Our

mission Community and a rounded education is central to all that we do at Glendower. Glendower’s vision is to be truly part of it’s local community for the mutual benefit of all involved; and to make a sustainable and positive difference to the lives of thousands of children, young people and adults both within the Glendower community and in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea area, regardless of people’s social-economic background. The student body at Glendower is diverse and comes from a wide range of backgrounds.

However, in the local area, not everyone has equal access to such opportunity and academic advancement.

Our aim is to make an increased contribution to close this gap and ensure that every student at Glendower leaves with the skills, knowledge and attitude to make a positive contribution to the world.

From the

headmistress The ethos of reaching out, of forging connections beyond the school gates, has been woven into the fabric of our curriculum and the girls have not only learned within the classroom, but they have ventured into the community, developing their skills of empathy and social responsibility.

In the midst of our second year, a year that has been marked by a concerted effort to extend our influence well beyond the gates of Glendower, I am thrilled to share with you the profound impact we have had on the world around us through this Annual Impact Report. At Glendower, it is our unwavering commitment to ensure that our young girls are not only academically enriched but also deeply attuned to the challenges faced by those in the broader global community. In fact, this mission forms one of the School’s core aims, thereby equipping our girls with the skills and compassion necessary for life beyond the walls of Glendower.

As we reflect on the achievements of this year, please take a moment to read the impressive tapestry of experiences within our wonderful Glendower community. It is with deep gratitude that I extend my thanks to every one of you who has contributed to the transformation of this vision into a reality.

Throughout this year, we have witnessed remarkable partnership community engagement initiatives that have fostered positive change.

From fundraising campaigns to environmental projects, the impact of our extended Glendower family knows no bounds.

We have further developed collaborations with local schools, broadening the horizons of pupils in both schools. Such experiences have proven invaluable in nurturing leadership skills and empowering our girls to become change-makers in their own right.

It is through collective effort and shared values that we continue to prepare our girls for a life beyond Glendower, where they carry with them not only a world-class education but also the seeds of compassion, responsibility, and the power to shape a better world.

Together, we have turned this dream into a remarkable reality, and I look forward to the limitless potential still to be unlocked in the years to come.

On behalf of the Governors, I would like to thank you for your continued and generous investment in our pupils, school and partnerships.

Fundraising for Glendower School’s bursary fund and the school community’s chosen charities has always been one of the main objectives of the Glendower Parent Teachers Association (GPTA).

The GPTA is also proud to have been able to successfully react to current events

It is my pleasure to report that philanthropic support for Glendower and our development plans has been incredible during the 20222023 academic year, with your gifts totalling £190,000, ensuring that our pupils, staff and community have received unparalleled support, opportunities and experiences.

As a result of your generosity, we have been able to install our new immersive space - the Hawke-i Room; raise funds for our new playground - a project close to all our hearts; develop relationships with Park Walk Primary School, St Teresa’s Care Home and Queensmill School for autistic children; as well as support our three chosen school charities -

Brompton Fountain, Honeypot and Kensington & Chelsea Foundation. The experiences our pupils, staff and parents have had as a result have been truly inspiring.

Together we have raised more than £50,000 for external charities through pupil led fundraisers and GPTA events. This has enabled us to support our three chosen charities with donations in excess of £12,000 each, whilst also raising funds for numerous emergency appeals, most notably raising over £14,000 for the DEC appeal for those effected by the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey.

This year we launched our new programme and fund in support of bursaries. We now have three

bursary pupils on roll and more in the admissions process, as we work together to grow the number of means-tested bursaries available for pupils who truly deserve a place at our school, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.

As such, this year after expenditure, we have raised around £30,000 through our annual Christmas Bazaar, our regular bake sales and our second-hand book sale. The funds have been distributed to Glendower’s 1) Bursary fund and 2) three chosen charities (Honeypot, K&C Foundation and Brompton Fountain), 3) the Turkey and Syria Earthquake appeal and 4) women’s journeys in competitive sports internationally.

We are incredibly grateful to the school community for their continued support and generosity.

On the back of our increased collaboration with Glendower’s leadership and staff, and the school community, we are looking forward to continuing to raise significant funds for these great causes!

Hawke-i: Our Immersive Learning Facility

Playground Paradise: Together we smashed it!

Thanks to the incredible donations made by our parent community we closed our Immersive Learning appeal in Autumn 2022 having raised an impressive £90,000.

This enabled us to install the technology and finalise the room ready for the launch of this facility after the autumn half term break. Our supporters joined us for a drinks reception and a demonstration of this facility in late October 2022 when we officially launched the immersive learning room ready for use by the school.

