With my impending resignation as President of the College Auxiliary a decision was made towards the end of 2006 to move the AGM and election of office bearers to mid 2007. This allowed for more continuity in coordinating numerous events, especially given the hectic nature of first term and the appointment of our new Principal, Mr Ivan Banks. The AGM saw the election of Martina Stroud to the position of President and Sharon Maher as Vice President. Lee Loughnan and Kathryn Taggart graciously accepted re-election to their positions of Secretary and Treasurer respectively, with Annemarie Harris taking on the role of Vice President for the Junior School.

The New Parents Morning Tea, held on the first day of the school year, was once again well attended giving new parents the opportunity to meet each other. The Prefect’s Investiture ran smoothly, though the staffroom was a little cramped. It is a wonderful way to honour the new Prefects and their parents. Along with the Parent Information evenings, it was a very busy beginning to the year, and things ran smoothly only with the help of our volunteers.

The Grandparents’ Morning Tea was again a wonderful morning for the delighted and proud Grandparents of our Year 8 boys. Some wonderful fathers of our Junior School boys served Morning Tea for the annual Mothers’ Day event – with a little direction from the Auxiliary. It was nice to see a man with his hands in the sink! Following last year’s successful Melbourne Cup Luncheon at the Hyatt, the decision was made to return to the venue for this year and a successful day was had.

As our project for the Springtime Fair, the Auxiliary committed a large part of the year to preparing our Bring a Plate Cookbook. Recipes were expertly typed and collated by Lee Loughnan ready for printing and Debra Fiorina assisted in liaising with the printer. In conjunction with this, the Auxiliary conducted an Art Competition in the Junior School for illustrations for each section of the book. The Committee launched the Bring a Plate Cookbook at our Annual Morning Tea on August 24th. Vince Garreffa – butcher, chef and radio personality – was an entertaining Guest Speaker. The Morning Tea was highly successful with approximately 250 people attending.

With funds raised last year the Auxiliary have made the decision to contribute towards the new reading amphitheatre in the Junior School after the costs of producing the cookbook have been met.

It has been fantastic to have some new faces at our meetings this year. In this regard we would particularly like to thank Mary Greenshields for stepping forward and maintaining items in the Auxiliary kitchen to make it more functional. Lee Loughnan, also fairly new to the Auxiliary, has stepped up to the position of Secretary and has been invaluable with her professional minute-taking skills, efficient communication and correspondence. Lee’s assistance with the cookbook was paramount in its production. Kathryn Taggart has taken on the role of Treasurer, and we thank her for her diligence and organisation.

It is with great pleasure and slight trepidation that I take on the role of President of the Auxiliary, knowing that I have large footsteps to follow! Marilyn Harries has been a wonderful mentor and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with her over the years. I would like to thank Marilyn for her outstanding contribution to the College over her 21 years, not only with the College Auxiliary, but in so many other areas of College life. I wish Marilyn well in her last year at Trinity in 2008.

To the Year 12 mums who are leaving us this year – Adriana, Frances, Val, Debra and Zoë – thank you for all your efforts and for giving your time so freely. You will be missed! I wish you and your sons happiness and health for the future.

Finally, I would like to thank the present Committee members for all their hard work and many talents and I look forward to their continued enthusiastic support in 2008.

Martina Stroud has been a magnificent Vice President and is now capably filling the position of President. I thank Martina for her support over my years as President and I have enjoyed her counsel and friendship. To all the other stalwarts of the Auxiliary: Adriana, Annemarie, Debra, Frances, Gina, Lee, Lida, Lisa, Kathryn, Mary, Sharon, Viola and Zoë, my gratitude for the many times you have willingly volunteered. Thank you for keeping the Auxiliary functioning. I hope many new members will be able to experience the companionship and special friendship that develops from working together over time. The unselfish donation of your time and effort is, to me, what epitomises the Auxiliary and the “Trinity Spirit”. By volunteering your services to the College you are helping to keep that Spirit alive.

As my time at Trinity comes nearer to completion (21 years) I hope the Auxiliary will continue to develop and increase in membership. I am delighted to have had the opportunity to enjoy your friendship and I wish the Committee every future success.

College Auxiliary meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 9.00am in the College Boardroom, please come and join us.
