We have enjoyed a terrific season culminating in winning the Darlot Cup for the fifth time since the College entered the PSA competition in 1968.

The Darlot Cup competition proved to be one of the most keenly contested in a number of years with Trinity winning the competition from a fast finishing Hale School. Wins over Wesley College and Hale School stamped Trinity’s authority on the competition. Statistics of 1,639 runs, 78 wickets and 85.89 Darlot Cup points provided hard evidence of the overall improvement within the team.

In terms of 1st team selection there were three significant phases to the season with the first of these being the Newson Cup in Term Four. The players learnt a lot but there is often a gap between learning and performance. As a result gains in terms of performance were not significant.

The Nudgee Tour was undertaken during January and we started to play some better cricket for longer periods of time, but often lapsed into old habits and we didn’t win as many games as we should have. One of the highlights of the tour was Travis Colyer’s innings of 109 against Nudgee College which ensured his selection in the Australasian Christian Brothers’ Cricket Team for 2007. During his innings Travis was ably supported by Keaton Wheeler who scored 21 not out and was a stabilising influence at an important time.

Congratulations to Fred Clutterbuck (Captain) and Binuk Kodituwakku (Vice Captain) who gave great service as leaders of the team. Daniel Kirk scored 260 runs as an opening batsman with a highest score of 96; a great achievement. Hugo Seymour in taking 4 for 17 and Andrew Winton with 4 for 25 both displayed their bowling potential. Mitch Duncan scored a great double for the season in scoring 234 runs and taking 15 wickets. Few who saw his 93 against Scotch and his 92 against Wesley will forget those innings.

A number of significant performances during the season were due to another player who unselfishly was willing to play the support role without much personal reward, but making a significant contribution to the team’s performance. Jacob Holmes made 14 in a 108 run partnership with Travis Colyer (124) against Scotch College. Whilst Mitch Duncan destroyed the Wesley attack James Di Carlo gave him great support, scoring only 5 not out himself but adding 75 invaluable runs in the last wicket partnership. Given the closeness of the competition, which we won by a margin of 3 points, efforts like these are invaluable.

Mr Rod Rainer

1st XI Cricket Coach The winner of the batting award for the 1st XI was Travis Colyer with 346 runs at 49.43 and Tim Shales won the bowling award with 17 wickets for 14. 41each.

The 9A/10A team had a very successful summer season, culminating in excellent team and individual performances. The team won eight games and drew one in a rain affected match. Term One started very brightly with a tough fixture against the previously unbeaten Hale School. Having won the toss and elected to bat, the boys batted superbly to record a solid total of 7/225 from our 55 overs. Opening the batting for the first time, Brett Wolton led the way with a superb 47. In reply Hale could only manage 119, with Josh Nicholas taking four wickets. The win gave the side a lot of confidence as the team went on to record comfortable victories against all other teams except Aquinas in a match which had to be abandoned due to bad weather. Highlights for the season included personal bests by Simon Douglas (109), Clayton Arnez (84), Jacob Holmes (83), Aden Fawcett (72) and Josh Nicholas (71). With the ball Josh Nicholas led the way with an incredible 27 wickets at an average of just 6.5 from 9 innings. He was well supported by Peter Bormolini, David Pearson, Aden Fawcett and James Di Carlo. These boys, along with a number of others, will seriously challenge for 1st team selection in the coming season.

The coaches of all teams are to be congratulated for their contribution to Trinity cricket this season. I would like to thank the parents who have supported the boys in their pursuit of actively participating in this great character-building game. The Cricket Committee have been tremendously active this season, with the Nudgee tour and catering and in particular I acknowledge the efforts of the President Mr Chris Colyer and Mrs Karen Clutterbuck.

I would like to acknowledge the recent hard work and support of Mr Martin Tobin, Mr Steve Leahy, Mr Graeme Porter, Mr David Hankin and the late Mr Murray McKenna who have all made significant contributions to the recent success of Trinity cricket. The groundstaff, headed by Mr Ross Beatson, are to be congratulated for their endeavours in providing us with the best playing conditions possible in the circumstances presented to us.

It would appear that with most of the current 1st team being Year 11s and with a strong group of Year 10 cricketers we can look forward to another exciting season in 2008. Once again my appreciation to all those involved in the cricket program for your efforts and we can all share in the success of the season just completed.
