Head of Senior School Administration

I

am continually inspired by the enthusiasm that our senior students demonstrate for the wide variety of opportunities that are available at Trinity College. The graduating Class of 2007 are no exception to this trend as they have made a significant and Mr Martin Tobin wholehearted contribution Head of Senior School to sport, the arts, Campus Ministry, and Liturgical and Sacramental events.

Senior School Council I take this opportunity to thank all members of the College’s Senior School Council and teaching staff for their efforts and cooperation throughout the year. The Council continues to focus on the implementation of the newly developed Courses of Study for 2008 and beyond. The Council views the implementation of these courses as an opportunity for the College to provide a relevant and diverse curriculum that will meet our students’ needs next year and in the future. The collective experience of the members of the Senior Council and their diligence in ensuring that they are informed and engaged with the implementation and ongoing review of these courses, ensures that students and parents can be confident in its capacity to lead the Senior School through this process. Moreover, the Council continues to work towards ensuring that the College continues to be a leader in boys’ education through its pastoral and curriculum initiatives. The development and implementation of an increased number of Vocational and Education (VET) certificate programs for 2008 and 2009 will ensure that our senior students are provided with the necessary skills and competencies to engage with training and work in a wider range of industries and enterprises.

coordinating the Visual and Performing Arts portfolio have put forward an excellent submission for the formation of a Trinity College drama club for the future. I take this opportunity to thank all of the Prefects and the Class of 2008 for their support and encouragement during my first year in the role of Head of Senior School and I wish them the best of success in their future endeavours. The process for the nomination and selection of the Prefects for 2007 commenced in Term Three and the response from the student body was most pleasing. The Prefects were formally presented to the College community at Speech Night. Congratulations to Joshua Hicks (Head Prefect) and Matthew Cowie (Deputy Head Prefect) for their selection as senior leaders for 2008!

Heads of Year The College is most fortunate to have a dedicated team of Heads of Year in the Senior School to assist students with their academic and pastoral needs. Next year Mr John Montagu, Mr Barry McKenna and Mrs Eileen Lane will continue this work in Years 10, 11 and 12 respectively, and I thank them for their continued support and assistance throughout the year.

Closing Remarks World Youth Day 2008 presents a special opportunity for a number of our students and staff who will undertake a pilgrimage to Sydney culminating with World Youth Day 2008 celebrations and events with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI in July of next year. This event has had a phenomenal effect on the lives of millions of young people since its inception. I encourage all members of our College community to continue to keep our pilgrims in their thoughts and prayers as they prepare for what will be a life shaping opportunity. We hope to return to our community renewed in our faith and inspired by the Holy Spirit!

Senior Leadership This year’s College Prefects led the student body with distinction in all pillars of the College. Moreover, they have been instrumental in the implementation of a revised model of leadership including the formation of student leadership portfolios that represent the diversity of activities at Trinity College: Faith Formation; Academic; Sport; Visual and Performing Arts, and Social. This model of student leadership has facilitated a more meaningful experience for our student leaders. Examples of this include the participation of a number of this year’s senior leaders representing students’ interests and concerns on the Trinity College Career Development Council which has culminated with the initiation of a Career Carousel as part of future career education programs at Trinity. In addition senior leaders
