Mathematics Academic
T
his year has been both busy and productive in the Mathematics Department. This is usually the norm in this department, however we do have several students to boast about who produced excellent mathematics work amongst their hectic lives at Trinity. The 2003 TEE results Mr Rom Cirillo were outstanding with great Head of Mathematics scores from Michael Sims, David Allen and Jon Karolczak in both Calculus and Applicable Mathematics. In Term Three, 2004, we had a record number of students sitting for the Australian Mathematics Competition, and we had some fantastic results.

Congratulations to all the boys mentioned above especially Sean Chia, Xuan Yu Ji, and Louis Westbrook who, with scores of 125, 126 and 106 were the top ranked students in Australia. We also had some brilliant work done by students in the Mathematics Talent Quest. Joe Samineeni and Nic Barbas got first prize for their entry on national flags, while Josh Hicks and Ryan Vincec were awarded second place for their entry on drawing curves with straight lines, Binuk Kodituwakku and Anthony Hermawan were highly commended for their work. We welcomed four new staff to the Mathematics Department during the year, Mr Danny Quartermaine, Miss Janie Gordon, Mr Geoff Jamieson and Miss Janelle Pagoda. Mrs Jane Kauhanen and Mrs Amanda Hird left on maternity leave and Mr Dean Gillies expanded his teaching skills in schools in England. Mark Duffy Head of Mathematics Acting
