Assemblies This year, our assembly programme has been wide and varied with a heavy focus on citizenship, adventure and interests. We started off strong with a speaker from a local charity, My Start, who addressed the girls on the topic of refugees in Kenya. Both Upper School and Lower School were invited to enter an art competition on the topic, and we were delighted to have several winners across the year groups!

We welcomed speakers and were encouraged to donate to help support local charities from Notting Hill Foodbank and the Venture Centre. Girls offered support in the form of harvest donations and Christmas shoeboxes. We have had many staff and parent volunteers who spoke on a variety of topics including turtle and whale conservation; protecting the Amazon; women in medieval art history; technology, engineering and design; holidays and hospitality; giant clam shells and even how Heinz beans are produced! We were very impressed with the varied line-up!

2G - We Have Character! When we grow up, who will we be? What’s inside us is more than you see. We all react in different ways Brave or afraid on different days. The choices we make, the traits we need Are sometimes found in what we read.

Resourcefulness

As always, the Glendower Learning Habits (6Rs) were explored across several informative assemblies and regular Glendower ‘days’ and ‘weeks’ were introduced for some topical fun. We enjoyed ‘Odd Socks Day’ for Anti-Bullying Week; Science Week; Take One Picture Week and of course, Book Week. Much fun was had by all!

Mrs Kingsmill Moore held an assembly on resourcefulness. First, we watched a clip of two people stuck on an escalator! She told us that if we ever felt like we were stuck on an escalator, we need to try and be independent and solve our own problems. It was a good way to get us thinking at the beginning of the term about work and how we can do our best.

Mrs Sweeney

Medieval Art Emilia’s mum came to talk to us about medieval times and how the ladies were not allowed to say that they were powerful and in charge, even though it was clear that some were. They were also not allowed to fight in battles and so had to lead from afar.

1B - The Cloud Spotter 1B’s assembly told the tale of a boy called The Cloudspotter who spent his days alone, making up adventures from the cloud shapes he saw in the sky. The Cloudspotter didn’t realise how lonely he was until a girl came along and changed everything! The girls in 1B told this story of friendship beautifully with such enthusiasm and confidence.
