továrna, Zlín aj.). Podílela se také na mnoha skupinových výstavách, jako např. Pokoje v Praze a dále v Brně. Je zastoupena ve sbírkách COLLETT Prague | Munich, a. s., v rámci skupiny Lettenmayer & Partner.

Tea Záchová

Veronika Šavarová (* 1997) works with the classical medium of painting. Her main source of inspiration is the representation of the “perfect beautiful world”, which has a certain aura of immaculate and untouched everyday life. That is how this world may appear at first glance, but its dysfunctionality is also depicted. The artist’s artistic conception is linked to metaphysical space, a certain theme of mystery and timelessness, even to feelings of loneliness.

It is as if the space itself emphasised loneliness and alienation.

Her paintings do not dictate anything to us. The glances we try to find in them do not push us, do not overwhelm us, and so viewers may have the feeling that they are almost not taken into account.

It is as if these paintings were closed within themselves. In all the 2018–2022 projects, such as Interiors (2018), Stuck (2019), Diary Entries (2020), Safe Places (2021), and Epifyt (2020–2021), ordinariness is an important feature. Although these series of paintings seem unemotional, a strong dialogue is conducted through colour.

It is almost as if the viewer and the artist were using synaesthesia in the fusion of one being. The paintings depict, sometimes flatly and sometimes with a strong line, houseplants in a barely discernible space that imaginatively connects the outer and inner worlds. Plants are thus the only “living” beings we find in the paintings. The symbolism of plants, which the artist has been interested in for a long time, oscillates in different directions. They are an internal expression for her, which she does not communicate to the audience. We can thus think of the plant as a symbol of woman-nature, which is constantly shrinking and retreating into smaller spaces, being devoured by the technical and industrial world. At the same time, however, we can also notice the space that makes us uneasy—the plants grow in different ways until they become dangerous creatures.

Her diploma project What I Want to See (2023) is based on her previous works, in which she focused on working with narrative.

The artist acknowledges classical painting, she does not look for its overlaps; on the contrary, the oil painting that completes her studies demonstrates that in-between spaces can be found in the classical hung medium that is relevant to our present time and space.

Veronika Šavarová graduated from Painting Studio 3 at the FFA BUT. As part of her internships abroad, she visited the Dvoreca Balchik Cultural Centre in Bulgaria. She mostly presents her work in off format galleries and cultural institutions (Café Tucan, Valašské Meziříčí; Kavárna Továrna, Zlín, etc.). She has also been represented in many group exhibitions, such as Rooms in Prague and also in Brno, as well as in the collections of COLLETT Prague | Munich, a. s. within the Lettenmayer & Partner group.

Marek Ščudla Marek Ščudla (* 1997) je autorem s převážně hudebním zaměřením.

Tvoří jako rapper pod jménem Indigo, ale také jako módní a grafický designér a DJ. Ve svých hudebních či výtvarných dílech se Ščudla inspiruje životy mladých lidí, převážně z generace Z, která jako první vyrůstala v době internetu, a dlouhodobě řeší propisování introspektivních témat do své tvorby. Mladí lidé z této generace se více otevírají světu s tématy, jako je křehkost duševního zdraví a samota, či užívání alkoholu a tanečních drog na druhé straně. Ve svých textech popisuje generaci, která začíná navštěvovat kluby a zakoušet poprvé svobodu a noční život, stejně tak jako depresi, úzkost a strach. Experimentování s drogami a testování hranic svých možností jsou tématy práce Fasten Your Seatbelts (2018), která představuje Ščudlovu módní kolekci. V ní se inspiroval příběhy lidí, kteří poslouchají rap a napodobují to, co slyší v textech. Chtějí žít stejně, jako žijí postavy z hudebních skladeb, a balancují na hranici svobody a ilegálních činností. Autor pro kolekci vytvořil krátké video, v němž představuje modely jako figuríny určené pro testování účinků autohavárií. Metafora sebedestrukce se odráží na lidech, jimiž byla kolekce inspirovaná. Jedná se o černé kusy oblečení, na kterých je vyšitý nápis „Fasten Your Seatbelts“ a které je doplněno žlutými zipy.

Celá kolekce tak parafrázuje nebezpečí, kterému se dnes mladí lidé vystavují, a prezentuje se pod vlastním hashtagem #safetyyouth. Ščudla se také věnuje grafickému designu, je autorem většiny artworků ke svým hudebním projektům a v rámci labelu Mike Roft Records, ve kterém dlouhodobě působí, designoval řadu coverů či merchandinsingů. Stojí za vizuální identitou uskupení rychlí kluci, jehož je také členem. Pod jménem Indigo představil svůj první větší hudební celek – EP 4B0082 (2018). Ve skladbách řeší zmiňovanou introspekci a témata sebenalézání či sebeporozumění. Tomu předcházela práce Shackled By Your Own Skin (2017), ve které si Ščudla pohrává s metaforou oblečení jako další vrstvy lidského obalu, který si každý vybírá sám podle svého uvážení. Vychází zde z fotografie/ textury vlastního obličeje, který následně postprodukčně upravuje do symetrické, možná až transhumanistické podoby, zbavené veškerých emocí. Poukazuje na zakrývání nedostatků a pochyb mladých lidí, na jejich často nízké sebevědomí, kvůli kterému se oblékají spíše výstředně. Navrhl tedy kolekci propojenou prvkem látkových pruhů jako metaforou pro tzv. spoutanost s naší reálnou kůží.

