The 2003 Blackwood Cup season was always going to be one of rebuilding for Trinity College Basketball. The First V squad members were determined to make a name for themselves and began with promising preseason performances. The new members of the squad stepped up to the First V level admirably. In particular, Fletcher Creelman and Chris Turnbull made an impact. The result was that Trinity managed four strong wins during the season. Unfortunately, the team sustained losses to Christ Church and eventual champions, Aquinas. Despite these losses the players are to be applauded for their endeavour at both ends of the court and for the continuing development of a team approach. Highlights of the season were the leadership of Brett Reimers and Toby De Lacy, the offensive brilliance of Alex Phelan and the uncompromising defence of Adrian Romato. Season 2003 was very much a team effort.
The Second V had an outstanding 2003 season. Without a doubt the highlight of the season was the final game victory by five points in a tight battle. All players were superb and their never say die attitude was brilliant to watch.
The Third V also had a very successful season as they completed the season with five wins and one loss. The significant improvement of the skills produced by each player added to this success. The 10As dominated their season, taking on all comers with flair and a determined, never-say-die attitude. The 10Bs record of two wins and four losses does not offer a true reflection of their season. The players put in exceptionally good efforts, learning the rewards of playing disciplined basketball. It looks like the future for basketball at Trinity is very bright indeed with our middle school teams dominating their respective competitions. The 9As completed an unbeaten season in the first term competition. The 9Bs also had an excellent season, playing strong, determined basketball and only losing one game. Both the Year 8As and the Year 8Bs won all their games this season. All players must be congratulated on their dedication, attitude and sportsmanship this term.
Our gratitude goes out to our coaching staff and in particular to the efforts of Myles Kelly who has worked tirelessly to help transform Trinity basketball. Janine Williams also joined the coaching staff this year and made an immediate impact. The benefit of having such professional expertise available to our players cannot be overestimated.
Thanks also to our dedicated managers for their support during the season. Finally, the successful 2003 basketball season would not have occurred without the commitment and team spirit shown by our players. Thank you for your great efforts.

During the summer sporting season first term, we had four basketball teams in our Junior School. The A team comprised mainly Year Sevens; the B team with Years Six and Sevens; the C team was a Year Five and Six team and the D team comprised many promising Year Five players, who were playing their first code sports for Trinity College. All teams trained Monday afternoons, and represented their college with outstanding sportsmanship on the basketball courts each Thursday afternoon. On the 10th April, the Trinity A Basketball team embarked on a long day of basketball. We were representing Trinity College at the Lightning Carnival. There was real lightning on the day. We were the only code that was able to carry on with the Lightning Carnival as planned as we were playing indoors. We played six intense games against Aquinas, Guildford Grammar, Wesley, Scotch, Hale, and Christ Church. We won two of the games. In the games we lost, it was very close. Overall, we came fourth, but we really enjoyed ourselves. The Trinity A team would like to thank Mrs Kelly, Mr Godwin, Mr Hamer, and Mr Repsevicius for coaching and organising us.