Together you raised over £118,000 in just over 3 weeks in the Spring 2023 term for our much-needed new school playground. The renovation of the playground is a project that will impact every girl throughout her time at Glendower and has been on the school’s agenda for several years, discussed by the girls as part of their School Council and identified by our parents as a top priority needing development. It is therefore incredibly exciting for us to be able to deliver on this, thanks to you, our parents.

Hardship and

bursaries This year we have supported two 110% bursary pupils and their families as they settle into life at Glendower.

We also welcomed a further bursary recipient in September 2023 and look forward to increasing the number of bursary recipients on roll each academic year, as we steadily grow the number of pupils awarded bursaries in line with our vision.

At our school, we envision a future where all deserving girls have access to an exceptional education, regardless of their financial background. To achieve this, we are committed to providing means-tested bursaries that provide fully funded bursary places for the most vulnerable girls in our community and encourage enrolment of pupils from middle-income families.

Our school aims to gradually increase the number of bursary pupils on a sliding scale from 25% to 110%, providing additional support for those who may need it.

Our goal is to offer 14 full-fee equivalent bursary places, enhancing accessibility and diversity of experience for the whole school community.

We believe that bursary recipients should not only receive financial support but also be fully integrated into our school community.

To achieve this, we will take several steps to ensure that all students feel valued and included.

We aim to create an inclusive environment where all students feel supported, regardless of their financial background. By integrating bursary recipients fully into the school community, we can help to break down barriers and promote social mobility while providing an enriching educational experience for all students.

To ensure that our bursary recipients receive the support they need to succeed academically and make a smooth transition to secondary education, we will establish links and relationships with secondary schools and their bursary leads.

We acknowledge that a diversified fundraising strategy, which includes multiple streams of revenue, is crucial for the long-term success of any bursary programme.

Therefore, we are committed to building relationships with potential donors and supporters, effectively communicating the impact of bursaries and maintaining transparency in the fundraising process.

Park Walk Pupils join us for The Storyteller

GlenPark Prep-Primary Debating Shield

During Book Week, Our Park Walk Primary School friends in Year 2 joined Glendower Year 2 to hear The Storyteller’s version of Jack and the Beanstalk. The Park Walk children were so excited to visit Glendower, asking if it was our Headmistress’ house as they entered the Whitehouse.

The Storyteller had everyone in the room giggling to his funny sounds, actions and jokes as he retold the classic story with a modern and playful twist.

On Thursday 15th June a selection of Year Five girls took part in the GlenPark Prep and Primary Shield Debating Competition at Park Walk Primary School. This is the first time that Glendower and Park Walk have co-hosted this competition bringing local Prep and Primary school pupils together to develop and showcase their debating skills. The competition was a great success, and we hope to work together to make this an annual partnership activity that we can continue to develop with our partner school Park Walk Primary.

GlenPark STEM Collaboration

The girls included in the debate were Aishwarya, Darya, Siena, Thandi and Chloe. They took part in five different debates alongside three primary schools Deer Park, Harry Gosling and Park Walk and one independent school, Sarum Hall. Debate topics included banning tobacco, introducing one hour of sport in the school day, stopping under 16s using social media, banning zoos and preventing teachers from striking. Although Sarum Hall won overall, the girls put in an impressive performance, particularly as they were given the motions on the day and were often pitched against Year Six pupils.

During Science Week, Year 6 had the opportunity to build hover crafts in collaboration with Park Walk Primary and raced their inventions.

They applied their knowledge of friction, air resistance and properties of materials and most of all, a resilient attitude to build their hovercraft’s.

“I learnt to include people who aren’t contributing as much, as they had great ideas to share and offer.”

It was fantastic to see them refining their debating skills – they were confident, articulate and able to think on their feet, especially when rebutting their opponents’ points. The event proved to be a great experience for the girls and they should be incredibly proud of themselves.

opportunity & impact GlenPark Business Partnership Project During the Summer term, our Year 6 girls excitedly teamed up with their counterparts at Park Walk Primary to form mixed business groups coming together over two afternoons to develop their business ideas, marketing strategies and products in preparation for the sale of their groups produce at the Park Walk Summer fair.

Each member of the group was given £5 to contribute towards their groups business plan and generate a marketable product with the aim of growing their initial investment. Each group then competed at the Park Walk Summer Fair to sell their products and see which group made the most profit. Together the groups raised over £1000.

King’s

coronation Park Walk Primary School & Glendower Prep celebrated together in royal style. On Thursday 4th May 2023 our whole school celebrated the King’s Coronation with a fun packed day of activities hosted jointly with Park Walk Primary School, our partner school in Chelsea.

The Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes travelled from Park Walk Primary to join our girls at Glendower, while Glendower Years 3-6 travelled to Park Walk to join their counterparts there.

