I
n 2007 we continued to make physical changes, making the Library more user friendly and creating an open environment where students can come and work, read or play chess. We purchased round desks for the boys to use in the Ms Luciana Cavallaro computer area making Teacher Librarian the Library much more functional and allowing students to sit and work. I have continued the Reading Program with the English Department and in turn the number of classes participating in the program has increased. Students are reading more frequently and many are coming to request books they would like the Library to purchase. I have created a Library Intranet designed for the educational needs of the College and students which can be accessed at home via the College internet: click on the College intranet site, go to ‘College Links’ and scroll down to ‘Library’. The aim is for students, parents and staff to have access to information pertinent to assignments. At the end of Semester One we said goodbye—a very sad one—to Mrs Catherine Hamilton who has relocated to Queensland to be closer to her son and enjoy a new chapter in her life. Mrs Nicole Davey is our new Library Assistant and has smoothly entered the Trinity College life and is a wonderful addition to the Senior Library. She has instigated a new trend by introducing literacy competitions in which students have eagerly participated. On 18th September 2007 we were very fortunate to have renowned authors Kevin J Anderson and his wife
Rebecca Moesta come and spend some time talking about their latest writing projects. Kevin and his wife were on tour in Australia promoting his latest series The Saga of the Seven Suns. Kevin has written many books including the Star Wars series, The X-Files, and Dune. He has also spent a great deal of time writing graphic novels. His latest release is called The Last Days of Krypton, a story based on the planet where Superman was born. Rebecca has written a fantasy series called the Crystal Door Trilogy due out in 2008 and has written books in the Buffy series, Young Jedi Knights Series, Titan A.E. and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I would like to take this opportunity to say goodbye and thank you to all who have made me feel very welcome in the last eighteen months. A special thank you to Mrs Jenni Properjohn, Mrs Catherine Hamilton and Mrs Nicole Davey, who have welcomed and supported me during this time at Trinity College. Without them I would not have been able to accomplish all that I had planned. To Mr Douglas Simpson and Mr Kevin Johns, thank you, the library has been a better place with you in it.
