The 2003 Alcock Cup Season started with an intense preseason programme that not only focused on our fitness but also skills. Mr John Montagu was back at Trinity as head coach, after several years’ break and was thirsty for another flag. With his never-ending enthusiasm, the boys were in for a good year. Wewere also aware that Mr Tony Curtis, who is such an ambassador for the sport, was in his last year at the college. With this motivation in mind, we began our season. The highlight for me was halfway through the season between Hale School and Trinity when we had both been undefeated. Hale School came out strong, blasting a six-goal lead at half time. After an inspiring earful from the coach and with the leadership of the senior boys, we dominated Hale School in the last half. My mates showed their true character that day. The feeling after that game was indescribable; I felt the famous Trinity College spirit that brought the boys even more strongly together. At the grand final, we again played Hale School. Unfortunately, we were defeated. This shattered our outright victory dreams, for although we still won the cup, Hale and Aquinas shared it with us. Congratulations to the second XVIII who did well, taking out their division.

I would also like to thank the coaches, Mr John Montagu for his tireless efforts and enthusiasm, Mr Matthew Hamer for his development and mateship, Mr Redden, Mr Delacy and Mr O’Keeffe for their behind the scene organisation, and all the parents.
