Chaplain Pastoral

God, Jesus and the Relay Race G

od spent a fair bit of time getting people to write things on his behalf. We call this the Old Testament. He sent many men and women to reinforce the message but they often had mixed both personal and community success. God knew a thing or two. He invented the saying ‘actions speak louder than words.’ That is why he sent his Son Jesus, the body language of God. Jesus was so impressive a character that people listened to him, talked about him and finally wrote about him. God the Father wanted to make sure that after going to all the trouble of the word made flesh, that people would not reduce the following of Jesus to mere glib words. He wanted people to live the Jesus model, inspired by his teaching and in the context of the world in which they live. To me this is one of the prime reasons for a Christian school. All teachers and staff have the obligation of passing on to the pupils a credible and realistic Christ-like life style. Then the pupils take on this challenge and the process continues. The baton passes from God the Father to Jesus and then on to all who have been struck by the sheer integrity and fascination of the Christ. At the end of each year the baton changing takes place. Please God, it is safe in the hands of staff and pupils. Father Mike McMahon SAC Chaplain
