Reception classes had fun learning new vocabulary through stories, games, art work and rhymes. They loved re-enacting the dialogues of ‘La Surprise d’Handa’ and ‘Mandarine la Petite Souris’. We also kept active whilst practising numbers with the ‘number gym’ and the ‘colour walk’.

Year Three loved using Duolingo and the AP sock puppet to practise their vocabulary. They drilled their vocabulary on family with Piccolage. Their favourite activities were to role play with vegetables and to turn into little chefs, giving instructions on how to prepare a galette or a sandwich!

Year One rejoiced singing songs and poems about colours and body parts, especially ‘Jean Petit qui danse’, the French alphabet and ‘Petit Lapin plein de poils’. They had fun solving and making up riddles. They loved describing themselves and their family members using their own fingers as finger puppets. They loved making cards to celebrate special dates such as ‘la fête du Muguet’.

Year Four recorded and shared on SeeSaw videos of themselves performing group singing, baking or role playing. They used Piccolage to present a French speaking Caribbean island. They were creative at making up comics and holiday settings to practise asking and answering questions. After watching a short animation film called ‘le vélo de l’éléphant’, they discussed in French the meaning of the story and read captions, carefully ignoring silent letters.

Year Two enjoyed describing their hair do and using silly props to describe descriptive vocabulary. They turned into photo reporters, documenting the weather in London. They memorised the vocabulary best by playing games on the Rigolo software or practising hard on Duolingo. They loved turning potatoes into characters and playing with them.

Year Five classes enjoyed designing their book front cover. After going to the cinema, they used Piccolage to describe some characters of ‘Rémi sans famille’. For their form assembly about space, 5M wrote and performed funny role plays, a space rap, a song and a quiz on Kahoot. The two classes loved designing posters on planets and playing “qui suis-je?”. Year Six used poplet to present information about sports and to understand how French determinants work. They learned about Jeanne d’Arc and designed a poster for the ‘Take One Picture’ project. They practised emotions while taking selfies. After learning a poem about race and colours ‘homme de couleurs’, they worked on idiomatic expressions with colours. Madame Metro Head of French
