6L were also able to perform their World War 11 themed music assembly before lockdown began. Their assembly featured musical icons the now late Dame Vera Lynn and Glen Miller, as well as much of the girls’ own compositions and choreography.

The year got off to a good start with fantastic performances from all the girls at the Harvest Festival. In particular, Year Three and Four’s rendition of ‘Eat Your Greens’ greatly amused the audience and Reception performed their food themed song with such confidence at their very first Glendower concert. The Senior Choir were privileged to be invited to perform at the Glassdoor Homeless Charity Concert at St Mary the Bolton’s in December. As well as giving an excellent performance themselves, the girls were excited to hear other professional singers perform at the event. Inspiration for the future! The Carol Concert featured a polished performance of the ‘Coventry Carol’ from the orchestra and a confident debut from the Strings Group thanks to the amazing Mrs Park. The choirs showed their flexibility in tackling lively, contemporary repertoire and more reflective, traditional songs.

It has been a pleasure to see so many pupils from across the school participating in our termly Rush Hour Concerts. Following lockdown, we moved to hosting these remotely. In this format we were able to host a further three concerts throughout the summer term. Clearly many pupils have used lockdown time to develop their playing as the progress made by many girls has been exceptional! Special mention to Keira whose violin recording was chosen to be featured in the Celebration Concert Finale of Nicola Benedetti’s virtual orchestra workshop. Also, huge congratulations to Celestine for gaining a space at the Junior Royal Academy music department and a position with the National Children’s Orchestra in the under 10s category.

In the Spring Term, Year Four entertained their audience with a music assembly on the music of the Far East. Amongst other musical treats, they managed to learn a song in Japanese and perform a traditional Chinese fan dance!

Well done to all the girls for the commitment they have shown to the school’s musical groups this year and the progress they have made in their playing and singing! Mrs Marley Head of Music
