The students at Trinity Junior School have been very busy in 2007 with active participation in the JSHAA Performing Arts Festival as well as the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival. In Term 1 volunteers from Years 4-7 were called for the production of the musical The Dragon Returns. They rehearsed for several months preparing this hilarious skit complete with countless knights and peasants, a king, a cruel villain, a mythical dragon a brave hero and of course a beautiful princess! The musical was presented to the Junior School, an audience of children at the Perth Concert Hall and finally to parents at the Concert Hall to thunderous applause! Many boys went to the Concert Hall for the daytime performance and were able to view other schools’ musical efforts and loudly applaud their own “merry men” on stage. In Term 1 students in all the school ensembles also performed at the annual Junior Music Afternoon in March. Preparation also began for the Middle School Music Night in May and the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival in August. These events provide an opportunity for the students in the Year 4-5 Choir, Year 6-7 Choir, special Year 4-7 Choir, band, instrumental ensembles, instrumental and vocal soloists to display their musical skills. The Middle School Music Night always allows the boys and their parents to view the growth of skills and commitment shown by older boys, to which the younger boys can aspire. This year the Junior School choirs were involved in the liturgical choral section of the festival for the first time, as well as the primary choral section. The many months of rehearsing culminated in a satisfying display of talent and discipline for the students working together as a team! Meanwhile classroom music sessions continue to happen alongside this very busy ensemble work. The boys participate in singing, percussion work, practise

Mrs Elizabeth Leith listening and written skills as well as experiences to Junior Music Specialist broaden their musical knowledge and appreciation of music. Their creativity is challenged via group and individual music making assignments. The Music Program was enhanced by incursions from the Silver Threads Band, a Musical Viva event, visits by the Middle School ensembles and excursions to a WASO concert and St John of God Hospital for Christmas carolling by the band and choir ensembles. As the Junior School Concert and Presentation evening looms, the boys are busy preparing new songs to the theme of Off We Go, a concept based on the Dr Seuss book Oh the Places You’ll Go, which explores opportunities awaiting the boys in the future. It is definitely a highlight of the busy Junior School Calendar. All the extra rehearsals and months of planning come to fruition on the night in the grinning faces of the students on stage. My work at Trinity is constantly affirmed by the pride and passion shown by the students as they take part in the music program. With Christmas carol rehearsals and Graduation rehearsals ahead, another year at Trinity draws to an end.
