proto 2 Carrying on from my first prototype, I wanted to redesign the card holder. After looking closer at my current wallet, I noticed that instead of full length pockets, it used a small length of material as a divider in one large pocket.
different methods, sewing with and against the folds, as well as incorporating it into the inseam. I found that sewing in the direction of the folds (RHS of image) produced a far nicer result than sewing in the opposite direction of the folds.
To copy this, I drew out a set of divider which I hemmed the top of and left the bottom unhemmed as it won’t be seen.
An inseam also worked well, however did make the wallet more chunky than desired.
From there I overlapped and stitched them together. From doing this I learned another tidbit of information about desserto knit - that it is much easier to sew in one direction than the other, due to the directionality of the stretch in the material. I tested sewing this created pocket directly onto a backing piece of desserto stiff in three
However, this prototype ended up being far larger than the previous ones, so I need to keep the seam allowances in mind in future prototypes in order to allow them to line up. So What?
What Now?
• Discovered more about directionality of the materials
• Refine this idea into a smaller shell
• Created a decent pocket section
• Think about manufacture regarding material directionality
