Student Roll Call

The P.L. Duffy Resource Centre has a central place in college life. We are living in an information age and a primary objective of education is to learn how to identify, locate, organize, and present needed information in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner. As technologies change, students need to develop skills to manage complex information formats. The school library, as an integral part of the total curriculum, is the vehicle that provides opportunities for students to achieve these skills and to foster a lifelong interest in both reading and knowledge. Weare very lucky to have a pleasant environment to put these objectives into action. The new shelves and painting from last year are a continuing delight as staff, students and visitors all remark how light, bright and welcoming the library is. New additions to the library stock allowed us to lend both CD ROMs and audio books and to bring our fiction collection to 4600 and non-fiction to 8700. The Book Club, which we hold in conjunction with Mercedes College, was a success again this year,

with eager readers trying new books and discussing them, enjoying Readers’ Theatre and delighting in afternoon tea in the libraries. The website continues to provide links to assist students with their studies and assignments. This facility is available at home as well as school (http://library.trinity.wa.edu.au). Many staff and students use the search option to make the website their initial search engine. Many staff and students from outside the Mrs Rosemary Horton school also use the website, making it a great outreach of

Teacher Librarian our educational programme. Each month, on average, over 56000 internet users visit the library website. One aspect of my work this year was team-teaching with core subject teachers. Mr Quartermaine (Head of ICT) and I shared this project. I worked with Year Eight and Nine English and Society and Environment teachers to assist integrate Information and Communication Technology into their classes. We held lessons for one period a week in the computer laboratories enabling students’ access to computers during the class time. I would like to thank my tireless and marvellous library officers, Jenni Properjohn and Catherine Hamilton. Grateful thanks to ICT staff who remain faithful in giving us assistance, and the administration who continue to support us in every way.