At the Glendower party the students enjoyed making crowns and royal crafts ready for their royal photos on the Throne elaborately set up in the Immersive Room. Additionally, all pupils learnt about the King and what the Coronation means; enjoyed creating regal dances with our fabulous dance teacher Miss Dodd; sang popular songs through the decades with the wonderful Mrs Park; and were captivated by an interactive drama workshop provided by the energetic Cat and Hutch. The highlight of the day was a good old-fashioned picnic on the lawns of Stanhope Gardens, where the children enjoyed getting to know each other, making new friends across both schools, and running around together.

While the fun festivities could be heard throughout the corridors of Glendower, our Years 3-6 pupils were having a fantastic day at Park Walk Primary with their Years 3-6 pupils. The highlight for all was the junk modelling activity, where pupils in mixed groups from both schools thoroughly enjoyed making HUGE castles out of an immense quantity of recycled materials. The final creations were incredibly creative and impressive, although the mess left to clear up afterwards was perhaps less so. Additionally,

all the students at the Park Walk party had the unique opportunity to create a personalised royal postage stamp using their own silhouette image; enjoyed a lively and interactive dance workshop and sang their hearts out to traditional songs with our very own Mr Dean.

Park Walk Primary looked fantastic with bunting hanging across their playground ready for the great picnic lunch hosted together underneath the flags. As always, our girls enjoyed the opportunity to play on the fantastic play equipment in Park Walk’s playground.

The outfits, energy and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved across two schools was heart-warming.

It truly was a day to remember and one that we hope our girls will recount for years to come. After all, even the sun was shining!

Glendower Pupil hours engaged in community activities

St Teresa’s Care Home Prep School Community Club at St Teresa’s Care Home Throughout the year more than 25 girls from Years 3-5 have voluntarily signed up to community club to visit the elderly residents weekly at St Teresa’s Care Home. The residents, who suffer from varying stages of Alzheimer’s or Dementia, have loved meeting and interacting with our girls and our pupils have been nothing short of superstars, playing board games, creating artwork , being put on the spot to sing, play musical instruments, and recite poetry, as well as navigate challenging conversations and situations. We couldn’t be prouder of them and their enthusiasm to develop their relationships with the residents and staff at St Teresa’s.

Reception Weekly Visits to St Teresa’s Care Home Throughout the summer term 9 girls from Reception have visited St Teresa’s care home each week on rotation across the year group. The girls have enjoyed spending time getting to know the residents, colouring in beautiful pictures, reading books together and singing songs. The residents, time and again, showed how overwhelmed with joy they were when our girls gifted their drawings to them each week and they told the girls repeatedly that they would treasure them forever. Each afternoon’s visit has finished with story time and the girls and residents have sat back and listened intently as Mrs Bist has read to them all. These Friday afternoons have truly been magical for all involved.

Lucy explained how autistic people may have differences in the way they communicate, the way they move and the way they like to play. She brought in some examples such as visual timetables and social stories and showed pictures of fidget toys, chewies, cushions and ear defenders. She ended with talking about the special interests autistic people may have. Our colleague Mx Curran was there and told us about their special interest in the London Underground.”

Neurodiversity & Autism Awareness Week

Yr 6 Volunteering Day at Vauxhall City Farm

To mark Autism Awareness Week, Lucy Capon, Deputy Head at Queensmill Kensington School for autistic children, visited Glendower on two separate occasions to give an assembly to the Prep and then Pre Prep girls about the challenges and superpowers of autism.

On Monday 5th June, Year 6 girls had the opportunity to go and volunteer at Vauxhall City Farm. We were all excited to be able to be around the animals and be able to help. First, we were given a tour around the farm, and we were able to see where to go and what animals there were. Some of our favourite places were with the guinea pigs and where the goats were kept.

Additionally, we dressed up in all things colourful on Friday 24th March to show our solidarity with and acceptance of people with autism.

“We learnt that 1 in 10 people have a neurological difference (this could be ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia and more) and that autistic people may have differences in social communication they might look at us differently, talk differently or move differently by stimming. They may use repetitive actions such as flapping hands, rocking or spinning. They sometimes might like to play alone and sometimes they might have difficulties taking turns, sharing or choosing. Autistic people can also have hypersensitivity: this is a sensitivity when exposed to too much information at once such as bright colours, lights or sounds.

We were split into groups, and we were able to come up with team names! Each team was assigned three tasks with an adult. These included mucking out an animal’s pen, gardening, grooming the goats or getting the farm ready for the public who would come the next day.

We also were given the privilege of meeting the horses, rabbits, and other animals. We learnt about the different equipment that farmers used and put our knowledge into practice when we were completing our jobs.