Jeho doposud nejkomplexnějším výtvarným výstupem byla bakalářská práce s názvem Unknown.mp3 (2020), na níž spolupracoval s Antonínem Blümelem, který stojí za českou módní značkou Nine Viper. Práce spočívala v audiovizuální instalaci sestávající se z hudební skladby, videoklipu, graffiti muralu a merchandisingu ve formě motokrosového dresu. Celý projekt se zabýval závodní, tuningovou a y2k estetikou, kterou Ščudla dlouhodobě reflektuje.

S producentem vystupujícím pod jménem Bloodflow vydal své druhé hudební EP Tarot (2021), které sám režíroval a k němuž vytvořil řadu souvisejících videoklipů. V rámci výstavy diplomových prací prezentuje svůj závěrečný projekt Demo(s) (2023), v němž se věnuje mapování procesu tvorby debutového alba.

Marek Ščudla je absolventem Ateliéru videa u Martina Mazance a Jana Šrámka na FaVU VUT v Brně. Je také členem vydavatelství Mike Roft Records a byl jedním ze zakladatelů již zaniklého kolektivu BABYPOOL, který vznikl kolem roku 2016 v Brně a organizoval stejnojmenné eventy spojující českou i zahraniční klubovou scénu se současným rapem.

Natálie Kubíková

Marek Ščudla (* 1997) is an author with a predominantly musical focus. He works as a rapper under the name of Indigo, but also as a fashion and graphic designer and a DJ. In his musical and artistic works Ščudla is inspired by the lives of young people, mostly from Generation Z, who were the first to grow up in the internet age and have long been dealing with writing introspective themes into their work. Young people of this generation are more open to the world, familiar with topics such as the fragility of mental health and loneliness, and the use of alcohol and dance drugs. In his texts, he describes a generation of young people starting to visit clubs and experiencing freedom and nightlife for the first time, as well as depression, anxiety and fear. Experimenting with drugs and testing the limits of one’s abilities are the themes of the work Fasten Your Seatbelts (2018), which involves Ščudl’s fashion collection.

In it, he was inspired by the stories of people who listen to rap, mimicking what they hear in the lyrics. They want to live the same way the characters in the songs, and they balance on the border between freedom and illegal activities. For the collection, the artist created a short video in which he presents the models as mannequins designed to test the effects of car crashes. The metaphor of self-destruction is reflected in the people inspired by the collection. The fashion collection consists of black pieces of clothing embroidered with the words “Fasten Your Seatbelts”, complete with yellow zippers.

The entire collection thus paraphrases the dangers young people face today and is presented under its own hashtag #safetyyouth. Ščudla is also involved in graphic design. He is the author of most of the artwork for his musical projects and has designed several covers and merchandising for the Mike Roft Records label, where he has worked for a long time. He is behind the visual identity of the band Fast Boys, of which he is also a member. Under the name Indigo, he presented his first major musical body of work - EP 4B0082 (2018). In the tracks, he addresses the aforementioned introspection and themes of self-discovery or self-understanding.

This was preceded by the work titled Shackled By Your Own Skin (2017), in which Ščudla plays with the metaphor of clothing as another layer of human packaging, which everyone chooses for themselves.

Here, he draws on a photograph and the texture of his own face, which he then post-produces into a symmetrical, perhaps even transhumanist form, devoid of all emotion. He points to the concealment of young people’s shortcomings and doubts, and to their frequent periods of low self-esteem, which makes them dress rather eccentrically.

So, he designed a collection connected by the element of fabric stripes as a metaphor for the so-called bondage to the real human skin.

His most comprehensive artistic output to date was a bachelor thesis titled Unknown.mp3 (2020), in which he collaborated with Antonín Blümel, the man behind the Czech fashion brand Nine Viper. The work involved an audiovisual installation consisting of a music track, a video clip, a graffiti mural and merchandising in the form of a motocross jersey. The whole project dealt with the racing, tuning and y2k aesthetics that Ščudla has long reflected on. With a producer going by the name of Bloodflow, he released his second music EP Tarot (2021), which he directed himself and for which he created a series of related music videos. As part of the diploma theses exhibition, he presents his final project Demo(s) (2023), which explores the process of creating his debut album.

Marek Ščudla is a graduate of the Video Studio under Martin Mazanec and Jan Šrámek at the FFA BUT. He is also a member of the Mike Roft Records label and was one of the founders of the now defunct BABYPOOL team, which was founded around 2016 in Brno and organised events of the same name connecting the Czech and international club scene with contemporary rap.

Kateřina Šillerová Kateřina Šillerová (* 1996) se dlouhodobě zajímá o vnitřní procesy a skladbu organismů, zkoumá spolupráci jednotlivých částí uvnitř lidského těla, na které se snaží nazírat z jiné perspektivy než současná medicína. Pracuje s představou, že vědomé mohou být i mikroskopické části našich těl, což nám dává možnost hlubšího poznání sebe sama na imaginativní úrovni, která je pro autorku stejně zásadní jako exaktní přístupy. U svých prací a úvah vychází z transhumanismu, myšlenkového směru založeného na pozitivním přijetí technologií, které přirozeně srůstají s lidskými těly za účelem zvýšení jejich efektivity. Tento posthumanistický směr ve své tvorbě Šillerová spojuje s panpsychismem: s názorem, že duševno je základem všech jsoucen. Těžištěm její práce jsou kresby sloužící jako zdroje pro rozvedení témat do dalších médií, jako je nejčastěji objekt či instalace, s občasným využitím videa a textu. Materiál, který volí pro své objekty, má zásadní výpovědní hodnotu, odkazuje na osobní téma nemoci a očišťování, proto většinově využívá kosmetické či chemické substance, jež se pojí s péčí o tělo. Postup práce s těmito materiály, tekutinami a látkami, které míchá, rozpouští a vaří, aby tak docílila kýženého výsledku, se často podobá alchymii. Ve své tvorbě Šillerová postupně rozvíjí vlastní pojem tzv. buněčné spirituality, totiž že spiritualita je vlastní i samotné buňce v lidském těle.

