We are always very lucky at Glendower to have visits from some of the UK’s favourite children’s authors and this year was no different. See below for some of the highlights that the students particularly enjoyed.

On the day when Jeremy visited, he showed a great sense of humour whilst reading one of his books named ‘Lost, the hundredmile-an-hour dog’.

He studied at York University and went on to become a primary school teacher. From there, he started to write stories for children. He has successfully published over 70 books even a few of his books were turned into a BBC TV series!

A fact that we found out was that he didn’t particularly didn’t enjoy his lessons at primary school and hated having to do country dancing. He even told us to tell our English teachers (Mrs Cadenhead and Miss Mogridge) to get a fridge in our English room, which still hasn’t been installed yet, so we can get a quick snack while we are writing stories. Overall everyone had a fantastic time and Jeremy showed his passion for writing children’s novels.

Colas Gutman

During book week, Year Six met Colas Gutman, a French actor and author, famous for his hilarious and endearing character ‘Chien pourri’ (Dumpster Dog).

During the workshop, the girls discussed what it meant to write a story, how to create a simple dialogue and how to build a storyline.

Inspired by the book covers, small groups of girls imagined a story using simple French sentences.
