Rugby
The season of 2004 for the First VX will be remembered more for individual flair and achievement rather than conspicuous team performances, although there were occasions when only the corporate efforts of fifteen players got the team out of trouble.
The team was ably led by Gareth Jones who was the most polished player in the back line and who, together with his lieutenant and vice-captain, Phil Oddie, Paul Badham, Michael Botes and Will Brock continued on to win selection for the State U18 Open Schoolboys. Stuart Jenkins and Joe Nicoll, both in their first year of rugby, were hugely prominent in the pack as indeed were David Lush and Dane Lazarus.
The PSA rugby competition was as strong as ever. Outstanding sportsmanship by all and a will to succeed characterised the team and their future looks good in the coming years. Co-captains Alex Repsevicius and Jack Edwards lead by example.
Will Brock’s Success
Will is only the second boy, ever, from WA to be selected for the Open Schoolboy team, the first being Daniel Wiseman in 2003. That both boys are from Trinity makes the College very proud of their success indeed. Will has gone on to play against Samoa, New Zealand and Ireland. He is also representing Australia in the Schoolboy 7-a-side competition in the Youth Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, in December 2004, and is certain to compete in the U19 World Cup for Australia next year. In addition, he has already had offers from the Reds and Brumbies to play in the Super 12 tournament but hopes that Perth will be the home of the latest team to be included so that he can join them instead.