Její diplomová práce s názvem Inner Matter (2023) se věnuje hledání způsobů, jak navázat kontakt s naším tělem, které je navzdory své fyzické blízkosti pocitově daleko, ve smyslu našeho chápání jeho impulzů a mechanismů, na jejichž základě funguje. Instalace rozvíjí představu, že stejně jako je člověk emocionální bytost, jsou emocionální i mikroskopické části, ze kterých se skládá lidské tělo.

Hlavním výsledkem jsou mýdlové vitráže, objekty vytvořené z mýdlové hmoty, které Šillerová připodobňuje ke skleněným plochám s náboženskou tematikou. Objekty založené na symbolickém vztahu lidského těla – svaté figury jsou pro ni metaforou k nazírání na atomy a buňky jako na svátosti uvnitř našich biologických těl. Zdrojem pro mýdlové hmoty jsou přitom kresby využívající vizualitu vědeckých ilustrací, která je do určité míry imaginativní, ačkoliv je přijímaná jako exaktní. V instalaci použité umělé světlo na sebe bere význam svatého, a i když je technické, má pro Šillerovou transcendentální charakter.

Instalace vytvářející kompaktní prostor ke koncentrovanému vnímání vnitřní skladby těl zrcadlí a rozvíjí autorčin pojem buněčné spirituality, kdy vědecké a spirituální může existovat společně.

Kateřina Šillerová je absolventkou bakalářského studia v Ateliéru kresby a grafiky u Svätopluka Mikyty na FaVU VUT v Brně. Na stejné univerzitě je diplomantkou v Ateliéru tělového designu pod vedením Lenky Klodové. V roce 2019 studovala na drážďanské Hochschule für Bildende Künste. Byla součástí skupinových výstav Über das jucken, Alte Feuerwache Loschwitz, Drážďany (2019); Jednou jsem přitiskla ucho ke stromu, do kterého ťukal datel, galerie Umakart, Brno (2020); Empire: Behind, Galerie FaVU, Brno (2020); VIZ, SEFT, Brno (2022). V roce 2021 se Šillerová účastnila rezidence v C. Rockefeller Center for the contemporary Arts, Drážďany.

Anežka Chalupová

Kateřina Šillerová (* 1996) has long been interested in the internal processes and composition of organisms, examining the cooperation of individual parts within the human body from a different perspective to contemporary medicine. She works with the idea that even the microscopic parts of our bodies can have consciousness, which gives us the possibility of a deeper knowledge of ourselves on an imaginative level, and this is fundamental for the author in the same manner as exact scientific approaches. In her works and reflections she draws on transhumanism; a school of thought based on the positive acceptance of technologies that naturally fuse with human bodies to increase their efficiency. In her work, Shiller combines this posthumanist movement with panpsychism; the view that the psyche is the basis of all beings. In her work she focuses on drawings that serve as sources for the development of themes in other media, such as objects and installations, with occasional use of video and text. The material she chooses for her objects has a fundamental expressive value, referring to personal themes of illness and purification, so she mostly uses cosmetic or chemical substances that are associated with body care.

The process of working with these materials, liquids and substances, which she mixes, dissolves and cooks to achieve the desired result, often resembles alchemy. In her work, Šillerová gradually develops her own notion of the so-called cellular spirituality, namely that spirituality is inherent even in the cells of the human body.

The work entitled Inner Matter (2023) is concerned with finding ways of getting in touch with our bodies which, despite their physical proximity, are sensually distant, in terms of our understanding of their impulses and the mechanisms on which they operate.

The installation develops the idea that just as humans are emotional beings, so are the microscopic parts that make up the human body. The main result is soap-stained glass, objects made of soap, which Šillerová equates to glass surfaces with religious themes.

Objects based on the symbolic relationship between the human body and the holy figure are a metaphor for her to view atoms and cells as sacraments within our biological bodies. In doing so, the source for the soap creations is drawings with the visuality of scientific illustrations, and which are to some extent imaginative, although accepted as being exact. In the installation the artificial light takes on the meaning of the sacred, and although technical, it has a transcendental character for Šillerová. Creating a compact space for the concentrated perception of the internal composition of bodies, the installation mirrors and develops the artist’s notion of cellular spirituality, where the scientific and the spiritual can coexist.

Kateřina Šillerová is a graduate of the bachelor’s studies in the Studio of Drawing and Graphic Design under Svätopluk Mikyta at the FFA BUT. She is currently completing her master’s studies at the same university in the Studio of Body Design under the supervision of Lenka Klodová. In 2019, she studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden. She was part of the group exhibitions Über das jucken, Alte Feuerwache Loschwitz, Dresden (2019); Once I Pressed my Ear to the Tree where the Woodpecker was Tapping, Umakart Gallery, Brno (2020); Empire: Behind, FaVU Gallery, Brno (2020); VIZ, SEFT, Brno (2022). In 2021, Šillerová participated in a fellowship at the C. Rockefeller Center for the Contemporary Arts, Dresden.

