Annual: Trinity 2014

Year 10 This year, the Year 10 cohort has focussed on leadership and leading by example. Ms Susie Edwards Head of Year 10 They have coped well with the transition into the Senior School, understanding the academic rigour expected in senior courses and the expectations of senior sport. Through their experiences, I am sure that they are now ready to tackle the coming year. The pastoral care program has included an array of guest speakers and experiences for the boys to participate in. The students have learnt about drug awareness from Ms Jade Lewis and risk assessment by Mr Jonathan Beninca, a young man who has become a double amputee because of his risky behaviours as a teenager. Elevate Education has provided young presenters to educate the students to improve their study skills and organisational skills whilst a member of the Australian Federal Police visited to demonstrate the safe use of technology. These programs continue to support the boys to develop the skills needed to become resilient and knowledgeable young men of the future. The Year 10 cohort had an amazing experience on the Emmaus retreat. They have also been impressive with their willingness to volunteer for many service opportunities.

The students have been involved in such experiences as being a roadie on the Quest retreat, attending the winter sleepout, being a member of Edmund Rice Outreach and the Red Cross soup patrol. A group of students has also been lucky enough to be chosen to attend the India Pilgrimage in December 2015. The students’ willingness to become involved and volunteer for these many opportunities is a trait which we hope will continue to grow and develop as they move into their final years at the College. Socially, there have been two socials with Mercedes College this year. A new carnival-themed afternoon was launched in Centenary Park in Term 1 with carnival rides and food for the Year 10 cohort. The famous people and characters themed social was held in Gibney Hall. All students enjoyed dressing up with a huge array of costumes with some fantastic group costumes, including Batman and three of his rivals, the teenage mutant ninja turtles and an entire cricket team! Also, some boys were also lucky enough to attend the Iona river cruise in Term 4. The personal development and wellbeing program has had an overhaul this year to include a life skills program led by Mr Tony Webb, Mr Bill Cooper and Mr Adam Gage. This program has involved the boys learning to be a highly skilled gentleman in today’s society. Some of the skills they learnt included sewing buttons onto shirts, ironing, tying knots, using drills, basic servicing of cars, changing tyres, their digital footprint, electronic profiling for employment
