After a period of five years the Lawe Davies Cup is back at Trinity College. The 1st XI proved to be the benchmark of the PSA competition and completed the season undefeated. The PSA season got underway in March with over 40 boys trying out Mr Lal Bisnath Manager 1st XI for the 15 positions in the 1st XI squad. Competition for places meant there were a few unhappy lads when the squad was announced at the end of Term 1. The season began with a game against Christ Church which Trinity won 4 – 0. Thereafter we had wins over Wesley, Hale, Guildford and Aquinas before the crunch game against Scotch College who were also undefeated. In stormy conditions and gale force winds Trinity were able to defeat Scotch 2 - 0 making us favourites for the Cup. We completed the season with nine wins and a draw against Aquinas in the last game. Our success did not end with the PSA competition. The 1st XI reached the quarter finals of the All Schools Knockout Cup where we narrowly went down by 2 goals to 1 to John Curtin High School who also won last year. My thanks should go to Jamie Harnwell Coach of the 1st XI for his tremendous work with the team. Special mention should also be made of Alex Cocking who scored 28 goals in the PSA Competition, Josh Marocchi as Captain, Aaron Mayo, James Davies and Chris Quinn who provided the skill and class that contributed to such a successful year for the 1st XI team.
The other senior teams had their fair share of success, the 2nd XI were always competitive in the games. Mick Chortis and Daniel Randazzo were elevated to 1st XI to cover injured players and were a great asset to the team. The 3rd XI represented the College with admirable enthusiasm and most games were hard fought affairs. The Year 9 teams had a very successful season with the 9A Team winning their competition with eight wins, a draw and one loss. A high level of skill and enthusiasm were displayed by the team as a whole. The 9B Team were also fairly successful during the season and need to be commended for their sportsmanship.
The 8A Team coached by Jamie Harrwell, played some great soccer but were often unrewarded for their efforts. Goal scoring will have to become a priority with this team to turn good seasons into great seasons. The 8B and 8C teams tried hard and had fairly successful seasons.
I would like to thank all soccer coaches for their tremendous efforts, also the parents for support of their sons and coaches during the season. Thanks also to the many members of staff for their support of the 1st XI during the season.
