GIG (Guys In Groove)
In the year of inception, Guys In Groove literally hurled themselves onto the stage with an energy and excitement normally reserved for winning rugby teams. Weexplored many styles of dance and movement including break-dance, gymnastics and funk. Thanks to the incredible creativity of the talented Ms Bott, who used the members’ very different talents to full capacity, GIG developed a fusion of these styles which – coupled with a distinctive ‘edginess’ – quickly gave us a unique and powerful signature. Special mention must go to Andrew and Robbie for their breaking skills, Desmond and Elliott for their fantastic gymnastics and Adam for his saxophone entry that really set the scene for our major work this year – Make or Break – which explored the idea of dance as a unifying force to overcome some of the divisions in our society. The guys in GIG really got into the concept, which proved so successful that we won the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival’s Senior Creative Dance Award, and were treated to screaming crowds at the CSPAF Final Concert, Catholic Education Week performance in Forrest Chase and Trinity Speech Night. On behalf of the Year Twelve members, Darryl, Andrew, Matt and myself, I hope that all current members of the group continue next year, and that new members will take up the challenge to Make or Break! Good luck to all of you.
