Year Nine Year 9

T

his Year 9 group of young men have completed a very full and diverse range of activities with much gusto and enthusiasm. They are a very sociable and friendly community who have related well and participated fully in all aspects of school life.

The lads have enjoyed various Socials throughout the year. There were two Socials with Mercedes and a ten week Dancing Programme with the same school. This was followed by a well supported Santa Maria Social. Perth College and a Penrhos River Cruise followed later in the year. Mr John Montagu Head of Year 9

All homerooms had the opportunity to participate in our Galilee Retreats in September. This involved the boys going in homeroom groups for a day long reflective session at Trigg Beach and the Surf Lifesaving Club. All groups responded well to the relaxed tone of the retreats, the ocean views and the heart-felt personal talks from the homeroom teachers and Religious Education Staff. Br Rob Callen and the Campus Ministry have developed a relevant and enjoyable Retreat Programme that the lads really appreciated.

The involvement in our Music Programme and Dancing instruction from Ms Bott has been well supported by our Year 9s. They are a talented group. They have generally performed well academically and their involvement in the Sports Programme has been excellent. The Athletics success at the Inters had a lot to do with the ability of this year group. One of the most pleasing experiences I have had with the lads has been our homework sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school that started in September. The boys use one of our I.T. rooms to complete assignments or homework tasks from 3.05 pm to 4.30 pm. They seem to work well and stay on task with minimum input from myself. We average around twenty four students per session. Finally, I would like to thank our Homeroom staff for their pastoral care of our Year 9s throughout the year. Thank you also to the lads for their personable tone and their generally supportive manner. Your good heart makes for a good community. Continue to become even better “Men for Others”