Petr Škobrtal Petr Škobrtal (* 1997) je absolventom Ateliéru grafického designu 1 na FaVU VUT v Brně pod oficiálnym vedením Zuzany Kubíkovej a s týmto ateliérom asociovanej platformy AGDX, ktorá sa zaoberá mediálne nešpecifickým dizajnom, pričom odkazuje na čo najširšie pojatie slova dizajn. Toto je spojené sosobnou motiváciou meniť žitú realitu rôznorodými stratégiami a prostriedkami. Táto tendencia sa odráža aj v Škobrtalovej diplomovej práci SocialMaps Manifesto (2023), ktorá preskúmáva a prekonáva existujúce paradigmy mapových aplikácií. Škobrtalov SocialMaps Manifesto je diplomovou prácou vo forme textu. Tento je možné chápať ako výstup z častí dizajnového procesu – z rešerše, kritickej analýzy existujúcich riešení a ideácie možných alternatív k nim. Škobrtal, v procese navrhovania, vychádza z aktuálne používaných mapových aplikácií. Reflektuje ich s dôrazom na spôsoby, ktorými generujú svojím vlastníkom zisk. Pritom sa snaží modelovať východisko z, pre neho, problematických ekonomických a marketingových modelov. Škobrtalova diplomová práca nadväzuje na jeho bakalársku prácu, v ktorej sa zaoberal prototypovaním aplikácie. V podobe SocialMaps Manifesto tak vznikol analytický podklad, na ktorý môže jeho autor, či ktokoľvek ďalší, nadviazať a použiť ho pre tvorbu alternatívnych mapových aplikácií.

Martina Růžičková

Petr Škobrtal (* 1997) is a graduate of the Graphic Design Studio 1 (FFA BUT) and its associated platform AGDX, which deals with media-non-specific design, using the broadest possible concept of the word design. Škobrtal’s work is coupled with his personal motivation to change the experienced reality through diverse strategies and means. This tendency is also reflected in his thesis SocialMaps Manifesto (2023), which explores and transcends existing paradigms of map applications. Škobrtal’s SocialMaps Manifesto is a diploma thesis in the form of a text. It can be understood as the output of parts of the design process—research, a critical analysis of the existing solutions and the ideation of possible alternatives to them. In the design process Škobrtal draws on currently used mapping applications.

He reflects on them with an emphasis on the ways in which they generate profit for their owners. In doing so, he tries to simulate a way out of, for him, problematic economic and marketing models. Škobrtal’s master’s thesis is a continuation of his bachelor thesis in which he dealt with the prototyping of the mapping application.

In the form of SocialMaps Manifesto, an analytical basis has been created, which the author, or anyone else, can build on and use for the creation of alternative map applications.

Vojtěch Škuta Pro Vojtěcha Škutu (* 1996) není primárním médiem pouze fotografie. Do své práce dlouhodobě zapojuje také pohyblivý obraz nebo audio. Škuta čerpá ze své osobní analýzy chování společnosti.

Jako zdroj jeho prací mu slouží prostředí, ve kterých se on sám už od dětství pohybuje a kde nalézá zažité vzorce chování jednotlivých členů, na něž se snaží kriticky upozornit. Ve Škutově zkoumání se odrážejí osobní zkušenosti, všímavé pozorování a schopnost upozornit na podstatu celospolečenských problémů.

Autor pochází ze severní Moravy a dlouhodobě se ho dotýká téma odsunu sudetských Němců. Tuto širokou problematiku ale neřeší z pohledu historického, nachází vzorce chování lidí podobné těm z poválečné doby v jiných současných společenstvích, kterých je on sám součástí. Diplomová práce s názvem Radikaler Fußballer (2023) je studií procesu radikalizace a kritikou extremismu v prostředí fotbalových fanoušků. Odkazuje na stále se opakující schémata chování lidí, na radikální vrstvu společnosti, její vnitřní nastavení a hranice. Spojuje dvě zdánlivě nesouvisející prostředí a dva časové úseky, historickou paměť území bývalých Sudet a prostředí současných ultra fans. Oba prostory provází lidská touha po osvojení si určitého území, stanovení pevných hranic, kde bude mít moc jen jedna vrstva společnosti a kde se psychické či fyzické násilí stává nástrojem boje za práva většiny. Výsledná scénografická instalace, na jejíž podobu měla vliv také dlouhodobá Škutova spolupráce s divadlem, využívá několik médií – video, audionahrávky, fotografie a textil. Intermediálním přístupem k tématu se Škuta snaží postihnout širokou škálu vrstev extremismu. K dosažení záměru využívá některé postupy ultra fans, jako je vokální skupinová podpora či vyvěšování transparentů na fotbalových stadionech.

Ty jsou pro něj nástroji ke kritice společenství a zkoušce její integrity.

Dvě zinscenovaná videa, která jsou součástí instalace, svou ironií odlehčují celkovou atmosféru tématu, ale zároveň metaforicky vystihují stále se opakující negativní stránky společenských skupin.

