3D Shape

When exploring 2D and 3D shape, the girls used a variety of materials, such as straws, toothpicks, marshmallows, playdough and jellybeans, to create different 3D shapes. They were then able to describe the properties of each shape, for example the number of faces, vertices and edges. We even went on a 3D shape hunt around our homes, during one of our Zoom lessons, and discovered that maths really is all around us! Imagine

Refugee Week is an annual festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees. As part of Refugee Week, the girls were asked to imagine – and fight for – the world they want to see. The girls wrote poems or stories about what their school, community, city or planet would look like, if they made all the rules.

Tree House Project

During the last few weeks in lockdown, we looked at a storybook called ‘The 13-Storey Treehouse’ by Andy Griffiths. This book inspired the girls and they were very excited to take part in their own ‘Tree House Project’. Using mathematical concepts (such as shape, length, perimeter and area), the girls created miniature rooms for their very own tree house using a variety of different materials. As you can see, they came up with so many wonderful, creative and imaginative ideas!

Andy Goldsworthy

During lockdown, we were inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy and used natural materials to create our own temporary artwork. We explored and manipulated colour, pattern, texture, line, shape and space to create our own imaginative designs of insects. Can you guess what these insects are? In science we have been learning about ‘habitats’. Each of the girls created a wonderful ‘diorama’ to describe and show what each habitat is like. After learning about different habitats and the animals that are suited to live in each, the girls wrote a non-chronological report to inform others of what they had learnt. They also looked at food chains and came up with creative ways to show these.
