Cricket

The first game for the A cricket team was against Aquinas. We lost early wickets but then made 70 runs. Aquinas had a few small partnerships but they kept losing wickets at crucial times. We won the match by two runs. The second game was a bit one-sided. We put the pressure on the other team early and kept them to 36 runs. Our opening pair got our innings off to a good start and we won the game comfortably. Scotch batted first at their home ground and finished with an innings of 100 runs. It was going to be a hard total to chase. We didn’t start well but began to hit a few fours to improve our run-rate. It was a tough slog but we won by 10 runs. After five overs our match against Guildford seemed to be wrapped up due to some early wickets. But they fought on and made 37. When we came into bat we shared the strike and many players played well. We finished on top. We went into the match against Hale with confidence as we had not lost a game. We batted first and made a modest total with Aden Fawcett hitting a few nicely placed shots. But we were loose with our bowling and a few Hale batsmen took advantage. That game brought us back down to earth. The Lightning Carnival was exciting. We played Indoor Cricket enabling each team to play one another. We adapted to the different format quickly and ended up winning five out of the six games played. All in all we had a terrific season, everyone had fun and improved their skills. Look out Mr Tobin!

Hockey

This year Trinity primary school fielded three hockey teams. The A team was made up of mainly Year 7s and some Year 6s; they were coached by Mrs Main. The B team was made up of a combination of Year 7s and 6s; they were coached by Mr Maxfield. The C team was made up of Year 5s and were coached by Mrs Kelly. The best part of the season was playing against the other PSA schools such as Aquinas, Scotch College, Christchurch, Wesley and Guildford Grammar. All three teams enjoyed many wins, some losses and even a couple of drawn games. In the A team some of the most satisfying games played we actually lost to the other teams, but we knew that we had played to our best and that everyone on the field gave one hundred percent. We Year 7s will continue our hockey in Year 8 next year and each of the younger players will step up to take our places.

Primary House Athletics Carnival

On the 23rd September 2004 the House Athletics Carnival took place at Trinity. All the teams were pumped for a big day. Campion started off in the lead from points accumulated in the athletic trials on Thursday afternoons closely followed by Queens, Chanel and then Xavier.

First up we had the tabloid events which included shot put, high, long and triple jump. We (Queens) scored very well in the tabloid events due to great team work. Our house also got off to a great start in the running events with the Year 4s (Marc Mather and Mathew Davies) getting our first win and second for the day. Queens did well in the team events which gave us a good chance at the cup. By lunch time we thought Queens had a good chance of winning. In the rest of the events we did extremely well resulting in an 87 point win over Campion, closely followed by Chanel and Xavier.

Congratulations to Queens the winning house and Mr Chitty who organised a fantastic carnival.

This year the basketball teams from the Primary School had mixed results. We won some games, lost some games and even drew some, but throughout the whole season we never gave up and always had fun.

The ‘A’ Team’s first game was against Aquinas and they got off to a very good start. By half time they had earned a very handy lead. With courage and determination they fought back in the second half and only lost by a couple of points. Most of their games were very tough and only a few points separated the teams at the end of each match.

At the end of the term, the ‘A’ Team competed in a lightning carnival. They played six games of basketball that day. It was long and tiring, but all had a great time. Basketball is a game that requires a lot of skills, which is why it was fantastic to see each division play the best they could each week. The boys supported and encouraged each other with every game and did not let the size of their opponents inhibit their play on the court! In addition the boys displayed great sportsmanship and respect for each of the schools they played against. Special thanks to all the parents who helped coach and support the teams during the season.

This season we had a very talented and committed group of boys playing in the firsts. We started the season with a resounding win over Guildford 60 to 0 and thought the season was in the bag. We came down to earth in the next game against Hale where we went down 5 to 15. The game was well contested and hard fought. We played three games against Aquinas at their home ground and these were great games between two teams of equal ability. These were games that were enjoyable to watch and provided us with many learning opportunities. The end of season lightning carnival was a wonderful day where we defeated Hale and Wesley and went down to Guilford and Aquinas. Guildford had worked hard all season and proved to be the best team on the day. I would like to thank the boys for their courage, skill and commitment throughout the season. We have some excellent players in this team who continually give their all for the Trinity team. This I feel was the greatest achievement the boys had this season, to play like a team and trust and rely on each other. They certainly have a lot of talent and I look forward to seeing their progress in the senior years. Thank you to Mr Barr and Mr Taggart for their skill, generosity and time in helping to coach the team this season. The boys really appreciated their help and became better players under their care and guidance.

Super Soccer Stars!!

We had a very successful soccer season in the Primary School this year. All players put in a lot of effort and enjoyed playing against the other schools. Through rain, hail or shine, all teams played their best and always had fun. The excellent display of good sportsmanship to other players, coaches, and referees was noticeable at every match. At the end of the season, the ‘A’ Team competed in a lightning carnival. They played a total of seven games against teams they had challenged throughout the season and some they had not. All players contributed equally in the lightning carnival; however special mention must go to the goal keepers who only let through two goals for the entire day. Everyone was exhausted and felt great satisfaction at being the only team to get through the day undefeated. Congratulations to all the boys who played soccer and special thanks must go to all the parents that helped coach and support the teams during the season.

The Swimming Carnival was held February 12 at Beatty Park Aquatic Centre.

The events ranged from 50 metre sprints to hoop relays. It was a long hot day of intense swimming. Mr Hamer did a great job in preparing the events. Chanel came out on top with an impressive performance. It was a great day and everyone had a lot of fun. A few weeks later we sent a team to the Interschool Carnival at Challenge Stadium. Trinity did very well and we walked away feeling proud. Overall the swimming season was very enjoyable.

The Primary School’s tennis season was highlighted by some great efforts in all divisions. Adrian Petersen and Jacob Moffitt were a formidable duo in many games and their close contests indicated the high standards of the competition. Many boys constantly challenged for the higher divisions throughout the term, James Rees, Tom Prior, Nathan Scott and Declan Harwood were amongst these competitors. Apart from impressive individual successes, doubles partners James Prindiville and Sam Shaw always provided good competition, whilst Connor Brown always delivered a solid effort. The Lightning Carnival provided our team with many challenges and a very high standard was set from the first round. The team of Adrian Petersen, Jacob Moffitt, Laughlan McVeigh, James Rees, and Leo Titley performed admirably and their efforts were further enhanced by excellent levels of sportsmanship.
