Student Roll Call

Indonesian

Unfortunately, due to small student numbers undertaking Bahasa Indonesia, the decision has been made to phase the language out at the College. The Year 12 students undertaking TEE Indonesian next year will be the last students to participate in the Indonesian language program. Despite the difficulties of a combined Year 11 and 12 Indonesian class this year, the students demonstrated a high degree of flexibility and patience, as we alternated between the different topics and grammatical constructions for each year level. The focus for both year groups was to develop their formal writing skills, comprehension skills and conversational fluency. The Year 11 and 12 class enjoyed an informal Indonesian lunch in class, courtesy of ‘The Sparrow Restaurant’, as a fitting conclusion to the year.

The focus for the Year 8 Indonesian students was on developing basic language skills which enabled them to converse and write about themselves, their families and their interests. Students also broadened their cultural understanding of Indonesia with respect to appropriate behaviour and dress, school life, pasttimes and traditional practices. On a lighter note, students played Indonesian games such as congkak (a board game) and lompat tali (jump rope), and sampled Indonesian snacks such as ketan hitam (blackMrs Anna McCloy Indonesian rice) and kerupuk (crackers). In Term Four, the Year 8 students enjoyed some traditional Indonesian dishes at a local restaurant. These included: nasi goreng, mi goreng, rendang and sate ayam. The food was not only delicious but the visit afforded students the opportunity to put their language skills into practice when ordering their meal.

Italian

Anumber of students had the opportunity to travel to Italy with All Saints College, Newman College with Mrs Maria Outram and with W.A.A.T.I organised by Mrs Maria Christou. The traditional Year 9 lunch at Caffe Amaretto was a great success; thanks go to Mr and Mrs Vince Lipari who were great hosts. Thanks also to Val Ciancotti who organised the Year 8 visit to the Tuscany club where the students learned to play bocce and briscola. They also enjoyed some beautiful Italian cuisine. I would also like to thank Sandra Vallini for helping out with the oral exams. This year Mrs Vallini has introduced Italian to the Junior School for the first time. I look forward to another great year in 2005.

the heart of Florence. We also visited neighbouring towns and cities that included Pisa, Lucca and Siena. We stayed in Venice for three days. From there we travelled south, past Florence to the enormous capital city, Rome. We managed to see the famous colosseum, St Peter’s Square and the Trevi Fountain. The trip was both exciting and very enjoyable while still being a great learning experience. We were able to live life in Italy to the full extent. It was an adventure Mr Jean-Marc Rousset Italian we will never forget.

Information technology has a great role to play in the Italian syllabus. Students of all year levels use this great resource to enhance their cultural awareness and to be up to date with the latest happenings in the peninsula. This year the Year 9 students have “travelled” the regions of Italy vicariously by using the freeways – working out toll gate fees, distances and locating motels. The weather is also important when planning a trip. Once more, the students studied the climate on the computer to work out the best season to travel Stile Italiano.

GITA ITALIANA 2004 (Italian Tour 2004)

In April, three Trinity students and one Trinity old boy joined the Italian class from All Saints College in an educational tour of Italy, organised by Mrs Marlissa Gangemi. The tour lasted a month, we managed to visit and explore the many wonderful and famous places in Italy. While in Florence, we stayed with host families and were able to experience Italian culture. We attended the Dante Alighieri language school in

BUON APPETITO !!!!!!!!!!!!

The Year 9 lunch at Caffe Amaretto was a tremendous success. The students were able to sample the traditional Italian “cuchina” and put into practice their linguistic skills. Mr and Mrs Vince Lipari were our hosts and they made us feel very welcome. The waitresses made sure that the students ordered in Italian and were very nice to us. Grazie tante !!!!! Thank you also to Mr Webb for accompanying us.
