e began Year Five with Mrs Kelly as our teacher. She was a great teacher who took us on our camp to Waroona. We did many fun things like canoeing, abseiling and going on a horrifying flying fox! We all had an exhilarating time. At the end of the term Mrs Kelly left due to family reasons. We were all very sad to see her go. Ms Marwick became our teacher in Term Two. This term our theme was all about sport. Ms Marwick brought in different sporting equipment varying from dartboards to skis. This term was a big term because we learnt to knit and crochet. We began knitting squares to make blankets for the needy. It was very successful and with the help of grandmothers and mums we made twelve blankets. We also grew plants for science. Everyone could choose a seed to grow, like a dwarf bean, a chilli or mint. Most seeds grew into beautiful healthy plants. In Term Three our theme was ‘Water’. We had a student teacher, Miss James, who stayed with us all term. She was very nice and did many fun things with us like taking us on an excursion to the old Maritime museum in Fremantle. Early in the term we celebrated N.A.I.D.O.C. week. Mr. John Jacky came in and told us all about his Aboriginal background and showed us how to make a spear. We also made a shell picture frame, with a photograph of ourselves, for our dads on Fathers Day ‘Cars and Transport’ was our theme for the last term. Our Speech Night item is also about cars, but cars from movies. We included the cars from ‘Grease’, the James Bond movies, ‘The Wiggles’ and Batman and Robin. We have to rehearse and practise for six weeks but it will be really worth it. Tom Metcalf, James Cummins and Ms Marwick.
