In the autumn, the girls enjoyed participating in a range of theatresports games involving teamwork, building on the ideas of others and spontaneous improvisation under a time limit. One of our favourites was the ‘Elevator’ game where a group of strangers enter a lift which then breaks down between floors. The children must use their improvisational skills within this situation to help the audience guess which character they are playing.

In the spring, the girls rehearsed and performed an improvised scene set in a tavern in Cheapside following a performance by the Chamberlain’s Men at the Globe. The barmaids moved from table to table bringing various tableaux to life. We had spies from a rival theatre company attempting to steal Shakespeare’s latest script. Kit Marlowe’s hot temper had him in trouble and heart throb of the day, Richard Burbage, was pursued by adoring fans. Sadly, we were unable to perform our Year Six play due to the lockdown. However, the girls enjoyed many opportunities to perform during remote learning activities and within class upon our return to school. Their commedia dell’arte servant and master lazzi were highly entertaining!