Vojtěch Škuta absolvoval bakalářské studium tvůrčí fotografie u Michala Kalhouse a Imricha Vebera na Ostravské univerzitě.

Je magisterským absolventem Ateliéru fotografie na FaVU VUT v Brně u Ivarse Gravlejse a Tomáše Javůrka. Vystavoval na Fotofestivalu v Uničově (2019) nebo v Galerii U Mloka v Olomouci (2020).

Byl součástí několika skupinových výstav jako například Pokoje, Praha (2017); #vztahy, Rainbow gallery, Prostějov (2018); Josefov III, Bastion IV, Josefov (2019) nebo Živý pohyb, Galerie Dukla, Ostrava (2021). Dlouhodobě pracuje také v divadelním prostředí. Spolupracoval na divadelních inscenacích v letní divadelní dílně Chotěborky nebo v projektu „krajina, místo, historie“, které studenti*studentky JAMU vytvářeli pod vedením Matěje Růžičky ve Stříbrných Horách na Rýmařovsku.

Anežka Chalupová

For Vojtěch Škuta (* 1996) photography is not the primary medium.

His work has long involved moving image or audio. Škuta draws on his personal analysis of the behaviour of society. The source of his work is the environments in which he himself has lived since childhood, and in which he finds established patterns of behaviour in individual members, which he tries to draw critical attention to. Škuta’s research reflects his personal experiences, keen observation and the ability to draw attention to the essence of social problems.

The author comes from North Moravia and has long been concerned with the topic of the displacement of the Sudeten Germans. However, he does not address this broad issue from a historical perspective but finds patterns of human behaviour similar to those of the post-war period in other contemporary communities of which he himself is a part. His diploma thesis, Radikaler Fußballer (2023), is a study of the process of radicalization and a critique of extremism among football fans. It refers to recurring patterns of human behaviour, the radical segment of society, its internal settings and boundaries. It connects two seemingly unrelated environments and two time periods; the historical memory of the territory of the former Sudetenland and the environment of contemporary ultra fans. Both spaces are accompanied by the human desire to conquer territory, to establish firm boundaries where only one segment of society will have power and where psychological and physical violence become instruments of struggle for the rights of the majority. The resulting scenographic installation, whose form was also influenced by Škuta’s long-term collaboration with theatre, uses several media—video, audio recordings, photography, and textiles. By taking an inter-media approach to the subject, the artist attempts to capture the wide range of layers of extremism. To achieve his intention, he uses some of the practices of ultra fans, such as vocal group support and hanging banners in football stadiums. These are tools for him to criticise this community and test its integrity. The two staged videos that are part of the installation lighten the overall atmosphere of the theme with their irony, but at the same time they metaphorically depict the recurring negative aspects of social groups.

Vojtěch Škuta completed his bachelor’s studies in creative photography under Michal Kalhous and Imrich Veber at the University of Ostrava, and is a master’s graduate of the Photography Studio at the FFA BUT under Ivars Gravlejs and Tomáš Javůrek. Škuta exhibited at the Fotofestival in Uničov (2019) and at the U Mloka Gallery in Olomouc (2020). He was part of several group exhibitions, such as Rooms, Prague (2017); #relationships, Rainbow Gallery, Prostějov (2018); Josefov III, Bastion IV, Josefov (2019), and Live Movement, Dukla Gallery, Ostrava (2021). He has also been working in the theatre environment for a long time. He has collaborated on theatre productions at the Chotěborky summer theatre workshop and in the project “Landscape, Place, History”, which JAMU students created under the guidance of Matěj Růžička in Stříbrné Hory in the Rýmařov region.

Veronika Špundová Veronika Špundová (* 1994) rozličnými prostředky umělecké práce připomíná (nebo dokonce odhaluje) komplexní vazby, z nichž je upředena složitá planetární síť zahrnující jak člověka, tak další Zemi obývající bytosti. Pro její práci je typická s přírodou kontrastní neonová estetika obeznámeně si pohrávající se symbolikou barev. Tyto skryté významy, jež korelují s problémy dnešního světa, autorka postihuje napříč různými médii od textilu, grafiky, videa, performance až po objekt.

Inspirovaná současnými filozofickými myšlenkovými směry, jako je spekulativní realismus či posthumanismus, Špundová již ve svých ranějších projektech, jako např. v Uctění památky smrti antropocentrismu (2019), oslavovala konec antropocentrismu a vybízela ke zpomalení civilizačního tempa, které se v kontextu klimatické proměny zdá být neudržitelné (Hajej, nynej, human, 2019). Zatímco její dřívější tvorba byla určená primárně galerijnímu provozu, novější projekty se zaběhnutým institučním rámcům snaží snad až vyhýbat. V dílech jako Svatyňka – #CCFF00 #C0C0C0 #000000 (2021) nebo Work, Butterfly! (Together) (2022) překračuje logiku white cube a v exteriérech v okolí Brna inscenuje specifické stylizované situace, které počítají s aktivní účastí samotného návštěvnictva. Participativní charakter těchto děl, který vychází z principů rolových her (LARP), narušuje ustanovenou výměnu mezi tvůrkyní a diváctvem, a zatímco se autorka stává spíše iniciátorkou probíhajících (pří)běhů, návštěvnictvo se přímo angažuje v daném projektu a podílí se na jeho výsledku. Produktivní rolí všech zúčastněných nejen umožňuje kolektivní zvědomění vzájemné synergie, ale bezprostřední kontakt s přírodním prostředím taktéž poukazuje na složitější spoje s dalšími živočichy či ekosystémy. Umění se v jejím pojetí stává něčím, co má mentálně i tělesně aktivovat, burcovat, a měnit tak dosavadní přístupy ke světu. V rámci výstavy diplomových prací Špundová představuje svůj závěrečný projekt 4 ELEMENTS (2023).

