Year 11
In 2014, a significant emphasis was placed on encouraging Year 11 students to seek out opportunities where they could live out the mantra of being a Man for Others.
Mr Brendan Chapman Head of Year 11
Students were consistently prompted to make contributions to the service domain of our Faith Pillar, seeking out opportunities such as Edmund Rice Outreach, soup patrol, street soccer at Wellington Square and the Winter Sleep Out. The list goes on. Mason Anderson (11.4), Sheldon Dias (11.7), Liam Fernandes (11.3), Rory Kendell (11.7) and Jesse Vivante (11.5) were very active throughout the Trinity College community, raising funds and awareness for the World’s Greatest Shave. Collectively the boys raised approximately $5,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation, whilst Spencer Staltari (11.5) raised approximately $3,000, taking up the challenge of the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Ably supported by Mr Craig Adams, the Year 11 Student Council drove various initiatives over the course of the year to raise awareness and funds for LifeLink. The Student Council, with the support of the College community, raised approximately $4,000 for the Archbishop’s Charity, established by the Archdiocese of Perth in 1994, to provide for the ongoing financial and promotional support of agencies established or assisted by the Church. To complement the service contributions of our Year 11s, the students were significantly involved in the College’s Campus Ministry work. Over 60 Year 11s were chosen to be peer ministers for the Year 8 Quest retreat. These students gave up many Sunday afternoons and the Labour Day long weekend to foster the Trinity Spirit amongst the College community, as well as continue their own faith journey whilst forging stronger links with the Year 8 students and encouraging these students to live out a life inspired by Jesus Christ. Twelve students were selected to be a part of the biannual Kimberley immersion. These students were found to be outstanding ambassadors for the College, working with remote Aboriginal communities in the state’s north-west.

The willingness of so many of our students to openly witness their faith and values and display solidarity towards the marginalised members of our community leaves me in awe, and so very proud of our young men.
A highlight for many Year 11 students was being a part of the drama performance, 12 Angry Men. These students worked tirelessly to prepare and deliver two evening performances that were of the highest standard. There have been many years since the last time the College put on a drama production and the community are very proud of these boys in what we hope will now become an annual highlight on the College calendar. The Year 11 Outdoor Education trip to the Dampier Archipelago continues to be one of the most unique and rewarding experiences for our students. Approximately 40 students were given the opportunity to learn new skills and spend five days sailing in this delicate environment, as well as forging memories that will last for a lifetime.
The Year 11 Encounter retreat proved to be a valuable and relaxing part of the students’ faith formation. They enjoyed being away from their study routines to reflect upon their time since arriving at the College, as well as their place in a larger society and the direction they will take as their time at Trinity nears an end. The journey of boy-to-manhood is given significant emphasis as the students are challenged to view their worldly experience through a more mature and compassionate lens.
The Year 11 river cruise with Mercedes College students again proved to be a highlight. Dressed to impress, the students embarked from Barrack Street Jetty for what was an evening of dancing and fun. Being the highlight of the Year 11 social calendar, the students really enjoyed mixing with the Mercedes girls and meeting up with friends.
I thank the Year 11 pastoral care group teachers, Mr Craig Adams (11.1) and Mr Ben Russell (11.1), Mr David Hankin and Mr Rod Rainer (11.2), Mr Peter Oliver (11.3), Miss Amanda Marocchi (11.4), Mr Joseph Tamigi and Mrs Lynn Jacobs (11.5), Mr Jacob Marai (11.6) and Mr Ken O’Neil (11.7). The commitment to challenge and care for our students has been an integral element to the continued formation of these students as a year group.
Upon reflection, I am very proud of the way the Year 11s have embraced the mantle of leadership at the College. The students always look for ways in which they can live out the College mantra of being a Man for Others, and in doing so, inspire our younger students to do the same. I am exceptionally proud of each and every one of them and I wish them all the very best next year as Year 12 students.
