Imagine Refugee Week is an annual festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees. As part of Refugee Week, the girls were asked to imagine – and fight for – the world they want to see. The girls wrote poems or stories about what their school, community, city or planet would look like, if they made all the rules.

When exploring 2D and 3D shape, the girls used a variety of materials, such as straws, toothpicks, marshmallows, playdough and jellybeans, to create different 3D shapes. They were then able to describe the properties of each shape, for example the number of faces, vertices and edges. We even went on a 3D shape hunt around our homes, during one of our Zoom lessons, and discovered that maths really is all around us!

Tree House Project During the last few weeks in lockdown, we looked at a storybook called ‘The 13-Storey Treehouse’ by Andy Griffiths. This book inspired the girls and they were very excited to take part in their own ‘Tree House Project’. Using mathematical concepts (such as shape, length, perimeter and area), the girls created miniature rooms for their very own tree house using a variety of different materials. As you can see, they came up with so many wonderful, creative and imaginative ideas!
