https://www.truck-manuals.net/mack/ 230 MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION TOWING Tow pins, hooks, eyes, etc., are located in or behind the front bumper. These devices meet the recommendations for towing set forth by the Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) of the American Trucking Association and can be used for towing a disabled vehicle from the immediate location. If it is necessary to remove the tow pin, remove the retainer clip first. Once the retainer clip is pulled, the tow pin can be lifted out of the bumper hole.
CAUTION Do NOT lift and tow any vehicle by tow pins, hooks, eyes, etc. If the vehicle is mired in heavy mud, snow, etc., use a suitable sling-type towing arrangement. Note: Tow pins, hooks, eyes, etc., are NOT intended for use as long-term towing devices.
CAUTION Failure to disconnect the driveshaft, remove the drive axle shaft(s) or lift the drive wheels off the ground before towing or pushing the vehicle, can cause serious transmission damage.
DANGER If the drive shaft has been removed for towing, DO NOT reuse bearing retainer bolts or stamped strap bolts, or stamped straps. Reuse of bearing retainer bolts or stamped strap bolts, or stamped straps can cause driveline failure, which can result in separation of the driveline from the vehicle. A separated driveline can result in property damage, serious personal injury or death.
