Year 5

2004 in 5 Blue has been an exciting and fun filled adventure. We have had many excursions and lots of fun science experiments. In Term One we had a wonderful camp at Waroona where we participated in activities like: abseiling, flying Fox, the climbing wall, canoeing, screen printing and the Incentive Course. The camp was a great opportunity to make new friends and try new things. The best part was having our dads come and try all the new things with us. Ms Marwick, Ms Coleman and Mr Hamer worked hard to give us the best camp ever. I am sure we will remember it as one of the best we ever went on. In Term Two we had a visiting teacher, Ms Herbert, and she was really nice. This term we also began our winter sports fixtures and that was really different from Year 4. We competed against all the other boys’ schools and we won many of our matches. In Term Three lots of boys participated in the performing arts festival with dance, choral and musical instruments. We visited the JSSHA art exhibition at the Art Gallery to take part in a “theatre sports” workshop. It was loads of

fun. We studied Electricity in science and made circuits. We also finished off the winter sports fixtures and competed in the winter lightning carnival. After that we started athletics. The inter house sports carnival was really exciting. Many people were selected to represent the school at the inter school carnival. We had our class mass, based upon the theme of the Universe story and it was beautiful. Ms Lissa Coleman In Term Four, we are organising something really special

Year 5 Blue for Speech night. It will be our best ever. Participating in sports options every week has been really enjoyable too. It sure has been lots of fun with Ms Coleman. And boy, did we read lots of books!!!!!!

Here is a poem by Brian Cheung!

In Term One we had lots of fun though we worked hard. Ms Marwick did many exciting things with us, as we learnt all about Australia. We did a project on Australia’s flora and fauna and studied the states and their capitals. During first term, we went on camp to Dwellingup. On the bus ride down to the Forest Edge Campsite, everyone was so excited the bus was full of laughter and chatter. We arrived to find a large shed was to be our home for the next few days. The groups were assigned different activities for the next three days, such as abseiling, canoeing, raft building, wall climbing, the Flying Fox and screen printing our team’s T-shirt. Each activity was lots of fun but nothing was to compare to the Red Faces Talent competition and the Quiz night. My team, the Blue team, won the quiz and Mikey Quinlan and myself came second with our ‘Comedy Cooking’ to James Pennefather and Louis Iustini’s ‘Monty Python’.

In Term Two we studied “Sport, Leisure and the Human Body”. We had a practice teacher called Miss Phuong Nguyen. One day, Miss Nguyen brought in her brother who was a Sports Scientist. He talked to us about the muscles and the bones. Miss Nguyen also took us on an

excursion to Scitech. As part of our theme, we did a Player Profile on an Aboriginal Sportsperson during NAIDOC week. Mr John Jacky, an Aboriginal liaison officer at Trinity, came to talk to us about his early life. During Term Two we began our winter sports season and Mrs Debra Laird took us for Drama and Theatre Sports. We also began to learn to knit and crochet. We knitted blankets with the help of Mrs Ding, Mrs Royer, Mrs Hopkins and many grandmas and friends who donated ‘squares’ and wool. We attended the ‘Knit-in’ at the ABCMs Rosanne Marwick Year 5 Green studios and we were on the radio and the T.V news.

In Term Three we studied the Olympics. During the term we did three projects which included studying Greece, an Olympic athlete, Our Australian Olympic Hall of Fame and the Olympics and the Environment. Ms Marwick ran a Mini-Olympics competition in the classroom and each team or country could win medals. At the end of the term, Japan won Gold, Macedonia won Silver and the Czech Republic won Bronze. We performed our assembly item about the Olympics. It was very funny with Greek dancing, which my mum taught us to do and impersonations of Roy and H.G from the ‘Dream’. We handed out Greek biscuits, which we had made, to the teachers and parents. Also during this term, we visited the Art Gallery and performed Theatre Sports in front of the paintings.
