Year 7

Term One

We read three novels by Deborah Ellis about the life of a young girl named Parvana who lived in war-torn Afghanistan. Parvana’s life was very different to ours. These stories taught us that foreign aid money and food

Mr Tony Maxfield Year 7 Blue supplies are very important to many people in our world. One of our science class projects was to construct a solar oven. It was very challenging. When all of our ovens were finished we had the first ever “7 Blue Bake–Off.” Mr Maxfield was quite amazed that we cooked; we ate and no one died of food poisoning! Another highlight of Term One was the Mothers’ Day Mass. All the mothers, grandmothers and even some dads enjoyed this special occasion.

Term Two

A life changing event for us in Term Two was receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Prior to Confirmation, we had our class retreat, at Camp Kelly, Dwellingup. We learned much about our classmates, the Holy Spirit and ourselves. Father Michael joined us and said Mass. This mass was simple but special because we did it. We all came back a little wiser and richer in spirit. On a sad note, at the end of Term Two, Mr Hamer our sport teacher and friend departed Trinity College to move to Shanghai to teach. During the July school holidays, forty-seven Year 7 boys, four staff and a group of parents went on a tour of Sydney and Canberra. We saw the wonderful sights of Sydney and Canberra and had an excellent day at the Cooma snowfields. We did not want to leave the snow.

Term Three

One major change in Term Three was that we had a new student teacher, Mr Sibson. He started by helping out Mr Maxfield in the room and then took over teaching us Maths, Society and Environment, Spelling and Language. Mr Sibson was a cool person; we miss his jokes, quizzes and debates. Another great event we attended was the Winter Sport Lighting Carnival at Floreat. It was a rainy, cold day but that didn’t stop us from having a blast. For Mr Maxfield’s science challenge, we created our own mousetrap cars, using research on the internet. When finished, we will trial them for speed and distance.

In Science Week, we had a Science Fair Display. The “World Yo-yo Champion”, a funny person from Boston, USA, visited and taught us about the “Science of Spin” or Gyroscopic Stability. In Language and Society and Environment, we learnt about the Olympics and Bali. Mr Sibson helped us make our own Balinese masks. We acted out a story with the masks. It was great fun.

Term Four

The Science challenge for Term Four is to make a Concert Night percussion instrument for our performance. All that is left is our Farewell to the Junior School Mass.

Term One

We met our new teacher Mr Chitty. The House Swimming Carnival was a great day with Chanel winning by a huge margin. Jakeb Norman, from our class, was Champion Boy. Our Interschool Swimming Carnival was also a good day; we finished fourth out of the seven schools.

During the term we began our Peer Mentor Programme. This programme involved each of us receiving a student, from Year 4 Blue. We helped them settle into their new school. We also took part in activities such as a treasure hunt and a school tour.

Our religious highlights for the term included Ash Wednesday Mass as well as the Initiation Mass for our new principal Mr Bothe. We also took part in the Easter Paraliturgy. First term was a great term but a very busy one.

Term Two

During the second week of Term Two we had a wonderful Mass at the Cathedral. The Mass was very enjoyable and was a great way to begin the term.

As part of our Confirmation preparation we learnt about Saints and did a project on them. We also went on our Confirmation Retreat where we looked more closely at the meaning of Confirmation. We travelled to the retreat at Dwellingup and we stayed there for two nights. The special night of the Sacrament of Confirmation arrived and we asked our Sponsors to join us for the celebration.

Alex Barbas & Marc Bucolo

Term Three

At this year’s Performing Arts Festival we performed our item called the “Pirate Dance” Ms Bott prepared us very well. We took part in the Winter Lightning Carnival which was a great day. We all performed well and gave Trinity a good name. Our first project for the term was to design and create a Trinity class mascot. It was very fun and enjoyable. Our next project was to build a Bali house. Mr Bell was very impressed with all of our efforts. During Science we built water clocks, sun dials, candle clocks and sand timers. In week five we had our House Cross-Country Carnival. We also had Book Week during the term. The theme for this year was “Doorways”. As usual Mrs Wyatt gave us a fun activity which was to make a Truck Dog or a Doorway. The Father’s Day Breakfast was a huge success and there were lots of great prizes given away. Third term was a great term.
