Grounds and Maintenance

This year, as usual, has been very busy for the maintenance and grounds team.

I would like to thank all my staff for their hard work and dedication to the safe and efficient running of the college buildings and grounds. We are currently undergoing major renovations at the Waterford Playing Fields which will include removing the existing car park, relocation of the tennis courts to the northern boundary and the construction of 2 new turf wickets. This is part of a 2 – 3 year project which will eventually see the entire complex automatically reticulated. We have recently employed a new grounds person at Waterford and I would like to welcome Miss Renee Stewart to the team and hope she has a long and prosperous stay with the college. Mr. Graham Warne, Waterford Head Groundsman, took the opportunity this winter to enjoy his long service leave, Graham spent many weeks touring through the United States of America and, as he intends to work for Trinity until aged 104, he will have at least another five long service leaves to look forward to. At the East Perth Campus, our Head Groundsman, Mr. Ross Beatson continues to impress everyone with the brilliant condition that he manages to maintain on the ovals and grounds. Ross has been one of the driving forces behind the Waterford redevelopment and is a key member of the college’s building and grounds committee. Ross is ably assisted by Mr. James Scott. James has finally agreed to commence full time employment with the college after working on a casual basis for the last few years, I am sure his enthusiasm and versatility will bring many rewards to the college. I have no doubt all students and parents are aware of the gentle giant Mr. Max Stone, (cleaner, security guard , bus driver etc ) Max is expanding his current role within the college campus and has agreed to take on the extra duties involved in assisting the grounds team with the garden beds and rolling the turf wickets.

It has also been a very busy year for the forgotten people in the maintenance department, the two men who work tirelessly behind the scenes play a major part in making sure the day to day running of the school is maintained in the best possible condition. Lawrie Dodd, our carpenter extraordinaire, has overcome major knee surgery earlier in the year after an unfortunate motocross accident and has produced some of his finest work for the recent Trinity Family Fair. Lawrie helped the Fair committee raise several thousand dollars by boxing and framing all the jumpers on offer at the silent auction. Well done Lawrie and keep up the great work! My sincere thanks must also go out to Mr. Graeme Hunter who has been working for the college for more than 23 years. Those of you who know Graeme will be aware of his Technophobia and aversion to change, so you will be surprised to hear that he has recently embraced computer technology and is becoming more and more familiar with sending and receiving emails and responding to maintenance requests sent via them. Lastly I would like to thank a former employee, now contractor of the college, Mr. Gary Stilwell. Gary is the man who maintains the gymnasium and the yards. He is also responsible for maintaining and cleaning the new swimming pool. This is an incredible effort considering the pool must be checked and tested twice daily 365 days a year. After several early problems the pool is proving to be a major asset to the college community and I am sure that under Gary’s care it will be a shinning centre piece for many years to come.
