Vale Matthew Patrick Williamson

Mr Barry McKenna

Head of Year 11 What made 2003 interesting for Year Eleven was that it was the largest year group in the college’s history. On the first day of the new school year, one hundred and eighty nine students came into seven Year Eleven homerooms. I would like to refer to some of the highlights experienced by this group as they began their journey into post

compulsory education. As in previous years, the peer support programme began when forty-five students from Year Eleven attended Camp Kelly. The aim of the programme was to have these students introduce the Year Eight boys to the rich traditions of college life and help them make the transition to high school easier. The relaxed surroundings of Camp Kelly and the training provided to the Year Eleven boys by Mr Brad Nugent made this a rewarding experience for all involved. Christian Service was also a highlight of Term One. In its twelfth year, the community service programme aims to put the students’ faith into action. Many service providers gave excellent comments about the boys’ commitment to their tasks. Thanks to the organisation by Mrs Marya Stewart, this programme continues to be a very positive aspect of school life at Trinity. TermTwo began with each homeroom spending a day off campus in an Encounter Retreat Programme. Students reflected on their Christian Service and considered the importance of their spiritual life, while getting to know their own classmates better. Thanks to Br Rob Callen from the Campus Ministry whose efforts ensured that these retreats were a spiritual time of reflection for the students.

Many merit and academic achievement certificates rewarded the year group during the year. Students also performed well in National Science and Maths Competitions. Many outstanding individual achievements on the sporting fields highlighted the year. Across all fields of endeavour, the Year Eleven students were there to meet the challenge. Toconclude, my thanks to each of the homeroom teachers for the great time and effort they have given to the students during the year. Special thanks to Fr. Michael McMahon for his support to the year group. Finally, I wish all the students an enjoyable and successful year in 2004 at Trinity College.

Barry McKenna

Head of Year Eleven

25 February 1987 – 30 July 2003

Sadly, early in Term Three the boys heard of the passing of Matthew Williamson. Matthew had been a member of the college community since Year four. His willingness to live life to the full had been inspirational to all his peers and especially his close friends. His funeral at the College Chapel and guard

of honour by all of the Year Eleven boys was truly a special event.
