Hockey

While the scoresheet would suggest that the 2003 season has been disappointing, this season we have been developing our First XI Hockey squad and hopefully set in motion a prosperous future for Trinity Hockey. We started the season with a good win over Guildford, a much older and more experienced side. As the season progressed, the opposition became tougher and tougher. The team showed great resolve under tremendous pressure from many much more experienced and well-trained sides. Wesuffered narrow losses to Christchurch, Scotch, and Hale in the first round. We put up a great fight against both Aquinas and Wesley, but collapsed under continued attacks on our defence. In the second round, our fighting team lost to Hale and Guildford although the team had sticks down until the final whistle.

The boys in the 2003 First XI have all enjoyed the opportunity of competing at this level and have become brothers in arms.

The future of Trinity hockey and its success now rests with the boys in Years Eight and Nine who decide to play this great international sport, which requires great skill and commitment.

Although we did not win many games in 2003, the boys in the First XI played beyond all expectations and I know that each team member has enjoyed the year as much as I have.

On behalf of the team I would like to thank Mr Adam Scott and Mr Eddie O’Brien for coaching us this year, I would like to thank the members of this great team for making my last year of PSA hockey so memorable. Wegreatly appreciated the fantastic parent support, their catering and the mid-match pearls of wisdom. It was an honour and a pleasure.
