Information and Communication Technology
2007 has been a year of consolidation for the Information Technology Department along with continuing our program of upgrading classrooms with improved access to technology.
To address teacher requests for more classroom audio visual equipment we have installed data projectors, screens and speakers into eight more classrooms this year (including two more interactive electronic whiteboards in the Junior School). This brings the number of rooms that have AV equipment to twentyeight. With the proceeds of the Trinity Springtime Fair going towards new AV equipment, teachers and students will have excellent access to AV facilities throughout much of the College in 2009.
Other areas receiving IT improvements include:
• eighteen new student laptops for the Science
Learning Area; • the refurbishment of the IT computing laboratory; • a new four computer mini-laboratory in the Physical
Education area for video editing; • a new eight computer mini-laboratory for the Senior
Enterprise Program; and • a digitising station in the Senior Library to convert analogue data to digital data.
Mr William Quartermaine
Director of Information and Communication Technology management system. The assessment and reporting software continues to evolve as fast as the curriculum changes and our community database has great potential for organising and streamlining Old Boy contact data.
To reflect the students’ growing interest in digital media we have purchased new video editing and graphics software suites. Boys have been creating high quality videos using this software including a terrific effort by a group of boys who produced the Year 12 Graduation video.
Staff
We welcomed Mr Lance Cooper to the IT team this year. Lance is the new Help Desk Technician whose role it is to help staff and students when they have a technical problem. Lance brings the right attributes to this position and he has been well received by staff and students alike. Lance works with our Network Manager Mr Neil Seaman who continues to provide the technical expertise that keeps the College network running efficiently.
Mr Roger Blatchford has introduced the new Applied Information Technology course of study to Trinity. As usual Roger has done this in a highly professional and dedicated manner. Roger is also doing an outstanding job in developing and maintaining the College website. He puts countless hours into keeping this website current, informative and highly professional.
Mr Richard Cackett has been a teaching member of the IT Department for twelve years. Richard leaves us at the end of this year to take up a position at a new school. Richard’s teaching practice and classroom management have been outstanding and the boys will miss his technical expertise and considerate nature. In addition to his teaching duties, Richard has been heavily involved in the technical and services side of the IT Department. He started the College website and continued its development for many years. He has also developed software to be used in Christian Service, and various sports and retreats. Richard was especially prominent when the College built its first school-wide network. His technical expertise, hard work, dedication and knowledge were invaluable then and have continued to be valued and respected over the years. Richard has left his mark on the College and I wish him all the best for the future.
Software Development
Our database development continues by focusing on our assessment and reporting system and a combined Trinity College/Trinity Old Boys community database