Veronika Špundová je absolventkou Sdružených uměnovědných studií na Filozofické fakultě Masarykovy univerzity, byla studentkou nejprve Ateliéru kresby a grafiky, nyní je absolventkou Ateliéru videa u Martina Mazance a Jana Šrámka na FaVU VUT v Brně. Vystavovala například v Nau Gallery, Zaazrak|Dornych, Galerii Garáž ve Zlíně, Umakart Galerii nebo na polském uměleckém festivalu Młode Wilki.

Jiří Sirůček

Through various forms of artistic work, Veronika Špundová (* 1994) reminds us of (or even reveals) the complex links that make up a complex planetary network involving humans and other creatures inhabiting the Earth. Her work is characterised by neon aesthetics contrasting with nature and playing with the symbolism of colour.

These hidden meanings, which correlate with the problems of today’s world, are explored across a variety of media, from textiles, graphics, video, and performance to object.

Inspired by contemporary philosophical schools of thought such as speculative realism and posthumanism, Špundová had already celebrated the end of anthropocentrism in her early projects (Commemorating the Death of Anthropocentrism, 2019) and called for a slowing down of the pace of the civilization which seems to be unsustainable due to climate change (Hajej, nynej, human, 2019). While her earlier work was primarily intended for galleries, her more recent projects perhaps seek to evade established institutional frameworks. In her works such as Svatyňka – #CCFF00 #C0C0C0 #000000 (2021) and Work, Butterfly!

(Together) (2022), she goes beyond the logic of the white cube, staging specific stylized situations in the exteriors around Brno that assume the active participation of visitors. The participatory nature of these works, based on the principles of role-playing games (LARP), disrupts the established exchange between the creator and the viewer, and while the author becomes more of an initiator of the ongoing stories, the visitors are directly involved in the project, participating in its outcome. The productive role of all the persons involved not only allows for a collective awareness of mutual synergy, but the direct contact with the environment also points to more complex connections with other animals or ecosystems. In her conception, art becomes something to activate and stimulate mentally and physically, thus changing the existing approaches to the world. As part of the diploma exhibition, Špundová presents her final project 4 ELEMENTS (2023).

Veronika Špundová is a graduate of the Combined Art Studies at the Masaryk University. She was a student of the Drawing and Graphics Studio at the FFA BUT, and now she is a graduate of the Video Studio at the same university under the supervision of Martin Mazanec and Jan Šrámek. She has exhibited at Nau Gallery, Zaazrak|Dornych, Garage Gallery, Umakart Gallery and the Polish art festival Młode Wilki.

Lucie Ulehlová Designérka Lucie Ulehlová (* 1999) navrhuje produkty, ktoré vynikajú schopnosťou adaptovať sa na rozličné vlastnosti prostredí, v ktorých sú umiestnené a používané, a taktiež na špecifické potreby svojich užívateľov, ku príkladu ľudí s postihnutím. V tomto duchu Ulehlová vytvorila bezbariérové pítko a modulárne sedenie, obe vhodné pre inštaláciu do verejného priestoru. S obmedzeniami na strane prostredia, v ktorom bude výsledný produkt aplikovaný, pracovala Ulehlová pri navrhovaní skladacieho mlynčeku na kávu pre horských turistov*turistky. Výstupy svojej práce doplňuje tiež o vrstvu grafického designu v podobe vlastných ilustrácií, kde experimentuje aj s technikou modrotisku.

Vo svojej diplomovej práci Modularita (2023) nadväzuje na, v minulosti už rozpracované, princípy modularity a adaptability, ktoré uplatňuje v oblasti interiérového designu. Sústreďuje sa na konštruovanie nábytku a prvkov, ktoré majú mať potenciál deliť a tým pádom aj meniť priestor, v ktorom sú umiestnené. Cieľom Ulehlovej je navrhnúť maximálne adaptabilné prvky, ktoré sú použiteľné viacerými spôsobmi, rozličnými užívateľmi a vo variabilných interiéroch. Integrálnou súčasťou jej pracovného procesu je tiež výber vhodných výrobných postupov pre komponenty navrhovaného nábytku a prvkov, s prihliadnutím k jednej z ich základných vlastností, ktorou je práve modularita.

Lucie Ulehlová je absolventkou Ateliéru produktového designu na FaVU VUT v Brně pod vedením Ondřeje Toboly a Jana Mikošky.

Lucie Ulehlová (* 1999) designs products that can be adapted to suit the different characteristics of the environments in which they are placed and used, and they can also be adapted to the specific needs of their users, such as handicapped people. In this spirit, Ulehlová has created a wheelchair-accessible drinking fountain and modular seating, both suitable for installation in public spaces.

Within the constraints of the environment in which the final product will be applied, Ulehlová has worked with the design of a folding coffee grinder for mountain hikers. She also adds a layer of graphic design to the output of her work, in the form of her own illustrations, where she also experiments with the blueprint technique.

