DIESEL P ARTICULA FIL TERS
Y our new MACK chassis equipped with a 2010 emission compliant engine and exhaust aftertreatment system which includes a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), which reduces soot and particulate emissions into the atmosphere. V ehicles equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter require the use - O Premium Plus (or VDS - specification high performance diesel engine oil and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel.
Caution
Use diesel fuel other than ULSD and engine oils other than - O emium Plus (or VDS - will adversely affect efficiency and durability the DPF system and the the point wher e the engine may not run Manufactur ’ s warranties will also r ender void due usage impr oper Unappr oved fuel additives (including engine oil) e NOT
Mack T fers two dif ferent types DPF systems:
• Conventional DPF (passive regeneration and parked regeneration)
Thermal Regeneration Unit (TRU) DPF (moving regeneration and parked regeneration) well two dif ferent mounting styles:
MACK V ertical Back - - Cab DPF both conventional DPF conventional DPF TRU
Mack - Cap DPF , which a space saying unit that mounted inside the frame (conventional only)

A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) takes the place the standard muf fler The DPF used meet A requirements help reduce soot and particulate emissions into the The particulates are removed collecting the DPF where they are eventually oxidized with passive regeneration active regeneration the filter The electrical system and exhaust aftertreatment system the vehicle will determine when regeneration Mack T uses two exhaust aftertreatment system: conventional and TRU
Conventional exhaust aftertreatment systems use passive - active regeneration. The passive regeneration process oxidizes the particulates captured the DPF while the vehicle operation. oxidation catalyst raises the exhaust temperature approximately 260°C (500°F), the temperature which a chemical reaction takes place oxidize the soot (passive regeneration).
Conventional exhaust aftertreatment systems are used highway and certain vocational TRU exhaust aftertreatment systems are used mainly refuse collection
Depending how the vehicle set up, regeneration can occur while the vehicle being driven (referred a regeneration) when the vehicle parked and idling (referred a regeneration).
