Modified Games

In Term 3 Mr Hamer said that we were going to make a modified game with partners, I chose Finlay and Coombsy (James. C) It was fun making the game up because we could all contribute and we had some extra laughs from Finlay! Mr Matt Hamer Year 6 Blue When we had all finalised our plans the Year 5s came to play our great games. Our game was better than we thought it was going to be. I had a try myself and it was an active and fun game, we also got good responses from the teachers which meant our group was going to get good marks. I think our game will be played by Trinity students for years to come!

Ben’s Visit

When Ben Wyatt, the Labor State Representative for Victoria Park visited the Year 6 classes it was a great experience for myself and all the Year 6 students. To have a politician at such a high seat of Parliament at school was exciting, and because we have been studying the role of Parliament we were familiar with his position. He told us that he works all day dealing with complaints and comments from citizens. By the way he talked to us, I could tell how dedicated he was and that he loved his job; to take his precious time to come and teach us about Parliament was very kind. I learnt a lot from him and I am sure that my classmates did too. Thanks Ben.

The Museum

In Term 3 we had an excursion with the other Year 6 class to the Perth Museum. We looked at the megamouth shark first, it was really long. Then we split into several groups. I was with Mr Hamer’s group and we started off at the National Treasures, I saw some really interesting items such as the world Olympic torch and Ned Kelly’s helmet. We saw some skeletons of gorillas and I also saw a creature that could roll itself up into a shell to protect itself from predators. The trip was very interesting and very educational. Thanks Mr Hamer!

Worm Farm

This awesome year in Term 1 Kevin the worm man came and visited us. He told us all about compost worms. They will eat anything that is organic they will even eat worms that have died. After we learnt about the worms we went out and made our own worm farm. Kevin brought a few buckets of his worms and we could hold them. They were a bit slimy and they tickled your hand when they moved. Then we got to hold their castings (poo), fortunately it didn’t smell. Kevin then told as all about worm wiz. He told us that when the water drips through the damp soil it picks up bits of castings. The water turns out brown but, it is really good for the garden.

Electoral Commission and Parliament House

When 6 Blue received a note to say that we were going to the Electoral Commission and Parliament house we were all excited about learning about Western Australia’s most recognised politicians. When we arrived at the Electoral Commission, Nigel, our guide, took us to a room where a digital robot named Viv was talking to us about what happens on the day of an election. Nigel then took us to a smaller room where he showed us how to vote in a voting booth.

We then took a five minute walk to Parliament House where we went into a red room which is the Legislative Council and a blue room (normally green) which is the Legislative Assembly. In the Legislative Assembly room eleven students including myself performed a role play which was a debate about performance enhancing drugs in sports.

I think my classmates enjoyed the day as much as I did.

Josh Rouphael Our Marble Timers

This year in Design Technology Mr Hamer said we were going to make marble timers. It was so much fun making them. I thought that it was the most fun I had in the whole year. There was no marble timer that was the same size, shape or style. Also to make the task harder we had to make it set something off like dominoes. Noah’s set off party poppers and Simon’s was like a game. All the marble timers were unique and amazing. No one could have been disappointed with their efforts. Thanks Mr Hamer

Our Assembly

Every year we have a class assembly. I think that everyone enjoys it, especially me. This year Mr Hamer wanted us to design the parts for our assembly. Mr Hamer said “I want you to create an advertisement.” We worked in groups and had some class clowns that got the funny parts. We practised lots and lots adding props, a stage and six advertisements. This was going to turn out to be fantastic! Our first advertisement was a great opening. Our last advertisement was also a great finish. I would have to say this was the funniest, most enjoyable and most fun assembly ever!

The Albatross

In Term 2 we learnt about Antarctica. We learnt about the environment and the animals. Then one day Mr Hamer said that we were going to make a life sized Albatross and he said that we were going to make it out of paper rods. At first I thought it was going to be really hard but as we got started it turned out to be easy. Almost every day Mr Hamer would choose a group of five boys to go down and work on it. The group that I was in was the first one to start the paper mache. After a while we finished doing the paper mache but we had to do another layer this time in white. After a while we started to paint it. Then a few days later Mr Hamer and a few boys put up the albatross in the Library. That very day the whole class got a picture taken for the annual. I think that was one of my favourite activities this year.
