Landmark Year With Trinity winning an award in the Career Education Lighthouse Schools Project and receiving a Commonwealth Government grant to help design sustainable career education structures, 2007 has been a defining year for career development. Mr Kevin Johns Career Development Coordinator
The year also brought the introduction of student members to the Career Development Council and important career curriculum content was integrated into Year 10 SOSE and English – thanks to Mr Chris Allanson and Mr Anthony Byrne, respective heads of department – with accompanying professional development for relevant teachers and a general introduction to the Australian Blueprint for all staff. Capping off a significant year was the production of a career development handbook both in hard copy and on the Trinity website.

Congratulations to Jerome Davenport (Year 12) for being our first school-based apprentice (chef). In 2008 two more students will follow Jerome. Our first graduates from the ‘Dream Team’ were presented with their certificates at the Perth Convention Centre in late October. Congratulations to Mark Ciancotti, Adam Morris and David Graham. In 2008 five members of the team will move into Year 12 and another five will commence in Year 11.
Students It is pleasing to report that most students in Years 10 to 12 are keeping their career portfolios up to the mark. The career coordinator interviewed all Year 11 students and they are well placed to continue their research to be ready with their exit plans during 2008.
Workplace Learning Formerly known as INSTEP, the workplace learning program continues to be the main avenue for senior students to receive quality training in the workplace. Twenty-four students completed the program towards their Certificates of Education, many with A grades and offers of part-time work and some gaining apprenticeships. Congratulations to Simon Miller (Year 12) and Simon Kerr (Year 11) for taking out the respective awards this year.
Congratulations to council members Michael Brown and Judith Marinoni (parent representatives), Martin Tobin, Doug Simpson and Tony Webb who have continued to meet throughout the year. The council negotiated limited funding through our local community partnership to conduct a major event for Year Award winner 10s in Term 1, 2008. It is intended that this will Simon Kerr take the form of a ‘career carousel’ with major Next Year industries/professions represented by speakers and displays, and parents will be welcome. Through the In Term 1 2008, the major focus will be on Year 10 with active student members Daniel Kirk, Binuk Kodituwakku, personal interviews, research skills and a ‘career Mark McKenna, Daniel Randazzo and Greg Stockton, carousel’ involving many industries and professions. the council conducted surveys in Year 12 to evaluate Opportunities for parents of Year 9 students to become some of the career services provided. Vocational Education and Training
Certificates formerly embedded into particular subjects have been set up as ‘stand alone’ certificates. This allowed teachers and students to focus more closely on the national competencies, thereby receiving better
