BIG (Boys In Groove)
Boys In Groove had a great year learning many new and interesting forms of dance.
We started each session following Ms Bott’s choreography, dancing to a variety of music. We would then go into our own groups and put sequences of movements together based on different dance elements. In the second term we began doing special lifts that looked really cool. Later we had a woman from Circus Bizircus come to teach us new forms of acro-balancing. We then began choreographing our dance for the Catholic Performing Arts Festival and included some of this acro-balancing. We called our dance High Rise. It featured B.I.G. as civilians rebuilding their city. It was a story of hope and involved a large scaffold constructed on stage by the Year Sevens. This was risky! Sixteen members of B.I.G. participated in the Christian Dance section of the festival. We were all very happy to receive an Honourable Mention for our dance, Men of the Gospel. Our performance at Burswood finally arrived on the 19th August. We were all very nervous to perform in front of so many people. Ms Bott said we danced brilliantly, and the boys constructing the scaffold did so with expertise and in record time. Our dance was spectacular, heightened by the lighting and smoke effects. We were very happy with our efforts. We received an Honourable Mention and the Presentation Sister’s Award for most outstanding creative dance (primary). For the third year in a row, B.I.G. received the shield! We were all extremely happy that we had won, but most of all we had a lot of fun.
Now in Term Four we are in groups, choreographing our own dances to our own selection of music. We will be performing our dances to our parents and friends at the B.I.G. Choreographic Afternoon this term. Boys In Groove has had heaps of fun this year and huge thanks must go to Ms Bott.
