Well-being Equals Better Safety The third year of Bore’s well-being program is well under way. BoreFit is a friendly fitness competition between all of the ships in Bore’s fleet as well as the shipping company’s office and Repair Team.

oreFit is a fun team-based competition which has the double benefit of building community spirit onboard and encouraging everybody to get some exercise. The most important aim is to get as many seafarers as possible to participate, and on some ships up to 80 percent of the crew is involved. – The type of physical activity is up to the participants, and every exercise a par-

ticipant performs in their free time counts towards their team’s result. This could be just a walk on deck in the fresh air, for example. We want to encourage seafarers to invest in their own well-being, Sonja Koivisto of Bore Ltd’s HR department explains. She coordinates the competition and collects the results from each vessel and team on a monthly basis. At the start of the campaign Bore gave all crew members

personal activity trackers, which make it easy to track and record exercise data. Any workouts done on holiday also count towards the team’s results. The shipping company’s seafarers are also taking part in the ForMare wellness programme. They have achieved good results, and it has been especially important to them that the company has taken a positive stance toward the programme. As a result, they have experienced better