In her diploma thesis Modularity (2023), she builds on the principles of modularity and adaptability, already developed in the past, which she applies in the field of interior design. She focuses on the construction of furniture and elements that have the potential to be divided and therefore change the space in which they are placed. Ulehlová’s aim is to design elements that can be adapted and used in multiple ways by different users and in variable interiors.

An integral part of her working process is also the selection of appropriate manufacturing processes for the components of the designed furniture and elements, taking into account one of their fundamental characteristics, which is modularity.

Lucie Ulehlová obtained her master’s degree in Product Design Studio at the FFA BUT under the supervision of Ondřej Tobola a Jan Mikoška.

Sara Wollasch Sara Wollasch (* 1997) se ve své tvorbě zabývá především tělesností, otázkami péče a hledáním nových forem soužití i spolupráce.

Její práce odkazuje na lásku, hravost i humor, nalezneme zde ale i prvky sebeironie a určitý druh svébytné přirozenosti. Právě s tímto ryze přirozeným a intuitivním přístupem k životu se divák setkává během jejích performancí, ve kterých je mnohdy konfrontován s nahotou nebo stylizací autorčina těla. Z nedávných projektů lze v tomto kontextu zmínit například performanci Prsa (2021), ve které je nahota nástrojem boje proti různým formám sociálního či politického útlaku i projevem ženské síly. Lidské tělo jako primární prostředek komunikace se často prolíná s autorčinou sochařskou praxí a instalační tvorbou, odléváním částí těla ze sádry a zapojováním sochařských objektů jako svébytných aktérů jednotlivých happeningů a akcí, například v díle Venuše, pocta Kateřině Olivové (2022) nebo NEST (2023). Vedle objektových instalací se Wollash vyjadřuje také prostřednictvím videa, například v díle UNITED COLOURS OF (2022), které je součástí série videí, jimiž autorka reaguje na současné společensko-politické dění.

Wollasch také založila společně s Bárou Smékalovou umělecké duo NEWkus, jehož prostřednictvím od roku 2016 navazují komunikaci s širokou veřejností. Wollasch i Smékalová v něm experimentují s možnostmi tělově zaměřené performance ve spojení s kýčem, trash estetikou a výraznými kostýmy. Rané projekty uskupení se nesly zejména v duchu nutnosti reagovat na aktuální politické, sociální a kulturní dění, například u performance Syria Ambulance (2017), která byla okamžitou odpovědí na chemický útok v Chán Šajchúnu v témže roce. Veřejný happening COVID pochod (2021) do umělecké praxe NEWkusu přirozeně integroval i pandemickou situaci a tematizoval tělo jako veřejný a kolektivní útvar, který se během obtížných období stává objektem politické kontroly a sledování. V online výstavě Vězení (2020) autorky přizpůsobují své tvůrčí metody pandemickým podmínkám a odkazují na uměleckou disciplínu mail artu. Zvolenými postupy inklinují často k hravému až absurdnímu zadání, úkolům a výzvám, které se stávají předmětem pečlivé reflexe a dokumentace. V mnohých ohledech navazují na uměleckou tradici hnutí Fluxus a ohledávání možností nového, inkluzivního prostoru, ve kterém se stírá hranice mezi žitím a uměním.

Sara Wollasch je absolventkou Ateliéru tělového designu pod vedením Lenky Klodové a Ateliéru sochařství 2 u Jana Ambrůze a Pavla Korbičky na FaVU VUT v Brně. Absolvovala stáž v Ateliéru hostujícího pedagoga u Przemyslawa Kwieka, kde působila jako asistentka. Vedle řady performativních akcí představila svou tvorbu na výstavách především v kontextu nezávislé umělecké scény, například v pražské galerii Studia ALTA a Galerii Ferdinanda Baumanna nebo Vašulka Kitchen Brno. Účastnila se řady sympozií a festivalů, například Festivalu nahých forem, MFDF Jihlava nebo Malamut International Festival.

Eva Drexlerová

Sara Wollasch’s (* 1997) work is primarily concerned with physicality, questions relating to care and the search for new forms of coexistence and collaboration. Her work refers to love, playfulness and humour, but there are also elements of self-irony and a kind of peculiar nature. It is this purely natural and intuitive approach to life that the audience encounters during her performances, and they are often confronted with the nakedness or stylisation of the artist’s body. Recent projects in this context include, for example, the performance Breasts (2021), in which nudity is both a tool in the struggle against various forms of social or political oppression and a manifestation of female power. The human body as a primary means of communication is often intertwined with the artist’s sculptural practice and installation work; casting body parts from plaster and using sculptural objects as singular actors in individual happenings and events, as in Venus, a tribute to Kateřina Olivová (2022) and NEST (2023). In addition to her object installations, Wollash also expresses herself through video, for example in UNITED COLOURS OF (2022), which is part of a series of videos that react to contemporary socio-political events.

In addition to her own artistic work, Wollasch founded the artistic duo NEWkus with Bára Smékalová, through which they have been communicating with the general public since 2016. In NEWkus, the artists experiment with the possibilities of body-oriented performance in conjunction with kitsch, trash aesthetics and distinctive costumes. The pair’s early projects were mainly done in the spirit of needing to respond to current political, social and cultural events, as with the performance Syria Ambulance (2017), which was an immediate response to the chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun in the same year. The public happening COVID March (2021) naturally integrated the pandemic situation into NEWkus’ artistic practice, thematizing the body as a public and collective formation that becomes an object of political control and surveillance during difficult periods. In the online exhibition Prison (2020), the artists adapted their creative methods to pandemic conditions and reverted to the artistic discipline of mail art. Their chosen methods often tend towards playful and even absurd assignments; tasks and challenges that become the subject of careful reflection and documentation. In many ways they draw on the artistic tradition of the Fluxus movement and the exploration of the possibilities of a new, inclusive space in which the boundaries between life and art are blurred.

