Art Coordinator The importance of the visual arts at this school is not only to stimulate our visual senses, but expand our intellectual capacity. Through the arts we learn to visually perceive the world more fully and appreciate the underlying perception of all people around us. We are recreating nature and life, and developing meaning from what we may have overlooked. It is an expression, a stimulant and a place in our own company that we can find peace with what we hold dear. The arts are a vital part of development, intellectually and spiritually as we recreate the world around us.

Jeremy Eaton (Year 12 Art)

Through the process of art-making students explore new ideas and new worlds that provide us with insight into their minds and enable us to view life from another perspective. These thoughtprovoking student works have been showcased in a range of art exhibitions during 2007, including the very successful combined art and music nights, Senior Arts Night and Contemporary Music Night, providing pleasant viewing and entertainment for the Trinity community.

Trinity students also had their work displayed in highly prestigious local art exhibitions including the Angelico Art Exhibition for Catholic School Students, held at the Forrest Centre in St Georges Terrace. Congratulations go to James McKenna (Year 12.7) for winning the Fra Angelico Award for his painting ‘Angels have wings hidden by the sun’. Other students with artworks selected for inclusion in this exhibition were Liam Dee (Year 12.2), Patrick Giles (Year 12.4), Jeremy Eaton (Year 12.2) and Jack McAuliffe (Year 12.2), all of whom are to be commended on their achievements.

The standard of student artwork was very high this year. Our Student Art Exhibition held at the Perth Concert Hall, provided some insight into their creativity, in particular the Year 12 cohort. The annual Year 12 Signum Fidei Art Award, a prestigious prize sponsored by Old Boy Patrick Coward (Class of ‘81) with the aim to encourage our art students in their artistic endeavours, was a highlight of the evening. This year the award was judged by Iona Presentation College Head of Art Mrs Sarah McCarthy, and Trinity College Acting Coordinator of Art Mrs Lorraine Francis. Congratulations to Jeremy Eaton, the recipient of the Signum Fidei Award for his painting ‘Allusions of the mind’, and to runner-up Mark Kaminski. Congratulations also to Alex Antoniazzi for winning the Year 11 prize and Liam Dee (Year 12.2) who won the People’s Choice Art Award for the second consecutive year. Tim Mettam (Year 10) is congratulated for winning this year’s Adelphe King Prize for Drawing, sponsored by former Trinity art teacher and supporter of the visual arts, Mrs Adelphe King.

Thank you to our sponsors who continue to provide support for our art students. Congratulations to every art student this year for their enthusiasm and achievements in art. May these talented students continue to provide us with interesting and thought provoking perspectives to stimulate and invigorate our senses.
