Following on from my experiments with the material, i tried an initial attempt to create a pocket in the wallet. In order to do this, I layered a thinner layer of desserto knit over a wider layer of desserto stiff, then created an inseam to create a pocketed front. In doing this I learnt some valuable lessons about working with this material. Desserto knit stretches when sewing, especially when sewing to the much less stretchy desserto stiff. This results in ugly banding and wonky seams. This should be avoided in visible stitching in future revisions. Even at four layers thick, my sewing machine was struggling with sewing without manual advancement. I need to look into methods of flattening or pinning in order to make it easier for the foot to go over the material, Depending on the thickness of material, I need to adjust the tension on the sewing machine otherwise it creates long loops and the bobbin gets caught. Creating a single pocket that goes around the entire wallet side did not look good, so I will need to re-imagine this in the next proto. Turning corners is hellish when sewing more than two layers. This again should be considered in the final pattern design.