Sara Wollasch graduated from the Body Design Studio under Lenka Klodová and the Sculpture Studio 2 under Jan Ambrůz at the FFA BUT. She completed an internship at the Visiting Teacher’s Studio under Przemyslaw Kwiek, where she worked as an assistant. In addition to several performative events, she presented her work at exhibitions, mainly in the context of the independent art scene, such as the Studio ALTA Gallery and Ferdinand Baumann Gallery in Prague and Vašulka Kitchen Brno. She participated in several symposia and festivals, such as the Festival of Naked Forms, MFDF Jihlava, and Malamut International Festival.

Tomáš Zdvořáček Tomáš Zdvořáček (* 1980) se věnuje především figurativnímu a narativnímu sochařství. Náměty mnohdy čerpá z vědecko-fantastické literatury, přírodovědy, mytologie a také dějin umění. Jeho realizace často nefigurují v galerii, ale ve veřejném prostoru nebo volné přírodě.

Sochařské řemeslo se v jeho přístupu přetavilo v nová média v podobě 3D modelování a 3D tisku, zůstal mu však důraz na klasickou figuraci a realistické pojetí hmoty. Zájem o nová média se v jeho tvorbě projevuje také formou experimentování s virtuální realitou a s možnostmi jejího uměleckého využití. Jeho realizace se vyznačují monumentalitou, ale i pečlivým detailním zpracováním. Věnuje se také kresbě.

Zdvořáček remediuje literární nebo kunsthistorické motivy a nachází pro ně nová vyjádření v sochařském médiu. V díle Naslouchač (2022) se inspiroval obrazy Hieronyma Bosche a v soše provedl surrealistický motiv chodícího ucha. U některých děl (například Morfeus, 2020) je míra inspirace volnější. Řecký bůh snění je ztvárněn abstraktně v kvádrovitém objektu s abstraktní žilnatou strukturou. Upomíná na podivné a nevysvětlitelné větvení snové narace ve vědomí snícího. V díle Zafara (2022) je vyobrazen sedící anděl, který má nasazená sluchátka. Vzniká tak kontrast mezi mytologicko-religiózní postavou a někým, koho můžeme běžně potkat na ulici. Tato socha v životní velikosti vznikla pomocí 3D tiskárny.

Zdvořáček dále pracuje s organickým tvaroslovím a inspiruje se také mikroskopickou fotografií. V díle Virus (2017) tak inspiraci vědeckými metodami dále aplikuje na formální aspekty díla a pomyslný virus tiskne na prachové tiskárně. Vzniká zde zajímavé napětí mezi obsahem a formou díla. Jeho diplomový projekt nese název The rooms (2023).

Tomáš Zdvořáček je absolventem Ateliéru sochařství 1 na FaVU VUT v Brně pod vedením Michala Gabriela. V letech 1997–2001 studoval Výtvarné zpracování keramiky a porcelánu na SUPŠ a VOŠ v Hodoníně. Pravidelně vystavuje např. na výstavě Sochy mezi květy v Botanické zahradě v Brně.

František Fekete

Tomáš Zdvořáček (* 1980) focuses mainly on figurative and narrative sculpture. He frequently finds inspiration in science fiction literature, natural science, mythology, and art history. His creations often do not appear in galleries, but in public spaces and the open air.

The sculptural craft in his approach has transformed into new media in the form of 3D modelling and 3D printing, but his emphasis on classical figuration and a realistic conception of matter has remained. His interest in new media is also reflected in his experimentation with virtual reality and its artistic possibilities.

His creations are often characterised by monumentality and meticulous detailing. Zdvořáček is also involved in drawing.

Zdvořáček remakes literary and historical art motifs and finds new expressions for them in the sculptural medium. In his work Listener (2022), he was inspired by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, and in the sculpture he implemented the surreal motif of a walking ear. In some works (such as Morpheus, 2020) the degree of inspiration is looser. Here, the Greek god of dreaming is represented abstractly as a blocky object with an abstract veined structure. It recalls the strange and inexplicable branching of the dream narrative in a dreamer’s consciousness. In the work Zafara (2022) a seated angel is depicted wearing headphones.

This creates a contrast between a mythological-religious figure and someone who can be commonly met in the streets. This lifesize sculpture was created using a 3D printer.

Zdvořáček also works with organic morphology and is inspired by microscopic photography. In the work Virus (2017), he further applies the inspiration of scientific methods to the formal aspects of the work, and prints an imaginary virus on a powder printer. An interesting tension between the content and form of the work is thus created. Zdvořáček presents his final project The rooms (2023) as part of the diploma exhibition.

Tomáš Zdvořáček graduated from the Sculpture Studio 1 at the FFA BUT under the supervision of Michal Gabriel. Between 1997 and 2001 he studied Fine Art of Ceramics and Porcelain at the Secondary Professional School of Applied Art and Higher Professional School of Applied Art in Hodonín. He regularly exhibits, for example, at the Sculptures Among Flowers exhibition at the Botanical Garden in Brno.
