The 2006/2007 basketball season proved to be the most successful period in Trinity’s basketball history. A number of teams across the year levels remained undefeated for the season and improvements in the skill level in a number of other teams was achieved.

The senior season tipped off with the State All Schools–High School Classic competition held over a period of five weeks. Trinity College managed to secure its first non-PSA trophy for basketball after a thrilling final against Shenton College.

The same group of boys were involved in a tour to the USA to experience basketball at the highest level. Winning nine out of twelve games and competing against future college basketballers, the students who returned to Trinity the following year as senior players were now seasoned veterans and prepared for the ultimate glory – the Blackwood Cup.

After a very successful Term 4 competition winning the Shortland Jones Competition (determined by combined results from First through to 3rd V teams), a determined Trinity 1st V left nothing to chance in their preparation for and effort expended during each game. With a simple team ethos – the most important person on the team is your team mate – and our focus on being TC warriors, led by Captain Jacob Reed and Vice Captain Myles Pover, a true team of champions was forged.

The season was ultimately decided in the game against Christ Church. In total four State players and one International player participated in the match arguably rated as the most exciting game in recent PSA Basketball history. The skill level and intensity was second to none. With our tall players in foul trouble it was put to our guards and small forwards to lift and out-hustle, out-rebound and out-run a bigger opposition. Our team followed the belief that to be a TC warrior each player needed to play with Strength, Courage and Honour and be prepared to Sacrifice for the team. Every player contributed to the victory, from the starting five to the bench. The victory at Christ Church ensured at least one hand on the trophy.

The team secured outright victory by defeating Wesley College on the last day of competition. The highlight of the game was a slam-dunk by Captain and State representative Jacob Reed in the final stages of the game. The season belonged to Trinity College.

I would like to thank the boys for the amount of effort and faith they placed into training and one another. Self-sacrifice was a key component of success and each player who wore the white and blue did so with honour and pride. Thank you to the parents of the 1st V players who supported the team with passion and ensured a positive environment for the players in each and every game.

I would also like to congratulate the Year 8A team under the guidance of Mr Brett Silver on an undefeated season, ensuring a bright future for Trinity in years to come.
