Year Four

This year the Year Four girls explored three faiths - Christianity, Sikhism and Judaism. The girls also explored the topic of inspiration and the qualities required to both lead and, importantly, to inspire people to make a difference to the lives of other people. They wrote some excellent ‘inspire’ acrostic poems. When looking at the inspiring life of Desmond Tutu, the pupils learned about peaceful protest, forgiveness and reconciliation. They then took part in a roleplay simulation of apartheid to experience the inequality of this system.
Year Five
Year Fives have focussed on Hindu and Muslim beliefs and actions during their RE lessons this year. They found out more about Islamic art and religious symbols used by Muslims. The girls also acted out the stories of some of Krishna’s avatars during our Hinduism topic. The girls thoroughly enjoyed designing stained-glass windows for our Take One Picture project. In the summer term, the girls explored issues around ‘Justice’. We discussed prejudice and discrimination in the past and present. The girls were moved when looking at the lives of people who paid a high price for fighting injustice including Martin Luther King Jr, Sophie Scholl and Peter Norman. Year Six
In Year Six, much of our religious education lessons are discussion based. Year 6 learnt about Buddhism and how it is often not seen as a religion but more a philosophy of ideas. They also explored the beliefs that they and their classmates have and life’s ultimate questions. In the Buddhism unit, the girls learnt the skills of origami, and during our online lessons while at home, they made paper crane birds. They connected the art of origami to Buddhist beliefs - as a form of meditation, and learning the art of patience, focus, mindfulness and perseverance. During remote learning, they also enjoyed finding out about a religious belief system of their choice and in a Zoom lesson shared their work and learnt from each other about various belief systems.
Many girls also enjoyed doing the takeaway homework tasks set for RE.
