Volleyball
Trinity Volleyball enjoyed a very rewarding season across all teams, highlighting the emerging strength of Trinity College in PSA Volleyball. This year proved to be an outstanding season for the middle school volleyball, in which both the Middle A and Middle B
Mr Brendan Chapman Volleyball Coach teams finished undefeated. After a rigorous pre-season camp, armed with greater levels of fitness and skill, all of our teams took to the courts with great enthusiasm and a collective goal to improve our standing within the PSA competition. Changing our coaching approach at Middle School level, teams were taught specialised setting, attacking and defensive systems, similar to those that are run at 1st level. With a more strategic element added to our game, our teams were very competitive against the opposition. The middle A’s and B’s were undefeated through the season with six victories and no losses. Of special importance were those players who consistently filled C and D teams over the season. Having such depth of players directly contributed to increased levels of skill and competition in Trinity teams over the term. Special mention must go to coaches Mr Bobby Emmanuel, Ms Janelle Pagoda, Mr Brendan Chapman and Mr Sam Bandy who produced outstanding results with their teams. In the senior squad, the standard of play across the athletes has reached its highest level in the sports short PSA history. The Year 10 team made a very successful transition into faster and more complex volleyball under the guidance of Mr Brendan Chapman and old boy Sam Bandy. The improvement of the boys’ technical knowledge of the sport and skills has been excellent, and has led to a great result, finishing equal first with Aquinas. The students implemented more complex attacking and defensive systems, and have developed into specialist positions on court. Tim Mettam has been selected in the Under 17 State Team, specialist setter Jack Dart has been selected in the Under 16 State School Boys Team, whilst many other teams players have shown the ability to take their game to the next level. The 2nd VI Volleyball had plenty of potential and added to the depth in the senior playing list vying for a 1st team spot. They had a respectable season finishing under the guidance of Mr Craig Adams, whilst our 3rd VI Volleyball had an enjoyable season coached by Miss Rita Basilio.
The 1st VI Volleyball Team continued their excellent standing in the PSA after finishing second in the 2006 fourth term competition. Their determination to achieve their goal of winning the Brother Carrigg Shield has never been higher, and the team work and intensity during training and games lifting to impressive levels in order for the team to achieve their goal.
Unfortunately the team finished with 5 wins and 1 loss to eventual Shield winners Aquinas, however the Trinity team finished the season well above all other PSA teams and were considered a genuine title threat. Throughout the season the team was led admirably by Captain Isaac Dart and Vice Captain Mark McKenna. Sam Cadwallader delivered solid and consistent performances as the teams specialist setter, whilst Josh Marinoni has been selected in the under 17 State team. Saxon Ames had an excellent 2007 season as one of leagues best middle hitters and blockers, whilst State under 19 representative Connor Smith was a dominant force across the competition. Although the team fell short of their ultimate goal, they showed great ability and character throughout the season and should be proud of their performance.
Special mention must go to all of the parents and students involved in Trinity Volleyball. Your hard work and commitment have contributed towards a very successful 2007 season. The future of Trinity Volleyball looks very strong.