On the 2nd April Glendower parents Maria and Hadleigh Beals completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon and raised an impressive £500 for the Brompton Fountain, one of the charities Glendower currently support.

From the picture taken at the end of the half marathon you both look like this was a mere walk in the park! Well done from us all.

In February we raised an impressive £14,000 in weeks through our emergency Glendower Turkey & Syria earthquakes Appeal on JustGiving. Our community collection was ranked the 5th largest supporter on the DEC JustGiving Appeal at the time and is now 10th, which is amazing!

We received a huge thank you from the Children’s Book Project for the incredible donation of books collected on Tuesday.

The response to our Spring appeal for your pre-loved children’s books was overwhelming.

The “treasure” you donated included arts and craft activities, little teddies, books, hair accessories, slime, jewellery, card games, small Lego items, stationery and more. All of which will be packaged to form memory bags for the Honeypot children attending respite camps this summer.

lives together From an early age, we teach that every one of us can make a difference to the lives of others. We provide opportunities for our pupils to understand and appreciate the challenging circumstances in which people find themselves. As a result, our pupils gain an understanding of the ethos of ‘giving back’, enhancing the lives of others through their own efforts. This academic year our pupils, supported by parents and staff, have raised in excess of £25,000 to support external charities, which is more than ever before.

Honeypot affiliated to Marlborough House Honeypot works to enhance the lives of young carers aged 5-12 years by providing them with fun respite breaks and on-going outreach support. They give young carers a break from demanding and stressful responsibilities at home and provide a safe, nurturing environment where children at risk can develop their full potential. Their countryside respite breaks and range of support services give young carers, with responsibilities beyond their years, the chance to be a child again.

Kensington & Chelsea Foundation affiliated to Gordon House Kensington & Chelsea Foundation identifies and supports projects which improve the lives and life chances of disadvantaged people in the local community. Their vision is of a borough where everyone has the opportunity to live happy, healthy, fulfilled lives. To achieve this, they research and raise awareness of key social issues affecting the community, identify and support impactful local projects that tackle these issues and improve the lives and life chances of local residents and raise direct funding to initiatives likely to have the greatest impact and make lasting change. Last year, the projects they supported reached 28,907 residents with support and services providing a lifeline to those in crisis.

Brompton Fountain affiliated to Wellington House The Brompton Fountain supports children’s cardiac, respiratory, and intensive care at the Royal Brompton Hospital. They look after children from foetal diagnosis, birth and onwards, seeing some 40,000 children a year, 12,000-14,000 of whom are outpatients. Many of the children live a long way from the hospital and are in care for lengthy periods of time. Brompton Fountain works closely with families of patients to provide for accommodation, travel and medical equipment required at home, as well as different aspects of support such as social peer to peer support, meetings bringing parents together to support each other, hospital parties, events, theatre trips, and residential activities for children on the ward and in long term outpatient treatment.

An Amazing Harvest Collection

Christmas Toy Collection for Disadvantaged Children Locally

Raised House Captains & Deputies Visit Brompton Fountain at Brompton Hospital In March our House Captains and Deputies visited The Brompton Fountain, at the Brompton Hospital, affiliate to Wellington House. During the visit the girls learnt about the incredible work the Brompton Fountain do to support children and their families who are admitted on the cardiac, respiratory or intensive care unit, as well as those who are supported as outpatients. As we toured the children’s wards the girls had the opportunity to see first-hand some of the incredible facilities the charity has provided, visit the hospital school and meet some of the incredible people who support these children and their families in so many ways.

In the Spring Term, the Year 4s took part in a Sponsored Swim raising over £2,845 for our three school charities.

“We are extremely impressed and proud of all the girls for swimming so many lengths for such worthy charities! A special mention goes to the top two girls in the year group for swimming the most laps within the given time of 30 minutes. Katherine M in 4C swam 54 lengths and Sarah L in 4L swam 52! A huge congratulations to all Year Fours for taking part and contributing to the year group charity fundraiser.”

This year our students, staff and parents gathered in St Augustine’s Church for our annual Harvest Festival to celebrate together and give thanks for all the good things in our lives. We listened to the students sing beautiful songs, some traditional and some new and enjoyed listening to Mrs Kingsmill Moore and Reverend Dave Matthews share with us their own personal examples of thanks.

Following this years’ service, we raised more than £1,400 for our school supported charities and donated an incredible amount of food and non-food produce to the Kensington and Chelsea Food Bank.

Toys & books donated

This year’s Christmas gift collection of toys for disadvantaged children in the borough was overwhelmingly successful. The response was fantastic and together we collected 516 wonderful toys and books.

The gifts were delivered safely to the Kensington & Chelsea Foundation to be distributed to children whose families were struggling even more than usual this year, due to the cost-of-living crisis.
