Parent Council

The Parent Council, now in its eleventh year, consists of a group of parents who represent the school community and who meet on a regular basis with the school Principal and the Head of Primary. Our objectives are to: • Assist with community building within the College • Provide feedback to the administrative team • Organise social activities • Assist with parent education • Organise Fete and fundraising activities. Each year our first task is to host the Parent Council Sundowner, held in Centenary Park. It is an evening designed for parents, especially those new to the school, to meet with other members of the community. For many this was the first opportunity to meet with our new Principal, Peter Bothe. This year the school made available the use of its telescope and many parents and staff were able to view Mars, which was at its full splendour for the evening. School Open Day was the next event on the Parent Council calendar and as usual, the respective students gave visitors guided tours of both the Senior and Junior Schools.

The Parent Council was more involved in organizing the Parent Ball this year, making use of the wonderful decorations provided for the Year 12 Ball. This has proved to be an extremely popular event and if you would like to go next year, it is advisable to get in early. Ian Lillico’s information evening this year was in a different format, but still very eye opening. We are planning future talks for 2005 from different speakers, possibly one in each of the four terms. The Parent Council has eighteen members, which is slightly more than previous years. I would like to thank all members for their input at meetings and for their help at the various functions throughout the year. I have come to the end of my term on the Council. Special thanks go to the other retiring members Robyn Jennison, Alan Moody and Rick Sneeuwjagt

Opportunity Shop –Retirement of Mrs Margaret Atherton

Margaret joined the College formally in 1995 to manage the Opportunity Shop, but her involvement with the shop actually spans some 30 years. During the past ten years Margaret, along with current assistant Lorraine English and many former assistants, have helped a number of parents afford a uniform for their son. With the money raised from sales of second-hand uniforms, Margaret has been able to direct monies into minor capital projects such as the purchase of rowing sculls in 1996, blankets for the swimming pool, renovations at the Waterford Playing Fields and the Centenary Fence project. The College community has much to be grateful for. Thank you Margaret and Lorraine.
