Year Four have listened to well-known children’s stories, in Mandarin – such as ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. We used language and sentence structures from the book to learn from, and to create our own conversations about food and time.

Year Five have created dialogues to practise new vocabulary and sentence patterns. We used finger puppets and toys to recreate possible conversations, in Chinese.

Year Six have watched a cartoon version of ‘Journey to the West’ to learn more about the book and its place in Chinese culture. We used the story as a springboard to describe people’s feelings.

Mrs Hayes

Mandarin Teacher In the spring and summer terms, the girls in Year Six learned Spanish language. We started the lessons learning how to introduce ourselves. We then moved on to numbers and colours and the girls proved to be excellent at remembering songs!

We started learning verbs before Easter, and through Kahoot the girls showed their skills conjugating regular forms in the present tense.

They have also been learning members of the family, descriptive vocabulary and the difference between masculine and feminine words.
